Greetings Players,

Happy Monday to all, and congratulations to any Cheeseheads out there. Not the prettiest game ever, but it worked for me. Once the Pats went out there were about 5 million new Packer fans in the northeast. We were all impressed by their gutty performance in Foxboro during the regular season and besides, we just ain't gonna cheer for the Steelers. Go Pack!

Our conflict here in DC 363 may lack the blood, sweat and Gatorade of the Super Bowl, but otherwise the parallels are many. Strategy, tactics, deception, deployments, and plenty of hard hitting in all four quarters... of the map!

Highlights (or low lights, depending on your POV):

* Italy's battered offensive line tries to hold their ground, but the all-star defensive line put out there by A/R/T is just too strong. The defenders clog the middle and bring the heat on the outside. The left side of the O-Line does its best but still can't seal the gap against RDE Vienna. Things are even worse on the right side. Ionian, the right tackle, is knocked into the backfield by bullrushing RDE Aegean, while the stunting OLB Serbia completely blows up the right guard, Greece.

* If Italy-Austria represent fighting in the trenches, the northern seas are the speedsters. "Everybody go long!" says the E/F quarterback. Nice idea, but the Russian DB's suss out the Blue Duo's plans and are there to knock down the deep pass to Barents. Incomplete. Everybody has to go back and huddle up again.

* Which leaves Germany. The Kaiser Kids are famous in gridiron circles, but this edition are getting their ample backsides handed to them by the Rushin' Russians and Fancy Pants of France. It looks like the ball is on the ground and it's a free-for-all! At the end of the turn, Denmark and Kiel are both buried under a sea of white and teal jerseys. By the time the refs clear the pile, there are only enough parts left to make one fleet, which limps slowly off to the locker room to get taped up for the second half.

RETREATS:

Germany: F Denmark can retreat to Helgoland Bight. F Kiel can retreat to Helgoland Bight. They can't BOTH retreat to Helgoland Bight! GM flips a coin and auto-retreats Denmark to HB and Kiel off the board.

Italy: F Ionian Sea can retreat to Tunis or Tyrrhenian Sea or Naples or Apulia or Adriatic Sea or OTB.

NEXT DEADLINE: Retreats are due by Tuesday, Feb. 8, at 18:00 EST.

Cheers,
Chris
