Grüß Gott!
Who was left standing in our first year game of "musical chairs"? The unfortunate Tsar. Spring had already proven inauspicious for our Romanov, yet this fall he not only failed again in taking the Crimean Khanate, but had to see that ripe plub being picked by the Poles (courtesy of the Sublime Porte). As a result, Mother Russia's units remained in place for the entirety of the year.
Cromwell's troops were barely more active, contenting themselves with the pacification of Scotland and showing little inclination in braving the open sea. On the other side of the North Sea, the great powers have rapidly staked out their spheres of interest in the Holy Roman Empire. Much to the young Louis's satisfaction, France annexed all territories within her "natural frontiers", while lending support to the Spaniards in both north and south of the Alps.
Now, it is time for me to announce a wee competition for both players and observers of this game. The quest for the über-prestigious Johann Keppler Award! He who proves most clairvoyant (as the famous 17th century scientist and astrologer) shall receive first pick among all powers in my next 1648 game - not to mention eternal bragging rights. :)
To that end, you may predict each winter season which power shall end the game with the most SCs and which one shall be the next to exit (or in the event of none doing so in future, which shall have the least SCs at game-end). For every correct vote each winter, you shall receive one point. Votes submitted in one winter shall be considered in effect until one submits a new set of predictions. In case multiple powers fulfill the same criterion, the past year's SC tallies will serve as tiebreakers between them.
Participation in this wee contest is entirely voluntary. Next to being - at least to my mind - a rather fun thing on the side, it also has the practical purpose of amounting to a survey of how people see the game going, which ought to prove quite insightful.
Now, there's no trial adjucation in winter-time, so simply get me your adjustments (and Keppler Award predictions, if you choose so) by no later than Friday 30 October, 6 PM CET. Unless any player explicitly wishes me to do otherwise, I may publish the Winter Adjustments prior to the deadline should I have a full set of orders.
Liebe Grüsse,
Charles
