PREV  Spring 1653 Adjudication:  NEXT

Hi guys,

let's see how things worked out for the powers:

Austria: Her campaign against the Spaniards yielded the emperor the Papal States and the strategically important Adriatic. The imperial fleet thus becomes a true blue water navy rather than a mere coastal patrol force. It looks like Franco-Austrian relations have rapidly deteriorated. Switzerland came under imperial attack. And what to make of France's futile support order in favour of the Austrians?

Denmark: Still hanging in there...

England: Cromwell chose not to defend Bristol. Gaining naval superiority in the Channel was further up his priority list.

France: The invasion of Spain comes at a time in which the English and Austrians are at war with the Grande Nation. Is the Sun King loading too much on his plate? Or will he thrive in adversity?

Russia: Failing to make it into the Ionian may be a temporary setback. In the Maghreb the Tsar faces now a guessing game. Can he outfox the Most Catholic King?

Sweden: Pushing westwards with gusto. Faces little in the way of opposition so far. In the East, the series of Russo-Swedish bounces look pre-arranged. But what of A Voronezh heading north...?

The three-way draw proposal failed. So now we move on to the summer season. Both France and Spain owe me retreat orders.

Cheers,

Charles
