DC428 Spring 1909 Orders - Zoterik   (Sep 27, 2012, 9:22 pm)
1909 opens with quite a few cautious moves as leaders of Europe try to figure out the new Tsar.  The German occupation of Belgium is maintained as French and Russian generals can't figure out what to do, while England's fate may lie solely with either French mercy or misorder.  We shall see soon enough if France is a de Gaulle or a Clouseau.

The Turkish F Aegean Sea is dislodged; the Summer 1909 retreat is due 9:00pm CDT on 29 Sep, or 03:00 BST on 30 Sep.  As usual, adjudication will take place immediately unless the retreat is designated as provisional.

DC436: Gunboat - cbconnell   (Sep 27, 2012, 6:01 pm)
We've
got seven confirmed players, so we're ready to rock and roll!?? Our game
number is DC436. The game number's important as I need you to use it in
the headers of any emails you send me, per the house rules. It makes
everything??easier!??It is not good enough to simply reply to emails from me with your orders. You??must??put very specific information in your subject lines to me every time you send an email:

the accepted format is: DC436 [country name] [season] [order version]examples: DC436 England Fall 02 v1; DC436 France Winter Builds 1904 v3; DC436 Germany Spring 05

Our first move deadline will be Monday, October 1 at 8:30 PM MDT (02:30 02-10-12 GMT)

However, I will accept any press you wish to send out as we are planning Spring 01 moves.

send them to me with "DC436: [country name] PRESS" before Friday, September 28 at 6:00 PM MDT (00:00 GMT 29-10-12)

A couple of notes:

??1. Be sure to check out the house rules, which are linked from the page of the game and included on a previous email.

??

2. In this game, you will (may?) rely on press to
communicate with other players?? - just forward me the message you want
sent, and I'll pass it on.

??3.
I'd encourage you to send preliminary orders in - you never know when
technology will let you down or you'll be caught without email access!

??

4. Any questions about the game or rules I'm happy to help - just drop me an email

---just keep swimming!

DC406: Winter 11 FINAL!!! - offdisc   (Sep 27, 2012, 1:28 pm)
Hi All,
OH BOY!  I claim Hunger as well.  Although I didn't follow Yom Kippor this year. Maybe I'll claim Drunk instead? But i didn't drink last night.  Tired?  That's a normal state of being.
So what caused me to miss the Leps orders?

GMAIL! That's it!

Actually, I labelled the orders "complete" when I processed them, instead of leaving off he label since Chris sent in 2 phases in one email.

The listed disbands are incorrect.

Leprechauns: Remove F MyrtleRemove F Ithin'Carthia(wc)Remove A Uuno

The actual disbands are:

Destroy Lub
Destroy Ith wc
Destroy Myr

So the error isn't as large as I first thought.  There should be a Lep Army in Uuno, but none in Lubrick.

New map will be released tonight or tomorrow AM.

Thanks,
Mike

In the meantime, We have 3 draw proposals to consider:

No.  Clear enough?
Smile

OK, seriosuly, no I will not change the rules mid-game. The rules are All Draws must be Unanimous -- voted YES by ALL surviving parties. A lack of vote is indicative of a NO vote. NVRs are separate from NMRs (ie -- you can NMR but still vote (it happens), you can NMR & NVR, and you can NVR but submit moves).

I'd tend to agree with Rolf, we get plenty of times between rounds, I think a NVR when accompanied by an NMR should just be a NULL vote personally (though that's obviously Hoffman's call). Rolf, my understanding is that the vote was not going to succeed no matter what, however.

Also, whichever one of you jokers put in the Dwarf solo request, I'd like to thank you for the vote of confidence but I think that one is a wee bit premature Wink

I'm gonna vote for it though, LOL...

Guys, just in case..   The last draw proposal failed only because of the gnomes not casting their ballot. Should we have NVR's again (no vote received), I plead to make our decision on the base of registered votes only - and not count an NVR as a "NO".

Whoever is against a draw should at least be as much involved in this game as to vote. He who doesn't even care to vote should not hinder us who still play to decide as we please.

Whoever is against a draw should at least be as much involved in this game as to vote. He who doesn't even care to vote should not hinder us who still play to decide as we please.

Betreff: DC406: Winter 11 FINAL!!!

Hi All,
And so we move into a new year, the 12th of this game. Such an odd age -- almost old enough to be a man, yet young enough to still chase the ice cream man. Who will be left standing tall at the end of the year? Who will drop their ice cream cone? Don't even think about picking it up, Momma is watching.

Now off you go to Google to figure out that reference.

In the meantime, We have 3 draw proposals to consider:

1)Dwarves solo win the rest survivor status
2)Ogres, Undead,  the rest survivor status

3) Ogres, Dwarves, Knights, the rest survivor status.

Vote along with your Spring moves. The Deadline for Spring 11 is Monday, October 1st (at) 5pm MST.

I'm in agreement that a NVR should not stall a draw vote.  If they've checked out to the point of not supplying moves or votes, its unlikely they really care one way or the other.

Also, whichever one of you jokers put in the Dwarf solo request, I'd like to thank you for the vote of confidence but I think that one is a wee bit premature Wink

I'm gonna vote for it though, LOL...

I'm in agreement that a NVR should not stall a draw vote.  If they've checked out to the point of not supplying moves or votes, its unlikely they really care one way or the other.

I'd tend to agree with Rolf, we get plenty of times between rounds, I think a NVR when accompanied by an NMR should just be a NULL vote personally (though that's obviously Hoffman's call). Rolf, my understanding is that the vote was not going to succeed no matter what, however.

We had 2 missing orders, surprisingly one was a BUILD. Oh, Undead, you worked so hard to survive.

Adjustments for Winter 11:

DC406: Winter 11 FINAL!!! (dc406) offdisc Sep 27, 01:28 pm
Hi All,

Thanks,
Mike

We are still looking for one more player in the Gunboat game. If you are interested, sign up! (don't reply to this post) This should be a fast game, one full year each week.

This game will accept full press (white, grey, black), you will just need to figure out what kind of press is really is!

Explore! Open position - daves   (Sep 25, 2012, 11:37 pm)
Hey all - sorry if this is out of place. I'm running a variant of Explore!, a game that is a mix of Diplomacy and Civilization. The variant originated on the Redscape website, but this game is being run purely by email, without a main host board.

The variant combines the game play of Diplomacy with several aspects of Civilization - upgraded units, wonders of the world and the "exploration" part of Civ.

The game begins anonymously, until you make contact with another player. Because of this, I can't explain a lot about the position, as some of the players in the game are also on this site. But it is not a mercy position. The position has value and could easily do well in the game.

The game has similarities to Diplomacy, but it is a unique game. I will help anyone who is new to the game until they are comfortable with the rules. And I can assure you, the variant gets fantastic reviews from almost anyone who plays it.

If interested, please send me an email at:

david . m . sullivan . 1 (at) gmail.com

Thanks!

As a former games reviewer, I know how tricky designing and developing a game can be. Hoo Boy! I have never envied the game designer, but I sure as hell respect the good ones. So many things can go wrong: are dice too unpredictable/predictable? Are the powers aligned evenly enough? Are the cards too complicated? Even the smallest issue can doom a game to the bottom of the reviewer's closet --- and the simplest games can end up being the most successful. Who doesn't grin when they see Connect4 sitting on a shelf? Imagine if the designer had added an 8th column, or even just laid it flat on a board instead of the cool "make it rain" emptying effect?

Congrats on your success Dirk!!! I know how hard you worked for it!
