MESSAGE:
We officially say goodbye to Rene with his removals. He has requested to be removed from the distribution lists, but I've asked him to prepare an EOG statement for when the game is done.
Thanks again everyone for timely orders. Hopefully everyone has been negotiating since last week's deadline. My preference (and your requests are to stick with the quick deadlines. Just over three days (plus time served) for this Spring deadline, then a break for a couple days if there are any retreats. But if anyone would like to request that the deadline be next Monday, I will happily push it back. Only one person requesting will be necessary.
The reason for the longer timelines on the delayed deadlines is because I will be away from email mostly from 11/10 thru 11/14 and don't want to commit to a deadline that I might not be able to adjudicate for.
Lastly, the time change is coming next weekend. We'll keep the same deadline times US, but GMT will be changing.
DEADLINES:
Spring 1905 - Thursday November 3, 2011 at 21:00GMT (5pm EDT).

DC369 needs a new player for China!
We are currently engaged in a thrilling game of “Colonial Diplomacy” which is in danger of becoming lop-sided due to one of the players dropping out. I’ll be frank that he was not in a brilliant position and needs alliances to stay alive, but if you want to try out “Colonial Diplomacy” or enjoy it and want another go, we’ll be glad of someone to save the game. email: hapolley(at)yahoo.ca[Reply] |

This probably doesn't belong here, but I can't find any other way to mail DipWiki.
I registered there as a new user three days ago; I've had the validation e-mail, responded, and received a confirmation. But three days on the Log-In still tells me there's no user with my name.
Can anybody help?[Reply] |

Hey all,
I do take responsibility for not noticing or notifying Eric about the error sooner. I lost computer access over the weekend & and so didn't have an opportunity to look over the results and talk to him about it.
I do apologize for the inconvenience

Hey guys,
Interesting there. I believe that is a typo in the rules that needs fixing. "major turn" in any sense I've ever considered it - is spring and fall. "minor turns" are summer retreats, autumn retreats, and winter adjustments. Even the game manual defines them this way, those being just phases of the major turn - to the extent your'e not even supposed to diplome on the winter phase, you're just supposed to submit your builds. The intent there, albeit indicated wrongly, is that if a major turn passes, one wouldn't back up a spring or fall turn since these generally reveal the results of substantial negotiations.
As always, in the house rules is that the GM always has final say, so whatever Eric decides is fine w me.
I'll discuss w Garry but we'll probly tweak the rule later as a result of that being pointed out...

I also agree with replaying in this situation . Gareth does make a good point regarding the rule so that we're clear on what happens should this occur again .

cd 388 Fall 1908 Final Results from Germany - pieandmash (Oct 27, 2011, 4:29 am) |
Chris and I had an alliance at the start which was working very well, unfortunately he then supported Russia into warsaw, but repeatedly denied it, hence this broke our trust and i attacked him- it subsequently turned out to be a misorder by Chris (he meant to support Austria to Warsaw I recall). We very nearly patched it up but the damage was done.
France, well he was very busy and not focussed on the game, and consequently unreliable- As the Italian stabbed showed- it would have worked.

Viewpoints from Germany
Most of my communications were with England. I remember being stabbed by England during the first few years, then trying to mend the alliance, but he kept attacking me. I tried to work with France to destroy one of my armies to build a fleet to combat England's armada, but that move turned out to be against the rules. After having the rule book thrown at me, I kind of lost interest in the game. I saw Italy striving for the solo, and I had never seen Italy win a solo before, so I thought I would assist him. I tried attacking France, which failed miserably, then thought I should try and stop Italy but it was way too late for that.
This was actually my first game as Germany, though I have played 17 diplo games previously. I keep track of these things.
Chris

Thank you for getting orders in on time. Here are your results.
The war is over as Italy controls 18 centers for the solo win. Congrats Archer on a strong win. There was one retreat which I made automatically.
Thank you all for making GMing easy I hope that you all enjoyed the game. Again I apologize for the major error a few turns ago.
End of game statements are highly recommended. Send them to me in the next couple of days and I will post what I received. I know some prefer to just e-mail them to everyone so please do if that is what you prefer. I would be interested in the player perspective of the game.
Final map and .dpy are attached. Please check for errors.

Hi all,
I've not got a problem with re-doing winter and spring as I
think it will make the game more interesting.
However, since we're meant to be following the DC house rule, the
error should have stood:
'Any errors in adjudications must be brought to the attention of
the GM before the next major deadline (Spring, Fall, Winter) else
that error will stand.'
I'm only bringing this up in case there's an error in future
as I think we should follow the rule correctly from now on and
everyone should be aware of it.

I'm only bringing this up in case there's an error in future as I think we should follow the rule correctly from now on and everyone should be aware of it.

Here's what's going to happen:
I will not reveal or adjudicate the orders I just received for Spring 1902 and we will replay Winter 1901 and Spring 1902.
So we'll start with builds (Winter 1901).
You have 48 hours to confirm the builds you've submitted or resubmit build orders (or submit build orders for the first time in the cases of Austria and Italy). If I don't receive a confirmation in the next 48 hours (by 28 OCT 2 AM GMT), I will leave your builds as previously submitted. If I receive confirmations or changes prior to this deadline, I may send out an announcement of the builds earlier. From then, you'll have four days (unless anyone requires an extension) to submit new Spring 1902 orders. (I'll send notice of the deadline with the build results).
I sincerely regret and apologize for the confusion and the waste of time and energy this mistake and the redo may cause, but I believe it is clearly unfair for two players to be short units they should have been awarded, especially at this early point in the game.
While I do not anticipate any further GM mistakes during the game, please bring ANY issues with results to my attention as early as possible.

cd 388 Fall 1908 Final Results from Germany - cbend37 (Oct 26, 2011, 8:14 pm) |

Thank you for getting orders in on time.
Here are your results.
The war is over as Italy controls
18 centers for the solo win. Congrats Archer on a strong win. There was one
retreat which I made automatically.
Thank you all for making GMing easy I hope
that you all enjoyed the game. Again I apologize for the major error a few
turns ago.
End of game statements are highly recommended.
Send them to me in the next couple of days and I will post what I received. I
know some prefer to just e-mail them to everyone so please do if that is what
you prefer. I would be interested in the player perspective of the game.
Final map and .dpy are attached. Please
check for errors.

cd 388 Fall 1908 Final Results from Germany (dc388) pieandmash Oct 27, 04:29 am |

DC 373: Spring 1914 Retreat - AceRimmer (Oct 26, 2011, 6:58 pm) |
My apologies for the delay. Both Austria and Russia -- and me -- forgot about the deadline until yesterday.
Austria retreats his fleet to Venice. Russia disbands his army from StP.
I'm going to put Fall 1914 due next Tuesday, Nov. 2, at 2:00 CST.[Reply] |
DC 398, Spring 1901 - alwayshunted (Oct 26, 2011, 6:36 pm) |
Hi Group,
Well we're off. Nothing too unexpected for the first spring, although perhaps Austria or England might not think so. Both appear to be under attack. But of course appearances can be deceiving.
Thanks everyone for getting in those orders. No retreats needed obviously, so Fall 1901 will be due in one week, on Wednesday November 2, 16:00 Mountain Daylight Time.
Here is the adjudication:
---------------
Austria:
A Budapest - Serbia
F Trieste - Albania
A Vienna - Trieste
England:
F Edinburgh - Norwegian Sea
A Liverpool - Yorkshire
F London - North Sea
France:
F Brest - English Channel
A Marseilles - Spain
