PREV  Fall 1649 Adjudication:  NEXT

Hi guys,

war has broken out in the Mediterranean. The Spanish attempted a naval descent on Constantinople, but were repulsed. Nonetheless, Madrid has had a good year considering Spain's gains in North Africa and along the Rhine. As for Turkey, she may also be assaulted by the other branch of the Habsburg family. But the Ottomans have at least obtained one build.

The other overt conflict would be between Poland and Sweden. For the Swedish Vasas have denied their Polish cousins the one gain they were gunning for. Reminds me of dc509. In that game, Poland had performed no better in the opening year. But finished the game with a very respectable 9 SCs.

The Russian bear has had a roaring start. Everything worked out well for the Tsar. Turkestan was conquered and Novgorod wasn't burnt down by foreign invaders. So Moscow gets to double her forces.

Gaining two SCs might be considered the norm. Austria, Denmark, France, Spain and Sweden met this benchmark. In the centre, Austria and France staked out their spheres of influence. The strategically important space of Swabia fell to the Habsburgs, while the Bourbons pushed further into Tuscany. As a result, the Savoyards live to see another day.

The Danish-Norwegian fleet made an interesting sortie into the Norwegian Sea. Where will it head next? Stay posted. Similarly, the English presence in the German Sea affords Cromwell & Co numerous possibilities.

There are no pending retreats, but plenty of adjustments. These are due on Thursday.

Happy dipping!

Charles

AUSTRIAN PRESS: The Imperial Palace was in an uproar this week as His Highness, suddenly and without prior warning, completely altered the marching orders to his armies. Previously slated to defend the Austrian homeland and seek the annexation of Bavaria, Austria's military was directed to instead launch assaults in the east and the west, on Swabia and Hungary. Chaos ensued as supply trains were redirected, messengers galloped to relay the new instructions to the Austrian generals, and the roads between Wien and Munchen were cleared of all mercantile traffic to speed diplomatic traffic between these cities, as Koenigreich Bayern's military might was requested by His Highness to assist in the assault on the Swabians.
