Grüß Gott!
I trust this winter might hold one or two surprises as the continent's statesmen had to weigh the usefulness of land-based and naval arms against another. I'm curious how the ratio of fleets to armies shall evolve over the course of the game and mean to analyse such developments in the past game.
A good number of you submitted Keppler Award predictions and I wonder how these might be altered in future years.
I should mention that I welcome press from all quarters (players and observers). Some observers, for instance, have handicapped past games and shared their thoughts on the powers' changing fortunes. Note that any press may be made conditional on how particular events play out (e.g. a certain move succeeding).
I've lately tweaked one of 1648's sister-variants, 1926, in advance of a playtest I'm about to run. 1926 strikes me as a bit of a cross between the excellent "Ambition & Empire" and "1900" variants, since it uses the former's Diplomacy Points system while sharing some of the same map features as 1900. With merely seven great powers and a total of 47 SCs it's a more compact variant than 1648. Must say I'm of two minds whether I like 1648 or 1926 more. Anyway, I still need one player to fill all positions. So if you're interested in participating, send me your power preferences (first come, first serve). The latest maps and rules can be found at: http://www.dipwiki.com/index.php?title=1926 Actually, the latest changes to Poland are directly inspired by 1648...
Well, the upcoming year may become the make-or-break moment for many a great power. Note that preliminary orders are due on Monday 6 PM CET.
Liebe Grüsse,
Charles
