DC-184 Game Start - test_gm (Sep 13, 2007, 12:00 am) |
Folks,
I'd like to welcome you all to the game. I've got
seven confirmed sets of country preferences, and now
seven assigned countries. I've listed country
assignments below, and attached my house rules. Since
they're not exactly the same as DC's standard rules,
I'd suggest getting to know them.
I hope everybody is satisfied with the assignments
they've been given. I'm fairly certain you all got
either your first preference or your second.
The Players:
Austria: Pontus Nilsson pontus(at)wallmanderco.se
England: Kevin Leblanc kevinleb94(at)hotmail.com
France: Scott Lapp pyrasea(at)yahoo.com
Germany: Roger Strand PellefantSpam(at)gmail.com
Italy: Chris Morse camorse22(at)yahoo.com
Russia: Ross Webb rodtheworm(at)hotmail.com
Turkey: Sean Walsh sean.ayearaway(at)gmail.com
The Deadline:
Spring 1901 is due Friday, 23 May at 2pm CST/CDT (7pm
GMT.) This should be plenty of time to get your Game
Start negotiation done.
If anyone has a vacation, holiday, broken toilet,
amputated limb, etc. that will cause a delay or may
take you away from your email for any period of time,
please let me know as soon in advance as possible. I
keep a very pretty table of deadlines (for *all* my
games) open on my computer at all times, and I can add
in any scheduled absences I'm informed of. This makes
it very easy to plan game turns around people's
personal lives, so please don't ever NMR with the
excuse that I made it too difficult for you to meet a
deadline.
I've recently discovered that RealWorld (an improved
version of RealPolitik) can handle a substantial
amount of variants - many more than RP. Because of
this, I have begun to use RW exclusively. Therefore, I
will provide, with every adjudication, a .dpy (RP)
file AND a .dpw (RW) file, as well as a JPEG file. I
intent to use the output from the 'Save Status' option
in RW in the adjudication - you'll all see what that
looks like with the first turn's results. It's easy to
read and gives all the information a player could want
about his moves and position as well as those of his
boardmates.
However, if anyone, for any reason, is unsatisfied
with the appearance of the adjudication (again, you'll
have to wait until the first one comes out to see,)
feel free to let me know at any time, and I can fall
back on a trusty old system that looks pretty (but is
more time consuming.)
Again, any questions at any time are welcome, and
will receive a prompt response. I look forward to
running this game for you. As I've said many times in
the past, this is not my game, I'm just facilitating
it for you. You, the players, own this game. Make it
what you want it to be.
Thanks all,
The White Wolf

Aegean Diplomacy! - test_gm (Sep 13, 2007, 12:00 am) |
Dear all, I am ready, willing and able to play. Admittedly, I don't have vast amounts of diplomacy experience but am willing to give any variant - even a developmental one - a red hot go.
Looking forward to the go-ahead,
Paul Howell.

Aegean looks like a great variant and is definitely one I've never played. I've played a handful of Diplomacy games at DC, but quite a number at the sister site of Redscape. You can often find my opinions posted on Redscape's political forum, however I am sick of the Reverend Wright topic.
Look forward to hearing from you.

Welcome Dip Friends,
To this game of Aegean Diplomacy!
This is the first time this game has been played in dc, and really the first time I've heard of it being played anywhere - so it should be a pretty experimental game - hopefully a lot of the basic strategies of standard 7-player dip will be equally applicable here, so you're not totally in the dark about what to do.
Being the first time played, I'll run it completely random for the countries. So take a moment to reply to me (or the group) to let me know you're still interested, committed to play to the end, and if you like, a bit about you, especially the new players that I dont know here.
See you soon with country assignments once I hear from all 7!

With apologies, I find myself still one set of orders short of the complete collection. I've given Luke a little extra time, but have now notified him that he has until 11:59 PM GMT this evening (Sunday) to get me orders. Failing that, I will look for a replacement for the Turkish position.
Thanks for hanging in there everyone. Realize this is turning out to be a little bit of a longer turn - but we'll be cruising along again before you know it.

DC172 Midsummer's Night Stab - Fall 1602 - The Two... - test_gm (Sep 13, 2007, 12:00 am) |
... A man I am, cross'd with adversity. ...
And crossed with adversity, our Poland finds itself crushed like so much Orange Juice pulp... The Swedish stab of Russia hits a snag as the new Tsar makes up the lost centers at Turkey's expense. And in the west, once again the French and the Spanish trade centers as Flanders and Gascony both return to their previous owners.
I'd like to send a big shout-out to Gregory who, facing so much adversity, never faltered and played it right out to the end. Thanks man - and we'll look forward to seeing you turn the tables in the next one. =)
Several retreats are required after the Fall 02 moves - one each from France, Spain and the Ottomans. Deadline for the Early Winter 1602 retreats will be set for Tuesday, May 13th (11:59 PM GMT).
Please let me know if you spot any errors. Cheers!

Remember, if you have no confirmation, you have no orders. I HAVE caught up on sending all confirmations from being out of town.

.ExternalClass .EC_hmmessage P {padding:0px;} .ExternalClass body.EC_hmmessage {font-size:10pt;font-family:Tahoma;} All,
{sigh}. Your GM has had to make a tough decision. I deliberated and got a second opinion and finally came to this decision. This decision affects our timeline and our current round.
Situation - France submitted a build order; however, I never received it AND he had no confirmation email from me stating such. According to the strictest letter of the law, it is the
PLAYER'S responsibility to ensure that I have received their orders and that they have confirmation. In fact, I have received more than one email from at least one of you when you
had yet to receive my confirmation. The question here is whether or not to allow the build that France showed me in the email that he forwarded me. In Steven's defense, I should have
probably sent him an email with a grace period stating that I had not received his build and I failed to do so. Based on the build AND the situation of the game, I feel like this was not
an attempt to beat the game but rather just an unfortunate event.
AS SUCH, I am going to allow the build [F in Mar] for W01. Several factors were weighed, not least amongst which were the timing in the game [I would NOT have allowed it later in a game
most likely because the impact would probably have been MUCH greater]. This decision is final! Hopefully all concur that I am trying to do what is the right thing for the spirit of the game.
Where that leaves us is in a bit of a delay. Today was the day for our S02 deadline. Given the new news, that is not a timeline that we need to keep. Instead, let's push our deadline for S02
back until Monday May 12th at 5pm CST.
GIVEN THIS EXAMPLE, PLEASE remember that orders are not complete until CONFIRMED by me. I do my best to confirm at least every few days. In cases where I cannot [due to travel], I will
do my best to let you know that confirmations will be slow. IF you do not have confirmed orders, you should send them again AND copy to orders(at)diplomaticcorp.com (orders(at)diplomaticcorp.com). That is a mailbox from
which orders can be retrieved later if there is any question/concern. To keep this mailbox from becoming overloaded, please ONLY do this when you feel the need to send a second set because
you don't have confirmation. I cannot stress enough that ensuring that orders are received IS THE RESPONSIBILITY OF THE PLAYER!
That said, I may not be able to confirm orders Friday or Saturday. Sunday confirmation will be late in the day. Thus I set the Monday deadline so that you can be sure that you received confirmations.
I apologize for our detour here but I do feel that this is the right thing to do AND is the right thing for the spirit of the game.

EVERYONE wants Munich but Germany holds true.
Russia and Turkey seem to be on the same page...in the wrong way!
Bounces abound, most by Russia and Turkey.
AND France foregoes a guaranteed build in Por to gain entry into the
Med.
An interesting 1902 awaits! Too early to see what alliances hold.
Ah...once again a misorder [this time outlined in the orders below]. As previously committed, builds are due Monday, May 5th at 5pm CST. No retreats are required.
Point of inquiry - what should be our next deadline beyond that? I will be out of town Friday 9th to Sunday 11th. Should we hold orders for Spring 1902 until Sunday OR try to fit in orders by Thursday 5pm on the 8th? Majority rules. In light of votes, we will default to the LATER deadline to make sure that all get a proper chance to play the game.

dc185 - Clash of the Titans - Game Start! - test_gm (Sep 13, 2007, 12:00 am) |
Greetings! This game shall henceforth be known as dc185, Clash of the Titans!
Please include either dc185, or COT in any mails to me about the game. Also include your country and season.
475 BC. Classical Greece, when Democracies were formed, and the Parthenon was built… For a concise summary of recent events leading up to the powers that are on this map, see: http://www.conservapedia.com/Greco-Persian_Wars
A brief note on prelims – I push these every game! It is the best habit you can get into, send prelims once you get your results, so you don’t have to worry about sending them in last minute. You can always revise your orders later in the week as often as you like. I will confirm orders usually very quickly, but at the latest within a day! If you do not get a confirmation from me, then please find a way to make sure I have your orders! The responsibility lies with the player to make sure you have a “received” from me!
Timing – We’ll go at the leisurely pace of a week for major turns, and 2 days for minor turns. Always 10am Pacific, which is 1pm Eastern, 5pm GMT, 6pm UK, 7pm CET. Deadlines will generally be on Mondays, Wednesdays, and Fridays.
Map – you can all download the Realpolitik files from the variants page of the website if you like to use RP. I’ll include a map and dpy file with adjudications. Attached is a names map, showing some valid abbreviations you can use, tho in general I will send out maps without the names since it’s pretty ugly with them turned on.
Game Page: www.diplomaticcorp.com?game_id=dc185. Stay up to date on standings, dig the dirt on your fellow players, see the past adjudications, current map, etc.
Message Board: http://www.diplomaticcorp.com/phpbb2/viewforum.php?f=82
You can post via email: dc185(at)diplomaticcorp.com (dc185(at)diplomaticcorp.com).
********************************************
First deadline: A bit longer than normal, since turn 1 diploming can be intense... Wednesday May 21, 10am Pacific! This should give us a bit of time for some intros and general lollygagging. But do send in prelims! Send me at least a prelim set by this Friday so we’re ready to rock and roll next week.
********************************************
And finally – The countries!!
Leader of Athens, right in the center of the map and in red: Max!
Out on the tip of the Peloponnesus and wearing black, our Spartan Mark!
Across the Corinthian, in the light cyan, we have the Boeotians led by Paul!
Just up the coast, we have the Thessalians led by Alan in yellow!
Near mainland Europe in blue, we have the Macedonians – and their capable leader Jorge!
Coming out of Asia Minor, we have Michael driving the mean green Persian machine!
And on the coast with their 3 shiny white fleets we have the Ionians – and Garry!

DC140 summer 1908 1-day reminder - test_gm (Sep 13, 2007, 12:00 am) |
I will be away this afternoon, so this reminder is a bit earlier than usual. The summer 1908 retreat deadline is tomorrow 5/13 at 3pm Central (US), and I have not yet received the French retreat. Kyle, please be sure to send it in, since with more than one valid destination, I can't automatically order the retreat for you. Thanks!

dc168 turkey spring 08 - test_gm (Sep 13, 2007, 12:00 am) |
since i've been eliminated there have been about 5 nmrs, orders broadcast to everyone and i'm sure there have been other mistakes. now that i'm out of the game no one can be bothered with it any more? i'd have preferred the nmr's while i was still playing!
no worries,
pintoski.

Thanks to the proximity of the reply all button to the reply button, you
all just got my orders. Wonderful. Rest assured they'll be changed now...
Although I guess you all now have insight into what I was planning for
this turn so feel free to go ahead and discuss any/all of it with me.

DC 160 - Nightstalkers - Game On Hold - test_gm (Sep 13, 2007, 12:00 am) |
Greetings all,
Our intrepid Frog has been forced by RL concerns to leave us.
I have asked Trout to put our situation to the Light Brigade, and we should soon have a replacement player (a 6 SC france will not take long to fill, unlike the 2 SC Austria who bailed in another game I am running )
I will let you know as soon as I have any updates.
Jason

Message DIV { MARGIN:0px;} Jason,
I am afraid that, due to new work commitments taking me all over the place, I am unable to continue playing as France in this game. What do I need to do in order to resign my position? The changes are very unexpected and mean that I would have very different access to email systems etc from before and would therefore be practically incapable of delivering moves to deadline let alone carryong out the necessary diplomacy.
Kind regards
Paul

I have attached the updated map, and by request will extend the deadline until Wednesday, May 7th
I am still short one set of retreat orders.

Thanks for managing to get orders in (pretty much) on time - I should very much like to keep this game NMR-free. Sending prelims, as some of you already have for Spring '99 is very helpful in achieving this goal.
As mentioned before, Deadline for Spring '99 is Tuesday 20th of May, 3pm GMT. Please get them in directly - will of course adjudicate as soon as I have a complete set of orders marked 'Final'
Kind regards
