Aegean f01 results! A day in the life... - test_gm   (Sep 13, 2007, 12:00 am)
A day in the life of a Persian soldier…
… Wake up
… Feed the sheep
… Look out the window to see the Macedonians and Ionians on your doorstep

Buildless in 01, the Persians may be in for a rough ride if the tides don’t turn! On other fronts, the Athenians get hit hard as Chalcis is sacked, and all over the map players pass up easy builds to press the attack! Mental note never to trust any of you… Wink

Winter, due Wednesday 10am Pacific!

Boeotia: Chalcis may retreat to Pht or Eub or OTB (Off the Board)

Athens: Build 2
Boeotia: Build 1 (or Build 2 if disbanding the retreat)
Macedonia: Build 1
Ionia: Build 3
Sparta: Build 2
Thessalia: Build 3
Persia: Even

Note: RETREATS and BUILDS are all due together! Any builds may be made conditional upon the retreats… e.g… if X retreats here, then build this, or if they retreat here, then build this. But they are all adjudicated at the same time. Do not miss your builds expecting a separate turn for retreats first!

Enjoy,
-mike

dc188 - GM Comment - test_gm   (Sep 13, 2007, 12:00 am)
Greetings Gents.

I've noticed a few prelim orders with something in the subject.

Please ignore any reference to WM04R213 or anything to do with WM. My house rules must have been from a game I GM'ed for an online Dip tournament.

All that is necessary in the subject line is "dc188", the season we're in "Spring 1901" and your country.

But I appreciate it that people have read the house rules. Not much will change, but I will make sure the most up-to-date copy of my rules are uploaded to the website.

Let me know if you have any questions,
-kevin

WOT version 2 (1.5 really) - test_gm   (Sep 13, 2007, 12:00 am)
Here are the changes:
Eastlands is gone, game is now 6 players
Dragonmount and Fal Dara SCs are gone
New Pass through the Mntns of Mist, link Emonds field and Katar should help reduce the westlands isolation
A number of new sea spaces allow more maneuvering by non-seafolk navies, and make assaults on Seafolk home SCs more plausible.
2 small RP bugs fixed.

Please take a look at the changes and give me your feedback, I will start a new playtest once one of the other games I am GMing finishes.

New Variant - Schroedingers Cat - test_gm   (Sep 13, 2007, 12:00 am)
Ok, here is about the craziest thing I’ve come up w regarding new variants…

We’ve all heard of Double Diplomacy where you play 2 boards, a country on each board, can put units on either.

And we’ve all heard the Schroedingers Cat theories… (or at least the physics majors have)… Where something can both exist and not exist, until such time as you look and see.

Well I’m thinking of a variant for 7 players played on 2 boards… where the units phase into and out of one board onto the other, if the space they’d transpose onto is vacant. They would do this at set intervals, possibly following some sort of wave moving across the board

Like for example… at the end of every spring… units that are on one board may phase out, and then into the other board in the same position… only units that could move there, ie there wasn’t a unit there on the other board. Then maybe in fall, the same thing happens to the other board. Then centers are captured based on this.

The key to winning it would be to best grasp how and when units would phase out of one board, and onto the other to create numerical advantages or capture centers.

Or, maybe make the transpose an order instead of an automatic thing.

It could also be called Parallel Universe or something like that.
Thoughts?

DC 161 Knights Who Say Ni! - Spring 831 - Blancman... - test_gm   (Sep 13, 2007, 12:00 am)
This is indeed a grim day for the human race, Dan...

But its an exciting day for the Knights of Ni! The kettle boils over in the tumultous fray on the island. Meanwhile the Britons land in Brittany and the Scots pull a surprise convoy to Ireland. All signs point to one hell of a Fall turn. =)

Two retreats are required after the Spring slaughters... One each from the Britons and the Anglo-Saxons. Deadline for Summer 831 retreats will be set for Wednesday, June 4th (11:59 PM GMT).

Just let me know if you spot any errors. Cheers folks!

New Variant - Schroedingers Cat - test_gm   (Sep 13, 2007, 12:00 am)
It's similiar to the 'wormhole' variant? where a piece can enter a wormhole and move without interference

eg

spring 1908
f london enters wormhole
(hidden moves are london- english channel - mao - por, exit wormhole

so it moves fall 08 (english channel), spring 09 (mao)

Fall 09
f wormhole - portugal

There's also rules about if the place is not empty etc....

I think this version could work well... did you need 18 SC on one board to win? or 36 between both?

Tough call! the first person to 18 on either board maybe? Might be too easy to solo then cuz you can combine your units from the other board.

DC 183 Winter 1902 - test_gm   (Sep 13, 2007, 12:00 am)
Folks

It's been brought to me attention that I'm mistaken in stating that the deadline for builds was Tuesday - my email with the Fall 1902 results stated it was Monday. Unfortunately, I'm now at work, and don't have access to Realpolitick, the adjudication program that I use, so I'll adjudicate when I get home this evening (1800GMT or thereabouts)

Sorry for any confusion

Michael

Schroedinger's Cat - test_gm   (Sep 13, 2007, 12:00 am)
I Like it. It's different from wormhole, because this happens automatically, not as an order.

Maybe it can be a wave that repeats itself every two years (one ripple after each S/F Season), and have a table like in Deluge. Maybe starting in the SW corner:
Ripple One: MAO, Spa, Por, NAf, WMe, Tun
Ripple Two: NAO, IRI, ECH, France, Italy, TYS, ION
Ripple Three: England, NWS, NTH, HEL, Bel, Hol, Germany, War, Austria, Ser, Gre, Alb, ADR, AEG
Ripple Four: Scandanavia, Bar, Bal, GoB, Fin, Ska, Russia - War, Rum, Bul, BLA, Turkey, EAS
The wave can go through, say, the top board first, and then the bottom board.

Or maybe there are 10 randomly selected spaces that get transferred if it is possible.

Or Each player chooses one opponent's piece to transfer if possible.

I like parallel universe better as a name...but then again, I am no physics major...

Probably should just have auto-retreated here folks - apologies about that. Don't think it slowed us up too much. Deadline for Fall 1873 orders remains as previously set - for Saturday, June 7th (11:59 PM GMT).

dc163 Spring 1905 Results - test_gm   (Sep 13, 2007, 12:00 am)
Those dogs of war are howling with delight! Cannons boom and the cries of victory and defeat are heard across the lands.

World Wide Press reports
Austria's forces routed, but look to rally.
England's navies control the oceans and her armies drive into France.
French forces trade lands within Italy, while repositioning at home to repel the invaders.
German citizens quietly watch, and long for the days of peace.
Italian forces reclaim Venice, but lose Naples.
Russian troops provide critical assistance in two separate fronts while following the Italian forces south in yet a third action.
Turkey routs the Austrians!

Ok that was for fun....this is for real.

I need retreat orders for both Austrian units. The army to Budapest or Albania and the Fleet to Albania or the Ionian Sea.
I need retreat orders for the French unit dislodged from Burgandy. It may retreat to Gascony or Marseilles.

Lets get those in ASAP and I will then shoot to have the Fall moves due next Monday. If I don't get the retreats quickly I will adjust the moves due date.

Heya folks of the March,

Spring 1903 grooves on without a hitch. Turkey and France feel the heat as the former draws fire from the Russians and Austrians while Germany shows the latter the door in Burgundy. France had the only retreat from the Spring moves - as Picardy was the only option other than OTB I took the liberty. However, if our fearless Frenchman wishes to retreat OTB instead, please just let me know and I will correct the adjudication.

My thanks for everyone for the patience during this Troutish interlude... I happily return you to the hands of your regular GM. Deadline for Fall 1903 will be set for Wednesday, June 4th (11:59 PM GMT) or as later announced by Garry.

If you spot an error, please just drop me a line. Cheers everyone!
