PREV  Fall 1903 Adjudication:  NEXT

Good evening, all.

You guys are just burning up the interweb in your negotiations, aren't you? Know how I can tell? Because of all the revised order sets I'm receiving. This turn I got FIFTEEN sets of orders. Two of you submitted once and were done. That means the other five sent me (hold on for a minute... (15 - 2) / 5 = ...) an average of 2.6 sets apiece. Busy, busy!

Now it's time to see whether, after all that thinking and rethinking, you eventually settled on the right ones. And the answer is... yeah, more or less. By my reckoning, I would say that every player managed at least some modest success.

The highlights:

* Germany recaptures Denmark, with the help of the white army in Sweden.
* England hangs onto Kiel, thanks to the support of his French friends (masters?) in Holland.
* Italy backs away (or backs down?) from Turkey, but isn't done fighting with Austria. He takes Greece and destroys the Austrian navy.
* Austria is happy to return the favor, and Trieste to the fold, forcibly ousting the Italian interlopers from Trieste. Somehow I suspect it is something of a Pyrrhic victory, however. Does he dare to turn around and see what is going on behind him?
* Turkey pushes into Budapest, a very interesting place for Turks to be, given that his new neighbors number 2 Austrians, 4 Russians and 0 of his own countrymen.
* Which brings us at last to the big boys. France and Russia push merrily ahead on all fronts, picking up two and one new dots, respectively, to tie for the board top at 8 SC apiece. Very respectable totals for 1903. Verrrrry respectable indeed.

Next up, retreats and adjustments. I remind you again that these are submitted TOGETHER for this tournament. You will not see the retreats posted prior to having to submit your Winter builds or disbands. So, if the retreats make a difference to you, be sure to submit conditional adjustment orders. Be very clear, and don't try to make me do the work. I'm not counting how many neighbors your army has or whether or not so-and-so has retreated over the stalemate line. Examples of acceptable conditionals are:

1. If A Den retreats to Bal, build F Sevastopol. Otherwise, build A Warsaw.
2. If A Trieste retreats OTB, waive my builds.

If you have any doubt, you may always ask me when you submit your orders whether or not they are sufficiently clear. Okay? Okay.

Finally, a reminder that you can follow the tournament progress on the DC website. All 10 boards have a game page just like we do, and the individual player standings can be found by going to the Winter Blitz page and then clicking on the link for WB11 Standings. Mike and Mark are both doing very well, but not quite so well as our tournament leader, Amenhotep, who, as Russia in DC 364, was already occupying 10 SC at the end of LAST YEAR. Yes, 10 SC at the end of 1902! Either he really is a god on earth or, more likely in my opinion, he has been blessed with the most incompetent neighbors you're ever likely to see. Oh well, ain't nothing you can do about that game. You'll just have to do the best you can right here.

Cheers,
Chris
