Fall 1905 Results for dc157 - test_gm   (Sep 13, 2007, 12:00 am)
Cry Havoc! (and let the blood spill) We have two forced disbands and one winter (or retreat) disband as well.

Austria takes Sevestopol from Russia, but leaves Ankara for the Italians.
England and France chase the Russian marines from London and England starts to rebuild.
France drives north further into Germany, but finds nothing gained in his Italian adventures. (Survivors were captured and interned in Italian POW camps. The Red Cross says they are being treated well.)
Germany is split by the French, and yet does not give up any units! (The Free German movement is getting stronger.)
Italy enveloped and crushed the invading French marines! Additionally they are again expanding their armed forces in response to the French threat.
Russia's north is secure.....but the south lost some ground. Hold the line! was the battle cry heard across the southern front. Although Sevestopol was lost the Russian military assures us that no further gains will be made by the advancing enemy.

We have two retreats and then four builds and a removal (unless disbanded during retreats). Here is how we will do this. Germany needs to send a retreat. Russian needs to send a retreat or disband, but if you retreat your fleet in London, then also include your Winter 05 removal (which may still be the Fleet now located in Wales). England needs to send a build. You may send a build order contingent upon whether the Russian fleet retreats or disbands from his current position (however if he retreats and then disbands it anyway then I will use the order based on his retreat). France needs to send two builds. (Lucky you....) You may send contingent builds if you see a need. (I don't think it would help much). Finally, Italy, you must have found enough pieces left from the French fleet because you too get to send in a build order! (Is that two in a row?) You may send contingent build orders, but I don't see why it would help you. (but just to be fair I thought I would offer....lol)

Lets shoot to have these orders in by 8pm EST (currently midnight GMT) on Friday evening 30th of May. Again if I have complete sets of orders before then I will try to get the results out right away.

dc 167 Turkey Eog Statemant - test_gm   (Sep 13, 2007, 12:00 am)
Fellows

First of all, I would like to thank Christine for GMing this game.

At the beginning of the game, I am totally open to work with anyone who treat me nice. Austria and Italy looked fine. But I didn't see any sincerity from Russia, so I was skeptical on him and move my fleet to Black Sea. This move is crucial, as I successfully bounced with him. Meanwhile, Austria supported Italy to Greece. Fortunately, Italy did not enter Greece, instead it attacked Austria. From then on, we have weak Austria and Russia. Italy and I divide Austria and Russia was divided by England, Germany and me.

The map develops very quickly. If France was in this game, we would not have a great stalemate in 1904, and I would not stab Italy in 1906. As soon as 1903, both Germany and England had asked me to stab Italy. Two reasons I didn't do so: 1. my troops are not ready; 2. England and Germany would start moving South. On the eve of my stab, I had struggled (truth, though it's hard for Speedybunny to believe). This was what I thought: I had a plan for Italy against English fleets, but I would get nothing, since Germany had a sturdy defense. To stab Italy, I need to be sure that Germany would not move South, or I would be in danger. So, I contacted England took action together. If England did not do it, I would be in deep trouble, because Germany could start moving Southwards. In the end England tried Belgium, and I stabbed Italy successfully.

England and I had discussed about a 2-way draw. However, we could not make it. The main reason is that I can't trust either England and Germany. England had promised DMZs between us, but he breach them and even tried attacking my ION. I lost my trust on him. For Germany, Michael had never talked with me in the beginning of the game. Even during the stalemate, we only talked once or twice. When I realized I could not trust England, I gave offer to Germany, hoping that he would push his force against England, but he didn't do so. So, I took both Venice and Rome from Germany and England in 1909.

True, if I keep going, I could get WAR, MOS and MUN too. However, I know that if the game continues, England and Germany would work together against me. I could never get solo. Worst, England would had a solo. That's why I agreed with the draw, especially when England still agree with it.

Overall, it's a good game. I am happy to play with you guys. I am looking forward to the next game.

Brian

Gents,

Here follows my tale and take on the game. Right from the beginning, before the game kicked off, I checked how everyone had done in round 1. From that I saw that Paul had done a solo, Michael was about to solo, and Italy and myself has also managed a solo. So, from the onset I wanted to work with Russia (Mick) and Turkey (Brian), since they were the least threat to me in the tournament overall. Yea, I admit it - I was looking towards winning the whole thing, and having soloed in game 1, I felt that I had to.

Anyway, it soon became aparent that France might not be playing at all - so that made my choice of ally Michael first and foremost - both because of his good communication and due to the fact that I know how hard it is to really boom as Germany when you have a big England behind your back!

Anyway, the early years things went easy – getting 2 builds in 01 really made a big difference, as did the fact that neither Austria nor Russia built in 01, and the italian move into Tri was a big surprise as well. This made my move in 02 vs Stp an easy choice, even though Mick was beeing mauled in the south, I saw an opportunity to help Turkey grow, and that would probablly be good in the longer run. In 03, things got really interesting in the Med – sadly I did not manage to catch Italy off guard, which would have been a big bonus. In 03, it became clear what this was boiling down to; a stalemate between E/G and I/T.

However, I’ve seen quite a few tries at the I/T and not one of them has ever lasted. The tension and temptation is just too great – especially for Turkey. So, now that things reeeeeally slowed down, I went into lenghty talks with both Brian and Michael. Me and Brian both refused to budge, he wanted me to attack Michael and I wanted him to hit Italy. That’s how it stayed for quite a while.

A lot of e-mails went back and forth, and somehow I managed (I want to belvie that anyway) to keep both Brian and Michael happy. Then, prior to fall 06 – Brian gave me the get-go, if I promised to attack Bel, he would stab Italy. This was quite close to deadline, so I hastily changed my orders to attack Bel and at the same time shot off a message to Michael that implied I was going to hit Bel and that he should do something about it. I did not say it out loud, thinking that could backfire – I only prayed he had the chance to read the message. And he did. My ‘move’ vs Germany dod not do anything and Turkey made the decesive move that crippled Italy.

From Italys downfall I first gained Tun, and while a few of my and Michales units tussled with pre-arranged bounces, I shuffled my forces closer to Italy at a modest pace. 07 was interesting, here I had a plan to strike Turkey with Italys help – Italy would stay at 4 centers if germany helped, otherwise 3, and I could have advanced my position even further. Sadly, Italy missed the 100% play for Nap and instead moved Rome to Nap with Tyn support instead of the other way around – which would have worked since I attacked Ion and cut that support. However, I also moved into Tyn (since Italy ahd to move out) and thus I accidently cut Italys support….whoops!

I was dishearthened, and I expected Turkey to curse me for what I had tried to do. I fired off an explantion before he wrote me that was so and so plausible – but Brian seemed to accept it, and all was fine in the world. In 08, I was proud the convoy from Bre to Tus hit home – but otherwise, things were bogging down again.
So, to get it going – and to possibly improve my score, I stabbed Germany in spring 01, taking Den and gaining a substansial positional advantege. However, I also made some moves vs Turkey – in order to protect myself, as I feared he would take Rom. The bad thing about all this was that it drove germany straight into the open arms of Turkey – and I was rewarded by having Rom taken. However, Turkey also snatched Ven from Germany, which put Germany back on my sideline.

I decided to go for a stalemate and also proposed a 3-way draw. I knew I could not go further or the risk of Turkey taking a solo was too great – especially since there was no certain way of holding Mos and War. The vote passed, and that was it!

I must say, I did consider voting against it – looking at the other games in the tournament, it might be a liability to end before the other tables, since then there is a score to beat. I would have prefered to have it the other way around, but I also wanted to acknowledge the good play by Brian and Michael. I was also a bit surprised that Brian did accept the draw, even though he said he would. War and Mos were certain gains and that would have been another 0.2 points – though there was never any chance of a solo.

My final question goes to Michael; Would you have voted in favour of an E/T draw – not that it matters now, but I’d like to know since I’ve been thinking about it.

To wrap it up, Thank you to Christine for doing an excellent job as a GM and to all of you who played on this board, especially Michael who was a very reliable ally and Brian who was a deadly opponent. Special mention should also go to Paul – every message we exchanged was a bit of fun, and that’s what really makes a game enjoyable!

I’m looking forward to battle you al lonce again, untill then – you know where to find me! Smile

DC 183 Fall 1902 - test_gm   (Sep 13, 2007, 12:00 am)
Fall 1902 moves are in...

We say goodbye to Austria, who shuffles off this mortal coil despite best efforts of his forces to sneak into Greece and Venice. Many thanks to Stuart for playing this through!

Unfortunately, we have a second NMR from Germany, so I'm declaring Germany in civil disorder. With only two centres and surrounded by hostile forces, I suspect getting a replacement could be difficult, but I'll try and refill the German position, per my house rules.

Elsewhere on the map, England takes full advantage by grabbing the low countries, whilst France grabs Berlin and forces her way into the Med. In the East, Russia makes advances in the north and the south, whilst Turkey finally makes it into Serbia thanks to Italian support.

With no retreats we move to Winter 1902, with the following builds needed:

Austria - remove 1 (automatic removal of fleet in Adriatic)
England - build 2
France - build 1
Germany - remove 1
Italy - build 2
Russia - build 1
Turkey - build 1

Can folk please submit their builds by 2000GMT on Monday 2nd June. Should I get a replacement German player, I'll extend this deadline as appropriate

dc 167 Turkey Eog Statemant - test_gm   (Sep 13, 2007, 12:00 am)
Gents,

My comments to Brian's EoG.

I had a plan worked out for a stalemate, so Mun was never in danger Mun/Bur/Ruh is unbeatable and that position was easy to obtain.

As I feared, my paranoia - the attacks on Ion for example, were the biggest misstake.
Other than that, there might have been a 2-way. As for me taking a solo, no I don't think that was ever realistic, since you would have been at 16 and a strike from me would have made geramny weak enough for you to punch forward in the last two needed. That's my take on it all.

/ Mikael

I could not locate orders from France, so the French losses are worse than they otherwise might be. England sinks the French fleet in Liverpool and sails into Portugal. Russia continues streaming armies westward, pushing his way into Marseilles and also keeping hold of Burgundy. With no opposition, Italy gains MAO. Meanwhile, Turkey moves into both Greece and Ionian Sea.

Two units are dislodged. The French fleet in Liverpool has no valid retreats and is destroyed. The French army in Marseilles has only one valid retreat, to Spain. To keep the game moving, I will go ahead and issue that retreat order. Kyle, if for some reason you would prefer to retreat OTB, please let me know tomorrow.

Fall 1909 orders will be due next Thursday 6/5 at 3pm Central (US). Thanks!

Cory

DC141 Seven Sinners - Fall 1908 - Keepsakes And Tr... - test_gm   (Sep 13, 2007, 12:00 am)
The English manage to hold the line in the Scandinavias, taking back Sweden and holding the fort in Denmark. Germany sneaks through in Burgundy, however. With a French build coming, it looks like an interesting few turns coming up.

One retreat due from Russia in Sweden - options are the Gulf of Bothnia, Skaggarak or OTB. Deadline for the Early Winter 1908 retreat will be set for Saturday, May 31st (11:59 PM GMT)...

Let me know if you spot any errors. Cheers!

DC172 - GM Error and Another Pending Replacement - test_gm   (Sep 13, 2007, 12:00 am)
Hi folks,

My apologies but it appears that I missed a French order with the Spring 1603 adjudication. France ordered Navarre -> Mid-Atlantic. Result remains a dislodgement in Navarre, but the Spanish fleet from Granada will bounce in the Mid-At as well.

With regret though, I have to announce that Harry has resigned from the game necessitating another replacement. I will send out the updated map and .dpy file tomorrow, as well as immediately begin seeking a new French player. Hopefully we will not be delayed too long.

Cheers!

their neighbours offering protection. Surely there won't be a war in
Europe with such a friendly bunch of tyrants.

Subject: DC 134 EGS (please distribute)

I’ve already thanked Jason for a great game, and of
course want to thank everyone who played to the end.
It took me a while to figure out what can be done with
the Sea Folk, which is actually very specific. They
need cooperation to do well, but can ruin the game of
any coastal player. I did a mediocre job of marrying
those two.

The theme of my game, however, was communications.

I allied with Steve from the start, because we
maintained excellent communications until near the
end, when our email inexplicably screwed up. I had
turned on Felix with Steve, but when Felix left, I
offered Garry and Jules a chance to form an alliance
against Trout, who as he notes, wasn’t doing much to
stay meaningfully in touch. Jules totally frustrated
me, alternately firing off anti-Steve emails, then not
responding to my replies. I pointed out to him why he
was a dead man if he didn’t do as suggested, and he
chose to do otherwise. Oh well. Garry and I were
about to cave in Trout when my lack of contact with
Steve led to his building a fleet, which led to my
allying with Trout against Steve. The game hung in
the balance with Garry… and fittingly ended that way.

Attention all of my players with Hotmail addresses:

I have no idea what is going on - but all of my emails sent to any hotmail account are bouncing. Its a little frustrating, to say the least. I'm thinking that Bill Gates revved up his SPAM filter and somehow my emails have been caught in the net.

In any case - if you are in one of my games and have a hotmail address, please get in touch with me to provide an alternate one that I can send email confirmations, turn adjudications and the like to. I'm trying not to take the fact that hotmail tells me that my messages are SPAM personally, but at best it validates the reasons why I long ago switched to gmail.

DC176 - Winter 1903 - deadline REMINDER: tonite 23... - test_gm   (Sep 13, 2007, 12:00 am)
Still waiting for the Winter 1903 orders from some of the Powers.
If you're listed as BCC, I have not yet received any orders from you.
Just over 6 hours to go...

Please send them to me asap to prevent a NMR. Below is attached the rules for a NMR in Winter.
Your GM
Frank

o On a Winter turn an NMR (NBR/NDR) would mean that if the player was building - the builds would be waived and if the player was disbanding, units would be disbanded under the following rules
§ Units not in a supply center before units in a supply center
§ Units further from home centers before units closer to home centers (counted in provinces using the shortest route to the nearest home centre - whether still owned by the player or not).
§ Fleets before armies if equidistant per the above
§ Alphabetical.

DC143 fall 1906 results! - test_gm   (Sep 13, 2007, 12:00 am)
Sorry this is late, today is a very busy day at work. Even with the delay, though, I could not find orders from the Tsar.

France finally gets the upper hand on England, while Austria takes advantage of a Russian NMR to retake Rumania. And with the French fleet in North Sea busy against England, Germany pushes into Belgium. We bid a final farewell to England -- Michael, thanks for playing through to the end.

A total of four units are dislodged. Both English units can be automatically removed. The other two units have only one valid retreat, so I will go ahead and order those retreats -- Joe and Shawn, please let me know if you would prefer to retreat OTB instead.

All remaining players will have orders due in the winter 1906 adjustment phase, as follows:

Austria build 1
France build 1 (or build 2 if retreat OTB)
Germany build 1
Russia remove 1

The winter 1906 adjustments are due Tuesday 6/3 at 23:59 GMT.
