PREV  Summer 1918 Adjudication:  NEXT

Gentlemen,

The DIAS proposal has passed. We have officially ended our game with a 6-way draw between all nations EXCEPT Austria. Final standings and points will be computed as of Winter 1917.

Many purists will no doubt slam you for ending a game in a 6-way tie. Screw them! From my perspective, it is a testament to the extraordinary skill and tenacity of this group. The fact is, you have a player with 17 SC. It took all five of the others to stop him from soloing. Everyone played a part, and everyone deserves a share. Seems simple to me.

Congratulations to all, great and small, for making this one of the most memorable games with which I've been involved. I must confess that having finally reached the end, I am finding it slightly bittersweet. Like many of you, I'm looking forward to a some diplomatic down time. However, I'm also a bit sad that after this titanic struggle, we were not able to produce a clear champion who would then -- in great likelihood -- claim the tournament championship, too.

I am not planning to publish an EOG statement of my own, but I expect I might chip in with a comment or two in reply to what I'm sure will be VERY entertaining submissions from this group.

I'll also mention that as a matter of personal policy I will not be publishing the last submitted orders. If you're curious, and you want to share them amongst yourselves, feel free, but once the EGP passes I consider "what might have been" to be confidential.

Best of luck to all of you going forward, and I mean that both personally and diplomatically. I know that I shall make it my goal to avoid you all! After watching this one play out, and having just had my butt kicked all over the DCI, it's time for me to beat a strategic retreat and troll the newbie games for easier spoils.

Cheers,
Chris
