Not my proudest moment. Also posted the wrong map. The one below should be the right one.
Thanks, guys, for being so fast in spotting those snafus of mine.

I'm afraid I once again forgot to include a press item (see below). Must do better in future!

Hallo zusammen,
this year saw us parting with both a player and our last minor power. This had me wondering how the rate of minor power eradication compares with the previous contest, dc499. To that end, I put together a chart:
Pretty similar, I'd say.
Which had me wondering how the two games compare in other respects. I recently got first acquainted with the game progression index used in quite a few Diplomacy circles (formula: the sum of each power's SCs squared divided by number of players involved). Game progress is interpreted as increasing concentration of SCs in ever fewer hands.
By the end of 1655, dc499 had been won by Andrew. So its higher index value comes as no particular surprise. As for dc509's game progress stagnating this year, I'd say that's down to Austria's progress having been checked.
Anyway, I mean to add the data of the three other 1648 games and see what trend this gives us.
Anyway, let's see what data 1656 holds in store for us!
Happy dipping!
Charles

HEADLINES:
ARMIES ACROSS EUROPE HEAD INTO WINTER QUARTERS
DANISH PRESS: Upon being questioned by Scottish reporters, the new commandant of the Danish fleet in Scotland had this to say "Yeah, so, our admiral got too cold sitting in the northern seas, leading landing parties ashore on Russian territory. So he decided to bring the fleet south to avoid 'winter storms'. I guess when word got back to Copenhagen the royals were enraged, because I received a message instructing me to take command, kill the admiral, and drink 'blood from the skull of that imbecile forthwith'. Done and done in a lazy afternoon, thought he last is taking time to complete. Do you know how difficult it is to drink blood from a skull? Anyway, we're waiting for the flesh to get eaten by maggots. Oh, but about the 'occupation' - not sure why its being called that, we're just ashore carousing as we do in port. Not our fault that the Cromwellian government officials ran to London screaming 'Vikings, Vikings'! We'll be putting back to sea in a few days...
