I find it interesting that, if you Google "Paz Eterna", the first site you find is for a cemetery. The only eternal peace that is possible. Whereas if you Google "Bushwood", the first hit (beating out the country club and the bar & grill) is for a reggae funk rock band. And "Lemuria" -- which I was sure would bring up the scientific name for lemurs -- actually pulls up a bygone pre-plate-tectonics hypothesis of a sunken continent connecting Madagascar, India, and Australia, thus explaining the shared biological traits of species in these places.

At last! Constantinople has been claimed. They have been defying you for long enough with their "independence". Blech! It is only right and proper that they should be subjugated and brought into the loving despotism of Rhovanion.

Rhovanion actually goes +1 this year. Gains in Ankara and Constantinople more than offset the loss or Warsaw... while Bushwood passes through Rhovanion-controlled Sevastopol. The other 2-center power (Rosstopia) is also creating waves with his successful convoy to Yorkshire. Yay, roaring mice!

But if you want a real roar, go to the lion: +2 for Bushwood. And yet... it's unclear what the future holds for our gallant Mr. Kleiman. Lemuria engages in befuddling exercises against well-fortified Bushwood ports, and future Bushwood gains against FourGotten seem uncertain. Plus, with a four-center lead on the rest of the board, he's beginning to look conspicuous. Can he cash in on his early success?

It should be an intriguing year coming up in the West. Paz Eterna is emerging from his Iberian lair (he must trust those Lemurs) just as FourGotten and Mos Eisley suffer setbacks... and Rossoptia's in the middle of it all. Expect weirdness.

We have but one retreat this season -- that Mos Eisleyan fleet in Norway may retreat to Barents Sea, Skagerrak, or off the board. Order due tomorrow.
