dc423 fall 05 - catsfather   (May 10, 2012, 1:39 pm)
First things first, I got an Out of Office message from Turkey
suggesting they were off doing something interesting. I got no
orders, but I expect that's because real life took precedence. Even
with no orders, however, Turkey got off lightly with their army in
Ukraine being forced to disband.
No retreats, but...
France builds 2.
Germany builds 1.
Turkey builds 1.
...and...
Italy removes 2. Ouch.
As usual, check the results (I hate this joint move, retreat, build
thing) and if they're wrong then tell me.
Deadline for builds is 18:00 GMT on Friday, 11 May.

I'm missing some orders and the deadline is pretty close. If you've
not had a "received" from me ... ah, you know the rest.

I knew it!  I couldn't possibly get this out right at 8am.  I got pretty close tho, at 9:30...

Some pretty big swings here, as Austria and France go up a combined 5, while the only one to have to remove is England... due to an NMR.  Nwy and IRI will come off if not ordered otherwise.  Austria is spared from having to remove his last units, as Italy takes care of that for him.  Smile

NEXT!  3 sets of builds... due tomorrow / Friday 8am Central!

*These go back to Christine as usual*

Enjoy,

DC 420: Remember to vote - josephmcoffey   (May 10, 2012, 12:26 pm)
I figured that was Italy.  Not sure why Austria or Russia would include Italy.

And I'm not sure why Turkey would propose anything but the obvious conclusion of this game.

England apparently believes it has developed airships. I received this order: "F Den C A Tyr-Mun". While Tyr is not a good abbreviation (can refer to Tyrolia or the tyrrhenian sea), I felt Tyrolia was clearly intended by the army designation. However, it is an invalid move for three reasons. Denmark does not touch munich. It does not touch Tyrolia. And fleets in coastal provinces can not convoy, denmark being such a province. Just wanted to explain what's going on there.
------------------------------
As a further explanation, I play most of my Diplomacy on the Judges, and a lot of Judge Diplomacy games are NoPress/Gunboat, so Judge player have established a system of false Convoys and Supports to send signals and communicate with their opponents. In this case Den C Tyl-Mun means, "Hey Italy, grab some German Centers before Russia gets them all." Wink

I figured that was Italy.  Not sure why Austria or Russia would include Italy.

And I'm not sure why Turkey would propose anything but the obvious conclusion of this game.

Winter Blitz DC 424 Gamestart - untitled36   (May 10, 2012, 9:45 am)
*Italians Ferry Starving Austrians to Tunis for Supplies*
*"Worth it!" say Germans and English*
*Smyrna Contested, No Victor*

Hey all,

Italy generously contributes a center to austrian allies at the cost of his own units. England invests all his energy in ridding the motherland of germans, while germany happily takes Belgium uncontested. The Russians continue to spread across the map like a great white plague. They now have as many or more centers than any two other powers combined except Italy and Germany.

In other news, England apparently believes it has developed airships.

Build-wise, we have:
Austria: even (-ser, +Tun)
England: -1 (-Bel)
Germany: +1 (-Ber, +Bel, +disbanded yorkshire army)
Italy: -1 (-tun)
Russia: +2 (+bul, +ber)
Turkey: even (-bul, +ser)

See you tomorrow for this! I might have a moderator run the winter turn again, so be aware of that and make sure to cc the orders box. I'm going to be traveling tomorrow, so the moves might be very late if I run them. However, if everyone marks builds as final by this evening, I can run the turn later today. No pressure though, the official deadline is still 8:00 AM CST tomorrow unless I get builds from everyone marked final before then.

John

Enjoy,

I've always found Diplomacy to be very similar to Chess, although much more fun. Smack Talk, Multiple enemies, but the basics are the same: think three or more moves ahead, get your opponents to fall into your traps, and move tiny pieces around a board. Eventually though, some pieces are captured and removed from play.
And so we bid Adieu to the Barbarians, Rogues, and Wizards who join the Centaurs and Elves on the sidelines.  Good Game guys!

Quick reminder tomorrow is Thursday, and I am honor bound to attempt to keep a schedule at least somewhat as timely as Christine does all the time.  So moves in to me!

dc419 summer 1905 retreats - coryfucius   (May 09, 2012, 2:25 pm)
Yes, this is a little early, but I have to leave this afternoon and I'm not sure I can send this out otherwise. Russia retreats eastward to Ukraine, while Austria takes the obvious retreats to keep both armies on the board. Fall 1905 orders will be due on Friday 5/11 at 3pm Central (US) / 20:00 GMT, which is still on the modified schedule.
I discussed our timing issues with Garry, who recommended that we have the autumn/winter 1905 phase on Saturday.  We would then get back to the standard Blitz schedule of a Monday deadline for spring 1906. Cory ----- Summer 1905 retreats: Austria:
A Bulgaria - Serbia
A Greece -
Albania Russia:
A Galicia - Ukraine

DC406: New Pirate!!! (Old Faerie!!!) - jerome777   (May 09, 2012, 2:05 pm)
Avast me hearties!

It's a pleasure to say 'hello' to you all, now that Mike has ordered my predecessor to walk the plank and given me control of the Pirate kingdom.

I'll try and make contact with you all later this evening. In the meantime, please consider whatever your previous relationship with the Pirates to be reset - I'm looking forwards to talking with you all over a tot or two of rum, and seeing what kind of deals we might be able to put together.

And Chris - it's my pleasure. I know what a good player you are, and I'm really pleased you're able to continue in the game.

I apologize for the confusion folks.

My life has been very hectic.  But not so hectic that I would take a replacement while another major power was in Civil Disorder.

For those of you who have written and gone unanswered, I will try to find time soon.

And WELCOME Jerome!  Thanks for being so flexible.

As it turns out, Chris has found some time in his schedule to continue on with this game! Yeah! (Personally I think the back-stabbing and negotiations are a stress-release from his everyday world)

So, Jerome is staying with us, but as the Pirate replacement!!!  No more NMRs!!!

Oh, and to the single person who sent Jerome an email, it has been deleted unread. So if there were negotiations/strategies concerning the Faeries, they fell on deaf ears; however if it was simply a "Welcome", well please resend it!

Thanks all for understanding!  The website will be updated later tonight.

Chris, would you mind sending an email to Jerome to bring him up-to-date with your game history. Not that important... I'm sure everyone else will do the task for you. Wink

By the way, Chris, do you want to stay on the game Mailing List or should I remove you?

Thanks,

DC406: Fall 06 Retreats! - offdisc   (May 09, 2012, 11:11 am)
Hi All,
Let's keep this game moving.  I cannot fully adjudicate at work (no RealWorld install), but I do have MS Paint, so I worked up a new map to show the retreats.

Retreats for Fall 06:
Magicians: F Ske --> WSS
Trolls: F SFS --> WTH
Pirates: A NEM Disbands

Adjustments will come later, either much later when I get home, or a little while if I get enough done at work.  Feel free to figure out your adjustments on your own and send them to me.

Thanks,
Mike

Hi All,Jerome is now our new Pirate!  Ahoy!
Retreats for Fall 06:Magicians: F Skellington - WEST SEA OF SHADOWSPirates: A NeverPeak Mountains (NMR, *disbanded*)
Trolls: F SEA OF FALLEN STARS - WAY THE HECK
I've always found Diplomacy to be very similar to Chess, although much more fun. Smack Talk, Multiple enemies, but the basics are the same: think three or more moves ahead, get your opponents to fall into your traps, and move tiny pieces around a board. Eventually though, some pieces are captured and removed from play.
And so we bid Adieu to the Barbarians, Rogues, and Wizards who join the Centaurs and Elves on the sidelines.  Good Game guys!
