Hi guys,
I apologise for having kept you waiting. I'm afraid I had trouble accessing the internet. Anyway, made it back safely from my Aegean yachting cruise and enjoying the seaside near Athens. Meanwhile, Europe has not only witnessed pan-continental elections (I'm not exactly enthralled by the results... :( ), but plenty has also happened on our little map:
Spain's assault on Brest was checked by the English navy. Nor did the Escorial make any inroads into the Maghreb. With both Flanders and the eternal city being lost, Spain's armed forces will have to endure some painful downsizing.
Our other power which started off with four units, Sweden, has not fared any better. Her fellow-Scandinavians, the Danes, have seized all formerly Swedish holdings in Germany. The House of Oldenburg thus can firmly claim to be the champion of the Protestant cause within the Empire. Rumour has it that the Lutheran/Calvinist electors are looking to heave Frederick III of Denmark on the imperial throne. What view will the Hofburg take of such a potential challenge to her imperial reign...? Anyway, the Emperor now has Bavaria at his disposal for levying new troops. So Charlemagne's inheritance is proving quite handy at a time when the Habsburg's ancestral domains are already fully garrisoned.
Farther East, Muscovy and Poland-Lithuania have now traded supply centres this year, Sweden having supported the Czar, while the Sublime Porte has sided with the Rzeczpospolita.
As for the other Commonwealth, England, her seizure of the wealthy Low Countries provides the funds for considerably increased military expenditure. I take England's first two years as confirmation of me having by no means made her too weak a power.
Keep in mind that your adjustment orders may be made conditional on any preceding retreats. And I'll adjucate as soon as I'm back online and have a full set of retreats/adjustments (if not expressly asked by a player to wait until the expiration of the deadline).
As for spring deadline, I've now scheduled it for next Monday. 12 AM CET. Not quite sure where I'll be at that stage (Northern Greece? Serbia?). So I can't promise a prompt adjucation.
Cheers,
Charles
