DC152 (wb0817) - Fall 1901

Hi folks,

Interesting moves all around as the board begins to take shape. Everyone gains at least one build from the first year - as per tourney rules the deadline for Winter 1901 adjustments will be set for Friday, January 11th (11:59 PM GMT).

A note about the Austrian fleet order. I adjudicated this order as valid after consultation with the Tournament Directors. The question was whether the omission of the province that the fleet was in rendered the move order invalid.

Going back to the basic diplomacy rule-book, it says that "a poorly written order that has only one meaning must be accepted." As Austria has only one fleet, and can only be ordering for one fleet, this order only has one meaning and is valid. Note that if Austria had had MORE than one fleet, then this would have been an ambiguous order and ruled invalid. (The diplomacy rules can be found at < http://www.wizards.com/avalonhill/rules/diplomacy.pdf> and the page that the quotation may be found on is page 4.)

I, of course, welcome all your opinions on this matter and any of the rest of the adjudication. My ruling on the validity of the Austrian fleet order, however, is final.

Cheers!

Trout
