Mike,
I'm sorry you're upset about the current state of the game. I wouldn't think you'd mind Ross proxying his units to me while he is tied up in real life, as you asked Lynn to do the same favor for you when you were out of pocket earlier in the game. I have done my best to order as I think Ross would have done. I didn't even tell Matt that I was in control of Ross's units until I needed his support into Treva.
As for me and Matt's alliance, I admit we have been pretty carebear about it. But not egregiously so. We both take pains to keep stab defenses in place, and we both have kept diplomatic channels open with the other players. Unfortunately, Matt's alliance with you crumbled when you made a provocative build without due warning while at the same time leaving a gap in your defenses. And Lynn keeps forcing me to take his centers by leaving them wide open. Meanwhile, Matt has been a dutiful correspondent while you have
been often absent and, when present, unresponsive. And of course Lynn has all the diplomatic skills of a skunk with hemorrhoids.
Again, I'm sorry you're frustrated with the game. I invite you to air your grievances in more detail as I'm always trying to be a better player and I know I have much to learn.
Chris

This special holiday edition of your Ancient World brings plenty of strife, lots of failed orders, and dislodgements all across the board. Hope you???re all enjoying the holiday cheer???
2 retreats!
Carthaginian F Treva can retreat to Mare Suevieum or O.Germanicus or Scandia.
Roman A Genua can retreat to Helvetii.
I just nudged them to Scandia and Helvetii, to make the builds easier. If Carthage prefers the Mare Suev or O.Ger, he???s welcome to amend w the winter turn by the winter deadline.
Seems like Germania and Rome are on Santa???s naughty list, and not only get coal for Christmas, but they owe up some units. Persia is on the good list w a unit to build, and Macedonia, well, we don???t know what he???s up to w jolly ole??? Santa to get the big +2. But good job nonetheless!
Germania: Remove 1
Macedonia: Build 2
Persia: Build 1

Want to squeak in builds this holiday? How about by Monday / 27th, or I???ll send out whenever I get a set of 4. But being the holidays, I won???t NMR anyone if you???re late for this one.

It's not a grievance but rather a statement that Lynn has concurred with that there is very little actualll dipping going on and the game has seemed to have lost its momentum.. exept for a litte missive here and there the fun of diploming seems to be absent, we havent seen much scheming at all for a few years! and no sign that anything will change. it bogged down very quickly into a war game rather than a game of diplomacy. and i do not see any change to that.

DC339: Rome's Resignation (dc339) hancockfc Dec 24, 10:21 am |
Greetings,
I take offense to Lockheardt's remarks but I will forebear giving the audience my assessment of his personality. I propose a 2WD vote in favor of GP for the current (winter) season. I assume that if Persia has Germania's proxy that he can vote for Germania. I would ask Mike N. to remain and simply order his units to hold or disband as appropriate while casting his draw vote. Now that Persia is ordering for three, I see no reason to place any further substantive orders either.
Lynn

Mike,
I'm sorry you're upset about the current state of the game.
Unfortunately, Matt's alliance with you crumbled when you made a provocative build without due warning while at the same time leaving a gap in your
defenses. And Lynn keeps forcing me to take his centers by leaving
them wide open. Meanwhile, Matt has been a dutiful correspondent while you have been often absent and, when present, unresponsive. And of course Lynn has all the diplomatic skills of a skunk with hemorrhoids.
Again, I'm sorry you're frustrated with the game. I invite you to air your grievances in more detail as I'm always trying to be a better player and I know I have much to learn.

Carthage: Could pull the retreat and be +1 instead.
Want to squeak in builds this holiday? How about by Monday / 27th, or I???ll send out whenever I get a set of 4. But being the holidays, I won???t NMR anyone if you???re late for this one.
Enjoy, and Have a great Christmas,

Mike,
Diplomacy always seems to trail off at the end of a game, which is why I enjoy the beginning of a game more than the end stages.
But I'm having trouble understanding your lament in this instance. When you returned to the game after your leave of absence, you didn't drop me a message saying you were back. I had to send you an email to find out you were back in the game.
Then when I did send you an email offering to resume negotiations, you said you had to study the board before you could reply. But you failed to write back.
When Lynn took Sardinia, I sent you an email asking about the stab. You wrote me a one word answer. And the only reason you know that I'm controlling Ross's units is because I told you in case you wanted to coordinate orders with Germania, Persia, or both. Again, no reply from you.
I'm not complaining, mind you. I'm just confused as to why you are dissatisfied enough with the level of diplomacy to quit the game, but not enough to actually conduct any.
As for Lynn, he's obviously a talented player and a proficient enough diplomat to forge a very effective alliance with you. But I need to be entertained, and Lynn is way more entertaining when he's mad. So I say things like, "Lynn has all the charm of a bullfrog with halitosis." And then he huffs and puffs and I giggle and take another center from him.
It's all in the name of fun.
As for draws, an MCP 3-way is the most logical. I'm happy to vote for that. I'm also happy to vote for a DIAS draw. It's the journey, not the destination as they say.
Chris
P.S. Hey, it's Justin! He has my vote for the most dedicated player in this game. He hasn't stopped fighting and he's pursued every diplomatic channel open to him. An impressive effort in a difficult position.

It's not a grievance but rather a statement that Lynn has concurred with that there is very little actualll dipping going on and the game has seemed to have lost its momentum.. exept for a litte missive here and there the fun of diploming seems to be absent, we havent seen much scheming at all for a few years! and no sign that anything will change. it bogged down very quickly into a war game rather than a game of diplomacy. and i do not see any change to that.

dc305 revisited! - FuzzyLogic (Dec 24, 2010, 12:04 am) |
Hey all,
So far I’ve heard from 4 of the 5. Without the 5th tho, we don’t have a game. Also being the holidays and all, ppl maybe not on their email, I don’t want to make any quick decisions since the game sat for a bit anyways. So I’ll let it go till Jan. If no reply from the missing player, I’m just going to call it a 4-way among those who replied. That seems to be agreeable to all. If the 5th does show up tho then it’d be game on.
Thanks, hope all have a great Christmas!

Only heard from 3 of the 5! Still have a few days to go to let a week pass, so let's hopefully get word from the other two by next Wed 12/22 at the latest!
-mike
Hey folks,
I don't know who out there thinks the Earth is round... but every once in a blue moon, we to have that game that seems to fall off the edge of existence... possibly into another world... maybe it's related to the location of all my left socks, or maybe it's where the tooth fairy sticks all her teeth (what does she do w those anyways?) but nonetheless where once there was a game, sometimes there seems to be none... Well it's time to lift that illusion as we revisit dc305!
This game - once led by the almighty Kyle - who seems to have found a calling in life that takes him far from here... is lost no more. It is time to move forward.
So I present to you now --- wait for it ---
-me-
<applause>
<cheer>
<dancing girls>
No really. I'm what you got. Is it Christmas? No - better. A GM that is here to carry this game to completion. And believe me when I do say that I run a pretty tight ship.
So I offer you now to all step forth! Our 5 players of the 305. Confirm you are in this game!
England - Matthew!
France - Jenn!
Germany - Buck!
Russia - Ponk!
Turkey - Andrew!
With Austria and Italy in Civil Disorder.
What do you all want to do w this game? Some ideas...
1) Play it out
2) Call it and end it a 5-way draw
If you wish to vote for 1 or 2, you must agree to abide by whichever receives majority vote!
If you do not wish to vote for 1 or 2, you can settle for being removed from the game, the vote, etc. Get a CD, and be done w it.
If you don't reply at all, I'll wait up to a week or so and then just remove you.
Hopefully we can get a unanimous, or at least a strong preference, from all 5.
So I present to you a clear option to either play it out or call it honorably! Next step is up to you... Talk it out amongst yourselves and send me your preference, I'll tally them up and get back to you.
Map is attached. Current turn is Fall 03.
Thanks!
-mike
PS - My apologies for not noticing the game was stagnated sooner.

Vote is unanimous 4 of 4, we have a Persian victory here!
Congrats to John, the new intern in the "I soloed my first game at dc" club. A tough place to get into, since we all only get one shot at a first game.
Ya know this game seemed to have its challenges, perhaps some newer players for a variant, whereas variants tend to more often draw some regulars instead. And then around mid-game, I got hit pretty hard in real life and I ran a few turns a few days late, and that seemed to be a drag on the momentum.
If I have any advice for y'all going forward, *turn in prelims*. There were so many turns when I was short a set of orders or two. Just pick something - anything - when you get the results, and turn them in, then revise as the turn goes along. It really helps to keep the game moving.
Other than that, let's see. so far this game has been played twice, and it's ended in a solo both times. Very rare! What is it about this map that makes it so solo-prone? Once for Sparta and once for Persia now. See the history.
http://www.diplomaticcorp.com/country_stats.php?map=Aegean&chart=Column3D
EGS's (End-Game-Statements) would be appreciated from all! Any thoughts on the variant? The game? Anything else?
I'm pretty happy to wrap it up, since I'll have my hands full w the upcoming Winter Blitz tournament. If you're not already in, be sure to check it out. This is the first year we've had a sponsor!
Enjoy, and see you next game!

Hey all,
Let’s not forget what we’re doin here… the Draw Props are all great and I’ll try to make heads & tails of them with the winter results, which will be taken as proposals for spring…
One turn… draw is proposed.
Next turn… draw is voted on. If any draw passes, game is over. If all draws fail, moves are processed as submitted.
So be sure to get me those builds! I’ll set a firm deadline of Tuesday 3pm.
Enjoy!

What? No way.
He only has 14. What's needed - 18? And he has unimpeded access to Asia Minor, and a whomping majority on the mainland? Holy tomatoes Batman.
Yeah it's not surprising Laconia is voting against the draws.
But, you all heard it, he's not trying to win, so I think we should all trust Scott. It's Christmas right?
Besides. I don't think Scott even has it in him to go for the solo. He says he won't. Oh wait. I forgot again. This is Scott, the guy w only *the* best solo percentage in the history of diplomaticcorp. 4 solos out of 8 games completed. Are we seriously going to have him go above 50%? That would be insane. But whatever y'all want. Trust me Penner, he won't stab you. He's in it for the Draw.
Just look how sincere he is when he denies all this.
Oh and happy holidays, even to Scott.

Just look how sincere he is when he denies all this.
Oh and happy holidays, even to Scott.

I'm ready to forget the past for anyone that wants to work with me to stop this.
Let me know.

Well... for one, he needs 20 for the solo. As for the rest of what was said... it's not like I don't have that in mind. I realize just as well as anyone else that he could attack me now. We'll see what happens.

Ok folks here we go!
The only race not requested by anyone... was... The Magicians. Who go to one of the lucky "give me what's left" players.
Of which, there were only two!
The other unpopular ones were the Barbarians and Undead, which only made one list each.
The most requested? Well the Dwarves are no surprise, but we had a tie... with the Leprechauns! I found that interesting. Those two made 8 lists, including being the first choice on 4. The Ogres and Dwarves were tied for the most popular 1st pick, being the first pick for 3 people each.
All the rest not noted above made 4, 5, or 6 lists, so pretty balanced for the rest of them.
Now on to our lineup! It wasn't easy, but everyone got one of their top 3 picks. 9 got their top 1. 3 got their 2nd. 5 got their 3rd. 2 had no pref.

A good guess, but no. The Elves, along w the Leprechauns, are by far the worst performers in Haven history. Rounding out a performance score of 0 (zero!) they have never even survived to the end, getting eliminated in all three games to date:

Subject: (DC 326) Gumball - Spring 1917 Results
Hi Players,
Feliz Navidad, Joyeux Noel, Kurisumasu Omedetoo Gozaimasu, and Merry Christmas!
Before we get to the results, I have wondrous news that I'm heralding far and wide this Christmas Eve Eve Eve. I'm done with my wrapping! It's a true Christmas miracle! Usually I'm still wrapping when Santa is coming down the chimney. But this year, it was early to shop (Amazon, I love you!), early to wrap, and now I'm just cruisin' into the holiday. No last minute shopping. Nothing to put together. Man, it's all egg nog and cookies for me now!
And who will have a Happy Holiday season in Gumball Land? Let's see:
. The Archduke has just accomplished what Napoleon
never could. They're now singing Edelweiss in Moscow. (Well, maybe not, but they're definitely looking oh-so wholesomely cheerful.)
. The Russians, no dummies they, quit the capital just before the Austrians arrived. Forget this! Let's enjoy beach season in the Gulf of Bothnia. Mmmm, baby. Refreshing!
. Germany (east) runs towards/away from Austria. Berlin is safe, and the rubber tanks rebound from Galicia.
. Germany (northwest) reestablishes their very threatening posture towards Scotland, but they had better watch their backs now that the Russians are in Scandinavia.
. Germany (low countries) sits there. Again. I think those guys are too drunk to move.
. England keeps hold of Scotland for one more season, and keeps her hopes up thanks to the rambunctious Russians. Still a tough spot, but who knows what will happen with F/G trying to coordinate. We've
seen that less-than-efficient pairing before, haven't we?
. France takes Wales (Yea, victory!) but then has to wonder whether leaving London empty was a good idea.
. Things are looking a little dicier in bouillabaisse territory, as the French army in Marseilles is unceremoniously booted out by the eager Italian forces from Piedmont. This could be tres important, n'est pas, but all is not lost. Could that new black army in Piedmont be the white knight come to save the day?
Tune in again next week, folks, when we'll learn the answer to that question and many more. Here... on your 24-hour Gumball Gunboat Diplomacy Channel!
RETREATS: English army Wales only has one retreat -- to Yorkshire. If the king would rather disband the army, he has only to tell me so and it will happen. France, on the other hand, has a choice. A Marseilles may retreat to Burgundy, Gascony or OTB.
Pick one and let me know, Monsieur.
NEXT DEADLINE: The French retreat is due ASAP. If I don't get it by 8:00 p.m. tomorrow, the army comes off the board! After that, it seems that everyone was okay with our usual Wednesday deadline. That means Fall 1917 is due Wednesday, December 29, at 8:00 p.m. EST.
I'll be on vacation next week, hanging around the house, so if everyone gets in early I'll adjudicate early. Remember, you don't HAVE to wait until the day before. A couple of you in particular don't have all that much thinking to do (no offense).
Merry Christmas to all, and to all a good night!
Santa Chris

(DC 326) Gumball - Spring 1917 Results - Corrino (Dec 22, 2010, 9:02 pm) |
Hi Players,
Feliz Navidad, Joyeux Noel, Kurisumasu Omedetoo Gozaimasu, and Merry Christmas!
