GAME YEAR: WINTER 997

The Wheel of Time continues to turn, and Ages come and pass over and over, leaving too many memories that become legend. Legend fades to myth, and even myth is long forgotten when the Age that gave it birth comes again. In one Age, called the Third Age by some, an Age yet to come, an Age long past, a wind rose in the Mountains of Mist. The wind was not the beginning. There are neither beginnings nor endings to the turning of the Wheel of Time. But it was a beginning.

The wind blew down the rugged slopes of the Mountains of Mist, thick with the smell of winter though Spring was long overdue. It flowed across the river Taren and deep into the Caralain grass.

It whipped the flags of seven small armed encampments as the leaders of the new Seven Confederations walked to the Council tent.

Davram Bashere, High Seat of House Bashere, Lord of Bashere, Tyr and Sidona, Guardian of the Blightborder, Defender of the Heartland, and Marshal-General to Queen Tenobia of Saldaea and Lord Agelmar of House Jagad of Fal Dara represent the Unified Borderlands. Siuan Sanche, Watcher of the Seals, Flame of Tar Valon, The Amyrlin Seat with the Warders Coulin Gaidin and Hammar Gaidin represent the Eastland Confederation, Tar Valon taking command of the chaos in Cairhien. Morgase Trakand, by the Grace of the Light, Queen of Andor, Defender of the Realm, Protector of the People, High Seat of House Trakand and Gareth Bryne, Captain-General of the Queen's Guard represent the Midlands, mighty Andor and recently conquered Murandy. King Mattin Stepaneos den Balgar, having finally crushed his southern rivals in Tear commands all the Southlands, while Pedron Niall, Lord Captain Commander of the Children of the Light controls Amadacia, Ghealdan and Altara. Lord Rodel Ituralde, the Wolf, has unified Arad Domon and Tarabon under his great baner. Finally, Nesta din Reas Two Moons, Malin din Toral Breaking Wave, Mistress of the Ships to the Atha'an Miere and her Master of the Blades Baroc with their multi-tiered parasols fluttering, represent all the naval power of the Sea Folk.

All present know the stakes. The Dark One is breaking free. The never-ending winter is proof for anyone who cares to look. All agree that mankind must be united to face the Last Battle. What cannot be agreed upon is who should command the great host. With angry shouts and threats of violence, the Compact of the Seven Confederations is broken before it can even form. As the tent empties a shadow resolves itself into a too-tall Myrddraal holding two spears, one short, the other tasseled. He Laughs as the spears blacken and turn to ash. This time it will be too easy Shadar Haran thinks as he fades back into the shadows.

Let the Lord of Chaos Rule!

Feel free to assume the persona of one of the suggested leaders from your nation in all press and negotiations. (Or another appropriate character, no Rand Mat and Perrin are not appropriate) Please read my house rules and ask questions about rules or the map sooner rather then later. To reiterate a few points though:

1. Please CC me on all communications. This is something several Variant creators have mentioned as being a big help finding problems with the map and rules.

2. All suggestions will be held for future modifications. Unless the map proves unplayable, I plan to play this through with the rules as stated.

3. I will be lenient on abbreviations, but please see the master list on the appendix of my house rules, or in RP if you use RP.

4. For RP users, I ā€˜planā€™ to send an RP file with the final winter Adj. each year. To read this file, please note that you need the most recent version of RP

Our DC game number is DC134. Please remember to subscribe to our game list.

Spring orders for the year 998AB will be due Friday November 23rd.

Walk in the Light.

Please let me know if you have issues with the army/fleet icons. If they are too confusing/distracting I can revert them to the standard Icons for the maps.
