Subject: dc380 fall 1902 results!
Once again, Germany and Russia NMR. Both Austria and Turkey take advantage of the situation this time, as Austria pushes into Munich and Turkey grabs Sevastopol.
Elsewhere, England sails unopposed into Norway and Holland, while France convoys into the Italian heartland. Austria advances into the eastern Balkans, but leaves open a retreat route for a dislodged Turkish army.
We will have Autumn 1902 retreats:
The German army in Munich may retreat to Burgundy, Ruhr, Silesia, or OTB.
The Russian fleet in Sevastopol may retreat to Armenia or OTB.
The Turkish army in Bulgaria may retreat to Serbia or OTB.
Winter 1902 adjustments will be as follows - please note that two powers' adjustments are affected by an autumn retreat order:
Austria: build 3 (or build 2 if Turkey retreats to Serbia)
England: build 3
France: build 1
Germany: remove 1 (no change if retreat OTB)
Russia: remove 1 (no change if retreat OTB)
Turkey: remove 1 (no change if Turkey retreats to Serbia)
Since both the autumn retreats and winter adjustments are due at the same time, conditional adjustment orders are acceptable - but only if they are contingent on an autumn retreat, not other winter adjustments. For example, it would be OK for France to say "if Turkey retreats to Serbia, build a fleet in Brest, otherwise build an army in Paris". It would NOT be acceptable for France to say "if Austria builds a fleet in Trieste, build a fleet in Brest, otherwise build an army in Paris".
Both the Autumn 1902 retreats and the Winter 1902 adjustments are due tomorrow, Friday 4/8 at 3pm Central (US) / 21:00 GMT. However, I will not be available, so please send your orders to the tournament directors Garry Bledsoe and Mike Sims, as well as the Orders box. I will be back Monday for Spring 1903.
Thanks, everyone!

dc380 fall 1902 reminder! - coryfucius (Apr 07, 2011, 3:30 pm) |
Don't forget, fall 1902 orders were due about 30 minutes ago... I am still missing orders from at least one player. I will be stuck in a legislative hearing that is supposed to start at 4:00 - which means it could start over an hour later - and depending on how things go, I may not be able to send results until sometime after 7:00 (all times US Central). So please take advantage of this bit of grace period and make sure you submit your orders. If you have not received a confirmation e-mail from me, then I don't have your orders.
Thanks, everyone!

Diplomats,
The proposal fails, and we battle on. This turn however, we will have to say goodbye to two combatants: Italy and Russia finally succumb to the might of the Turkish Empire. Thank you for playing, and submitting orders up until the bitter end, Babak and Gareth. Good luck to you in the next round, or on other games here at Diplomaticcorp.
We also have Turkey ticking in at 17. Close but no cigar. I have a couple of new proposals on the table - if you want any others on the table bring them in with the Winter orders. I'll make all proposal public tomorrow.

GM Notes:
Since this turn is a combination of Retreats and Builds, you may
submit Winter Orders (Build/Remove Orders) based upon how Italy or
France might retreat/disband.
For instance, Germany could submit the following:
If France retreats to Picardy, Build an Army in Berlin, otherwise
Build a Fleet in Berlin.
These conditional builds/removals can only be based upon the retreat
phase, not someones builds.
Also these doubled up phases can be costly if missed, because the
default a retreat is a disband, and the default for a build is to
postpone build. So, if France say, doesn't get his orders in, he
would lose Picardy and not be able to build. Hint to France...

Well everyone, it was a stimulating game at the beginning, but I
ceased to be a major player a long time ago and definitely lived
past my sell-by date.
Thanks to Fredrik for GM'ing the game, and to Warren, Dan and Babak
for an intense and thrilling opening. Best of luck to the four
remaining.

Well everyone, it was a stimulating game at the beginning, but I
ceased to be a major player a long time ago and definitely lived
past my sell-by date.
Thanks to Fredrik for GM'ing the game, and to Warren, Dan and Babak
for an intense and thrilling opening. Best of luck to the four
remaining.

will have to say goodbye to two combatants: Italy and Russia
finally succumb to the might of the Turkish Empire. Thank you
for playing, and submitting orders up until the bitter end,
Babak and Gareth. Good luck to you in the next round, or on
other games here at Diplomaticcorp.
We also have Turkey ticking in at 17. Close but no cigar. I
have a couple of new proposals on the table - if you want any
others on the table bring them in with the Winter orders. I'll
make all proposal public tomorrow.

DC 373: F1902 - AceRimmer (Apr 07, 2011, 11:10 am) |
Continuing on the theme of negotiations, plans, and early diplomacy:
???Fere libenter homines id quod volunt credunt???
- Julius Caesar
Also, one of our players has contributed:
"Be civil to all; sociable to many; familiar with few; friend to one; enemy to none"
- Benjamin Franklin. (who obviously never played a game of Diplomacy in his life)
And finally, I would like to remind you that your plans are fruitless ??? in the US, it has been popular in recent years to paraphrase Napoleon that no plan survives its first contact with the enemy ??? your plans are fruitless except in how well you can carry them through. And in Diplomacy, that absolutely requires good, strong communication. I get the impression that some of you are letting the communication slip. Of course, you are free to do so, but I wouldn???t advise it.
There are no retreats, which is not to say there are no dislodgements. The Russian army in Denmark is obliterated. And Sweden falls to the Brits (who nonetheless support the Russian army in Denmark???). All in all, events in the north are not too friendly to Russia.
The EFG triangle gets spicier, too. Belgium has a master. Wales has visitors, but will they stay for long?
Turkey fends off invaders. Kind of a bummer, eh, Tom? And Austria??? Austria! Seems to think he belongs in Germany, ???cuz that???s where half his units are headed.
Folks, 1903 looks full of promise. But first, let???s have adjustments. Builds are due *tomorrow* at 10:00 a.m. from Austria, England, and Germany:
Austria: Supp 6 Unit 5 Build 1
England: Supp 5 Unit 4 Build 1
France: Supp 5 Unit 5 Build 0

There's a deadline approaching. As usual, if you've not had a
"received" email from me then it's possible I've missed your orders.
Send them again.

As I type, it's less than 30 - minutes to the deadline. However, it's
probable that I won't be online from now until the early hours of 12
April. I've passed all the received orders on to Mike (who has access
to copy email address) so that, should he wish, he can adjudicate and
publish the results at the deadline. If he's happy to wait then I'll
publish the spring results within 12 hours.
I'm sure everyone will understand that real life doesn't work to clockwork.

Those of us in Britain: please remember that you currently only need
to put an X next to your choice in the election and referendum.
Actually, wouldn't a Diplomacy based version of PR be quite
interesting? At least then the candidates would actually talk to us
... and be honest after the backstab.

Extra bit: it seems that two sets of orders have been sent to me, but
haven't arrived. If anyone has sent orders, but not had a "received" then
would you let me know when you sent them by emailing
hamish.williams(at)murraybeith.co.uk ... and send the orders again.
Thanks.

Diplomats,
Dorian (France) did not NMR last season. I'm having some trouble receiving his mail, but we're working on getting it solved. His orders did not change anything (he did a mutual support of his units).
I have public votes from the following nations on the upcoming vote:
Germany
England
France
Remember that any nation can change its public vote to a private one without anyone else being the wiser.
Next turn: Fall 1913 Movement and votes.
Next Deadline: Thursday 7th of April 2011, 18:00 GMT (6PM).
