20 hours to red line! Oceania DC508\SPRING/2007 Pr... - hapolley   (Nov 05, 2014, 11:57 pm)
Four sets short!  Have begun re-writing spell checker code about 200 lines to repair.  At my snail coding pace about a 3 day project.========================================================== Oceania DC508\SPRING/2007 Press!:==========================================================   6) Statement no. 4 is correct: Knowing another player in a gunboat game is a big advantage even without direct communication. GM: In my case, only if you have played with or against that player in a significant
way.   5)France to NZ: Please join me in the attempt to stop Australia, no use in attacking me and let Australia win.   4) The good thing with gunboat is that you don't know the player. And thereby not the players psychological profile. Is he a partner to the end, is he a stabbing type if you turn your back to him, is he revengeful to the end if you have crossed him or is he a labdog. Even if the two players don't communicate with one another they still know these facts.   3) France to all : Since this mistake has taken so much attention.I would like to clarify that I join Indonesia andcan promise you all I shall not contact him . Otherwise I wouldn't had brought all this into the attention of the GMin the first place.GM: in interest of game play, this is from France.    2) Japan/Marshall/NewZealand/USAUSAUSA - Indonesia: Why should I not play on? If you want a two-way, good luck, but I won't surrender until I'm gone, and I wonder if a stalemate is possible in this variant. So either propose a DIAS or show me that a 2-way is really a likely result. I think not! GM two cents: forming a stalemate line in this game is much harder than in other ones which is why I like running the game.    1) Nobody has ever won this variant but Japan.  Looks like our current fearless leaders want a draw and keep Japan's record intact.==========================================================

GM - Armies can move or support from one light blue island to the next so long as they are adjacent to a common sea!  They can not support sea units to hold only to move to a light blue Island that they could hop to.    In Oceania Armies on single Islands have no retreat!  Yes they can Island Hop but when dislodged they can not Hop for a retreat.  A very important rule to keep the  fleets as an important part of the game balance.    When an Auto retreat goes to same place as an actual retreat the actual retreat goes and the auto retreat is an OTB.  It is this way mostly because of the difficulty of programming it to be otherwise
and because having an auto retreat defeat a sent in retreat does not seem right.    GM - A 2 way draw between Indonesia and Australia fails with 3 YES and 2 NO! Australia/France successfully defends Tog and dislodges F TON, but is dislodged from control of WNZ by Zealand. As stu is double Island stu retreats to ntu which results in a unit removal for Australia! Indonesia creeps Eastward. Japan holds on without any hope of Build. USoA support to stu not needed by Marshall, USA must remove a unit thanks to Japan in hon. Zealand begins to force back the French with Australia looking on.

Oceania DC508HP\Winter/2006 RESULTS! - hapolley   (Nov 04, 2014, 10:14 am)
Indonesia has replaced Australia as the Boards superpower!

Next deadline is for Spring 2007 on Thursday NOV 6/2014 at 1800MT.

[Player: I find it very concerning that two player know each other.]GM: I agree which is why I CC last result to M Sims.  It is just about the worst error that can happen in a gunboat game.  Still one player has promised not to communicate with the other except by press, See 12.I did a cut and paste and for some reason perhaps the old cut and paste stayed in, got the wrong result. I did not notice this as I was working very fast to clean up previous error.  In life that is often why errors compound; so the battle can go on..

Indonesia to all: I understand your concerns. This was a mistake of the GM. But what shall we do? End the game. Why it is very interesting? Exchange players? Not a good idea because it changes the game. I can assure you that I will not contact France because it is against the sense of the game. It would be unfair if the game is changed so. It would take the fun away and I hope you will trust me that I do as I say.        GM: For game play reasons I am verifing this is from the Indonesian Player.     11) Japan/Marshall/NewZealand/USAUSAUSA - Indonesia: Why should I not play on? Revised: Oceania DC508HP\Fall/2006 Results! - hapolley   (Nov 03, 2014, 9:27 am)
===========================================================Oceania DC508HP\Fall/2006        Once again I did not pay close enough attention to the long names and messed up Indonesia orders by incorrectly entering the long names.  This will actually be of some help to me when I go to create the Adjudicator in Free Basic.  It will be an open source project.        Good news is it only affected unit positions and nothing else. So Teleport was too strong a word, legal move order screw up by GM would be better.        Bad news is email error resulted
in Indonesia and France knowing one another true names.  I ask that they continue to use press and not email one another.

Invitation to new 1648 game - charlesf   (Nov 03, 2014, 9:03 am)
Poul,

thanks for your kind words regarding 1648.

I regret how things went when we met previously. For my part, I was too heavy-handed in my anti-gunboating efforts. I've since learnt my lesson and have adopted a different approach. More thorough vetting up-front, no badgering players regarding their press levels in-game.

But I continue to ask players to CC me. It's invaluable for me as a designer in playtesting.

Once again I had trouble with the full names in part because I never inputed enough variations into my spell checker and have the spell checker eliminating SEA as unnecessary word.
WIS-WEM, CIS-NOM ordered!
F Wake Island Sea - Western Marshall Sea
F Caroline Islands Sea - Northeastern Micronesia Sea
I will fix the problems and output new results shortly.

it's a really exciting and well-constructed variant. I just can't accept having to cc you on every mail, and having you comment on the number of mails I send and read. If you remove that part of your playtesting, I will gladly play in this one.

48 hours till deadline, missing prelims from 4 players!Votes for: proposed 2 way draw between Indonesia and Australia!I will not say who voted how but will give the for/against result.
SU\2006          |  ===========================================================Australia        | F COS, A noa, A nou, F NTS, F SAS, A sci                   F SCO, A ssi, A stu, F TONFrance           | F ava, A kei, F KES, A tog, F WNZIndonesia        | F CIS, F nmi, A ryu, F SMS, F VOS, A wci                   F WIS, A wmi, F WMSJapan            | A hon, A mau, A midMarshall_Islands | A kir, F KIS, F TUS, A wakUsoa             | A pho, F PHS, F SHSZealand          | F cha, F chc, F ENZ===========================================================

More Oceania DC508\Fall/2006 Press! - hapolley   (Oct 31, 2014, 8:44 am)
========================================================[GM input error strikes!  I made an error in my entries for Indonesia] having a unit move to wake instead of Wake Island Sea, did not hit combine button in my spell checker. No affect on orders outside of Indonesia unit positions. So delete previous results and keep revised ones sent out.========================================================A 2 way draw between Indonesia and Australia is proposed! Please vote with your Fall orders.Outcome will be posted with Winter results.=========================================================== Oceania DC508\Fall/2006 Press!:==========================================================5) France to USA and Marshalls: The plan of the USA don`t works because of SAS-TUS. If we play KES-TON, PHS-COS,KIS-SAS,kir-stu or TUS-stu we have the maximal output. tog, ava and pho are safe and Marshalls has a 50% chance to win either stu or fij. Is that okay for you?4) France to NZ: I hope you see the signs==========================================================3) USA, USA, USA => Marshall: You cannot defend your islands against the Ozzies. Oh, but you know what I mean, there's just too many of them. We have to collaborate to push them back. There is a great way to do this in Fall: A kir - sci, A pho - stu, F PHS - pho, F TUS S U A pho - stu, F KIS - SAS. This way A is
guaranteed to lose a sc this year, unless F SMS - TUS. But I would be a fool to help her only rival for world domination...==========================================================2) Marshall Islands - USA USA USA: Nice to see the greater view, but as far as I'm concerned I'm defending my homelands. This should prevent annihilation of the Islands, that's my primal concern. We're not the
lamb that can be sacrificed for the greater good.1) Marshall Islands - Anonymous (Indonesia?USA?): The Marshall Plan is to win. Or to be an annoyance to the countries who try to prevent it. USA USA USA in this case. That this favours other countries, well, that's just Oceanic life isn't it?==========================================================GM - Armies can move or support from one light blue island to the next so long as they are adjacent to a common sea!  They can not support sea units to hold only to move to a light blue Island that they could hop to. France has successful season with no orders cut or blocked. Indonesia attempts to sea HOP, only armies can do that. Japan can not replace loss of unit in wci, but takes USoA home hon SC. Marshall attempt to support PHS-SAS not taken by USoA. Nice thing about sea units is they can retreat so F Hon lives to fight another day. Zealand
