PREV  Spring 1654 Adjudication:  NEXT

Hi guys,

are we about to see our first power eliminated from the game? Sweden has suffered a severe setback with both Stockholm and Abo being stormed by invaders. Meanwhile, the Czar had no means of opposing a second Turkish occupation of that pile of rubble once upon a time called the Kremlin. His dispersed forces are now precariously hanging on in regions outside of Russia proper.

At the opposite end of the great power spectrum, Turkey is notionally up one SC compared to his 12 SC count this past winter. Furthermore, the Sultan has arrayed a formidable host against the Austrian outpost at Belgrade.

Towards the centre, the Emperor and the Most Christian King have conspired to clear that wider region of its remaining minor powers. Louis XVI appears to have yet more wide-ranging plans. For he seems to be closing in on key English positions. Beacons on the British mainland have been lit upon the spotting of a large French fleet approaching from the West. Just when the Admirality had sent another naval expedition towards Russia!

Yet France also faces something of a naval threat. For Spain has withdrawn from past naval engagements with the Ottomans and may be out to avenge the "Rape of Madrid". Rumour has it that the Spanish king wants his precious art collection back!

Jim owes me a retreat order. Thereafter, the Fall 1654 Moves are set for 27 August. Coming Wednesday.

Happy dipping!

Charles
