PREV  Spring 1652 Adjudication:  NEXT

Hi guys,

the waxing and waning of powers goes on. Rather interestingly, both principal Mediterranean powers (Spain and Turkey) are simultaneously facing considerable difficulties. Such a relative power vaccuum in the region drawing in a host of interlopers should be quite rare, I'd say.

Meanwhile, Austria's westward march continues apace. Will it stop - or continue until Imperial spearheads reach the Atlantic?

The Eastern shores of the Baltic has witnessed an ever-increasing concentration of armies. I wonder who'll prevail there.

We again have a healthy dose of press submissions. Keep em coming!

There are no pending retreats. So we'll directly move to the fall season. The deadline being next Tuesday.

Happy dipping!

Charles

ANONYMOUS PRESS: (European News) An arriving Spanish fleet captain in Seville was heard to exclaim "Badges!? We don't need no stinkin' badges!" when he was asked for his sailing papers at port. When he was informed that he was not in the Siera Madres mountains and was not being deputized, the Captain apologized and said he would consult his maps.

Istanbule: Sales of "Turkish Taffy" continue to fluctuate with the uncertainties surrounding the stability of the Ottoman Empire. Pasha Bon-Omo retorted that rumors of internal strife were exaggerated since most of the complainers had already been executed. The Pasha reported that they are striving ever harder to get their taffy to as many European cities as possible, in spite of the tariffs and blockades. "We are just running into a lot of small, protectionist governments who want to build up their own taffy factories. But everybody knows there is only one, true Turkish Taffy! "

DANISH PRESS: Lost, but still, we ride! Search, until we die! All, the fault of pride! The Gods weep in the night...

ENGLISH PRESS: Parliament's recently passed Navigation Act was given a shakedown cruise when 27 Dutch ships were seized after an attempt at the illegal trading of counterfeit Charles Stuart Bobble-head action figures. More recently, Dutch ships were turned back after a cannon exchange with English patrol ships. Rising political star, Oliver Cromwell of St. Ives, Cambridgeshire, mandated that foreign ships passing the Cliffs of Dover must raise a white flag consisting of a Captain's tighty-whities.

Diplomacy games may contain lying, stabbing, or deliberately deceiving communications that may not be suitable for and may pose a hazard to young children, gullible adults, and small farm animals.
