European Political Map Altered After Fall 1901 Campaign; New Units to Be Built by Winter

Blake Pynnonen

The military theatre that took place over the last season has made major changes to Europe's political map; most territories were seized without conflict, however Greece and Belgium were won with blood and guts - Greece going to Austria-Hungary in a contest over Turkey, and Belgium going to no one after a stalemate between an English-French coalition and a coordinated attack by German troops. The new map can be seen in the attachment.

In the last year, many of the region's rulers have manage to capture supply centers which will enable them to build new units for use in the Spring 1902 campaign. None of the rulers have yet lost supply centers, leaving only growth in the region's military units, with Germany gaining two units, England one, France two, Italy two, Austria-Hungary one, Turkey one, and Russia two. These units may be built any of the empty supply centers which the country already occupies (in the new map). The units will be built this winter, and the Gazette will be informed of the builds by this Sunday, midnight. These builds are to be done without communication to the other rulers. The deadline for Spring 1902 orders will be a week from this Sunday, at midnight. Any issues with this edition of the Gazette must be contested within 24 hours.

Hey folks,

And we are on our way....  Nothing too outrageous in the first spring season. Some not unexpected bounces in Galicia and the Black Sea, but Austria has, I suspect, an unwelcome guest in Trieste.

Here is the adj.:

There you have it. Check to make sure I got your orders right; I do make mistakes on occasion.  Maps are attached. Have fun.

DC344: Spring 1937 Moves - charlesf   (Oct 29, 2010, 2:27 pm)
Hi guys,

I am glad we're now back on track. And with quite an
eventful turn!

For starters, some might think hell has frozen over. For Franco's
Nationalists have supported the Republican army into Portugal! I
suppose the two camps have formed some sort of "government of
national unity". Incidentally, I purposefully did not add a rule
clause preventing such cooperation. In my estimation it will be
quite a rare event and - if it comes to pass - presents a
perfectly plausible scenario. So I felt it inappropriate to
curtail the players' freedom with a heavy-handed rule.

Further North, the previously moribund French Republic has set her
forces in motion and invaded the Rhineland in a replay of the
French occupation of the Ruhrgebiet in 1923. Quo vadis,
Monsieur-le-Pr?sident...?

Much as France has moved eastwards, so have - for the most part -
Germany, Italy and Turkey. And the lesser powers have suffered
from some bloodletting as six armies in the field of theirs were
comprehensively beaten. Quite a change of pace compared to Spring
'36. A year ago merely two minor powers had to bite the dust.

We have some player press again, always something we GMs are
grateful for!

Since there are no pending retreats, we directly move on to Fall
1937. Prelims on Monday 6 PM CET, please.

Happy dipping,

Charles

DC 341: Fall 1903 - AceRimmer   (Oct 29, 2010, 9:10 am)
Winter 1903 is due Monday, October 29 at 10:00 a.m. CST.

Retreats:

None. Not even a dislodge-disband. The result?

Last season, I wrote of the West: ???The minor re-shufflings should make the Fall active enough.??? Boy, was I wrong. Fall 1903 in the West was dull. Not a single English, French, or German unit moved. Nor did the Russian units in Scandinavia. Bupkis. This Winter, England will have to scrap a unit while Russia will do quite the opposite. Perhaps then things in the West will shift.

In the East, Austria???s units were like sheep whose shepherd has been struck down. They were scattered. Italian and Russian units quickly advanced to close the gap.

Thus, the table is set for Winter. Lots of adjustments. Everybody except France has something to do:

Austria: Supp 2 Unit 4 Remove 2
England: Supp 3 Unit 4 Remove 1
France: Supp 6 Unit 6 Build 0
Germany: Supp 6 Unit 5 Build 1

Nothing witty here. Trying to get this finished before getting on a plane for honeymoon. Sadly we say farewell to Germany. Thanks for sticking it out until the end.

One retreat needed: A Ven can go to Apu, Pie or OTB. I need that at our next deadline which is delayed for about 10 days due to my honeymoon. I need that retreat by Thursday the 29th at 6pm CST.

We will move to Winter then.

Hi Players,

Not feeling very clever this evening.  It has been/is still a long week for me.  How about I just stick to the facts for a change?

The AFG Draw Proposal FAILS, with 5 YEA votes and 2 NAY votes.  I won't tell you how each nation voted, but feel free to speculate.  It is part of the fun.

ACTION:
Some.  No dots changed hands, but there was some maneuvering.  See orders & results below.

RETREATS:
Russian A Galicia auto-retreated to Ukraine.  The Tsar may choose to retreat OTB instead.  Let me know.
Italian F Mid-Atlantic Ocean can retreat to North Atlantic Ocean or Brest or OTB.

NEXT DEADLINE:  Italian retreat is due Friday, October 29, at 8:00 p.m. Eastern US time.  If no retreat is
received, the unit will be disbanded.

Cheers,
Chris

We had a brief delay due to a late retreat order.
The Itean fleet in London retreats to the North Sea.
The DRE army in Marseilles disbands.
The Dulcerian army in Rumania disbands.
Winter adjustments are still due tomorrow (Friday) at 3:00 CST / 20:00 GMT. I will update the maps when I arrive at work in the morning.
Spring 1902 should be Wednesday at the usual time.

By the way, we don't vote on deadlines in my games! I simply moved to Friday because a] I made a mistake in my haste before getting out of the country and b] Friday was my intent.

Let's not think that we have consensus deadlines for the future! That isn't how my games roll. I apologize for both the confusion and the delay.

My wife says I can get back to Diplomacy now. Smile

Hey Garry (and anyone else who might be listening),

Did you mean Thursday the 28th, or Friday the 29th?

If it makes no difference to you, I vote for Friday.  I'm traveling the next couple of days and will (as usual when there is a long delay) be trying to do 2 weeks worth of dipping at the last minute.

Players - The suggestion box is open.  Submit your best set of Spanish orders and you could win a valuable prize if your moves are chosen in our random drawing!  (Please note that submissions that come attached to money are always more likely to be selected from the hat.)

Cheers,
Chris

All,
Thanks for the patience and well wishes. Less fun commentary this time because I literally am trying to get this done before I have to fly out in the morn.

Two retreats both with only one option: F Gascony retreats to Bay of Biscayne and A Catalonia retreats to Estremedura. Both of these have an OTB option that can be taken if you choose. If so, please reply to all as such. Otherwise it is assumed the retreat taken was acceptable and we move to Fall03. We will resume with Fall03 in a few weeks. Deadline Thursday the 29th at 6pm CST.

Enjoy.
