A thank you to everybody for your patience. For clarification and future reference: deadlines are at 10:00 a.m. CST (15:00 GMT). That's mid-morning in Iowa.
Having said that... I got called away for sick-child duty at midday and haven't been online almost all day (don't worry, the offspring is doing just fine).
In the Spring, I wrote:
"The Fall *must* be more exciting than this. Inexorably, the forecast is for more war.
There seems to be a storm brewing in the West. Paz Eterna supports Mos Eisley into Burgundy. Immediately, the Rosstopian outposts in Belgium and Tunis seem isolated. It is an exposed position, to say the least. Seek shelter and pray to Saint Ardnassac!
Expect bouts of negotiation to break out in Constantinople and Venice, with an absolute deluge of press in the center of the map.
And crops for Bushwood look promising, with Serbia and Vienna both free for the taking."
So... how did my forecast play out? It was just a forecast, subject to error.
The Rosstopian position in Belgium did prove to be isolated, which is why Boba Fett and a couple of Jawas have been seen wandering the streets of Brussels. It was a good year for Mos Eisley on the SC front.
However, the Rosstopian position in Tunis was... it was the site of an entertaining episode of "The Three Stooges". The Lemurians and Rosstopians both offered supports in a clockwise direction, while Paz Eterna merely supported itself into the Mid-Atlantic Ocean.
Between Belgium and Tunis, I'd say Saint Ardnassac was about 50-50 on the prayers.
"Bouts of negotiation"? Venice was claimed by the ferocious Lemurs of Rome, but Constantinople was at loggerheads.
A 'deluge' of press in the center of the map? I'll never know, but if the press did come a-rainin' down, it left little discernible impact on the region. Kiel and Munich both held, meaning that there was little of the nasty brutality I had forecasted in Germany.
Finally, Bushwood did indeed harvest Serbia and Vienna.
All in all, my predictions fared comparably to tossing a coin.
It turns out that precisely half of the neutral centers have sued for the protection of larger, better armed nations who share geographical and ideological similarities. As expected, Edinburgh joins Mos Eisley. Serbia and Vienna enter the Bushwood fold. Ankara enters Lotfizadeh. And Venice provides a home for Lemurs.
Constantinople is the scene of Rhovanion / Zadonian conflict. The rest (Denmark, Greece, London, and Warsaw) survive the first year unmolested.
In addition to the above, FourGotten reclaims St. Petersburg, which leads us to our one retreat due sometime on Wednesday (technically, within 24 hours of this adjudication):
The Rhovanion army in St. Petersburg may retreat to Finland, Livonia, Moscow, or off the board.
Then, due on Thursday (let's target the usual 10:00 a.m. CST), we have adjustments. Paz Eterna, Rhovanion, and Lotfizadeh can sit this one out, but everybody else owes us a unit or two:
