A note - DrSwordopolis (Jun 11, 2010, 12:36 am) |
Hey there,
Since now a couple players have mentioned it to me, I'm going to make my answer to their question public just to clear things up. Yes, I realized my diplomatic output as disappeared after a couple days of diplomatic frenzy at game start. No, that doesn't mean I'm ignoring you in favour of talking only to your neighbours on how to carve you up! I've simply had all my Diplomacy energy taken up instead by a different game I was playing, in a very unique situation, but that obligation is now gone and I can cease my DC330-related procrastination in favour of once again strengthening my friendship with the other nations of Europe.
All of you can expect to hear from me individually in the near future.

I guess only the GM is allowed to miss deadlines.
Sorry, I finally landed a job doing engineering and production
work at a local TV station and my shift runs 3:30 to midnight.
To say I'm disappointed in how the turn went would be an understatement.
It would certainly be more palatable if Germany were at least TRYING to
play the game.

GM???s remarks:
An interesting situation in that no supplies change hands so we go directly to the Spring season. I checked this a couple of times to try to understand why Realpolitik wasn???t providing for a Winter season. But, it is what occurred.
I also checked a couple of different ways to ensure that France has in fact NMR???ed. I guess Scott figured Russia would put an end to this game. Not true, we continue on. I hope we will hear from Scott shortly.
Congratulations to all the survivors to making it into year 12 of Round 2, Winter Blitz 2010!

DC317; GM's Back - dipknight (Jun 10, 2010, 8:38 pm) |
Sorry about that guys.
Turns out that while the Queen Marry was a Top of the Line Cruise ship in its day (launched in the early 1930's), its not extremely capable of providing modern day conveniences like the Internet or Cellphone service (despite advertising otherwise). My experience in trying to obtain those modern conveniences is quite the story and I will be happy to share it if you are interested. But, I know a couple of you are more interested in getting the Adjudication . . . sooner rather than later. Adjudication to follow shortly.
Thanks,

dc330: Sp36 Prelims due in ~20 hours! - dknemeyer (Jun 10, 2010, 8:29 pm) |
Hi Everyone,
A friendly reminder that your preliminary orders are due by tomorrow
(Friday), 5 PM ET. If you send in prelims I will review them fully and
ask for clarification of any ambiguities or seeming mistakes. Any
orders sent after that will be processed literally and precisely, even
if seemingly "obvious"! So if you don't take advantage of the prelims
be extra sure to review your final orders carefully!
Your full Spring 1936 order deadline is Tuesday June 15, 5 PM ET.
Please be aware I will be on a business trip next week, so my first
adjudication may not be as quick as should prove typical. The hotel
Internet allowing I will certainly be processing the orders before bed
that day.
Have a nice weekend everyone.

Thank you so much Nick! An extremely gracious act of kindness on your part! I shall do my best to uphold the high morals you have brought to the Kingdom of Austria.
And Thanks to the rest of you for yur kind words of support this past week. It meant a lot to hear encouragement from you.
Lastly, thanks to Charles for allowing this exchange to occur. The Dip community needs more GMs who although sometimes rigid with their rules , also can be flexible and bend with the times.
Now, back to the game at hand!

Hey all,
I enjoyed my extremely short-lived time as Archduke, but abdicating seemed like the right call. Best of luck to Mike in improving Austria's position, especially in dealing with a retreat order unlike the one he would have made.
I'm sure I'll play again with many of you in the future.

2010/6/10 Charles Féaux de la Croix <charlesf(at)web.de>
Hi guys,
much as Nick was looking forward to playing out his
recently assumed position as Archduke, he - on his own initiative and without
any encouragement of mine - selflessly chose to offer Mike his
former position.
Under those circumstances I see no reason why I
ought to object to Mike's return and hence welcome him back to the game
with immediate effect.
My understanding is that we all welcome a
generally more lenient policy. This way we will have also arrived at it in
this particular case, albeit by a rather circuitous route.
Nick will thus have served as a de facto temporary
replacement and I thank him for his constructive role in all of this. As
Nick has expressed an interest in instead playing in a later 1648 game I might
run, I shall then offer him as a small thankyou first choice among the
nine great powers.
I've now rescheduled the Spring 1660 Moves for
Wednesday, 16 June 6 PM CET.
Cheers,

I enjoyed my extremely short-lived time as Archduke, but abdicating seemed like the right call. Best of luck to Mike in improving Austria's position, especially in dealing with a retreat order unlike the one he would have made.
I'm sure I'll play again with many of you in the future.

Hi guys,
much as Nick was looking forward to playing out his
recently assumed position as Archduke, he - on his own initiative and without
any encouragement of mine - selflessly chose to offer Mike his
former position.
Cheers,
Charles |

Thank you so much Nick! An extremely gracious act of kindness on your part! I shall do my best to uphold the high morals you have brought to the Kingdom of Austria.
And Thanks to the rest of you for yur kind words of support this past week. It meant a lot to hear encouragement from you.
Lastly, thanks to Charles for allowing this exchange to occur. The Dip community needs more GMs who although sometimes rigid with their rules , also can be flexible and bend with the times.
Now, back to the game at hand!

Wow! It's hard for me to believe this game has actually come to an end! It's definitely a bittersweet feeling for me - it's been the longest, most memorable and probably most enjoyable Dip game of my life, though I understand if the rest of you don't quite feel that way!
Alan, Clark - thanks for being such excellent adversaries. I really enjoyed matching wits with you; I'll play with you guys anytime.
Rob, Matt, Dale, GB - thanks for playing as well. And ummm, sorry for taking most of you out of the game... Yeah...
John (and Garry) - thanks for doing such a great job GMing. Like I said above, you can GM for me anytime... and maybe someday we'll get a chance to compete against each other.
I'll send out a proper EoG in the next couple of days. I just wanted to thank you all for such a great game.

Mike, I'm sure you understand the voting process. Whatever you say here (whatever I say) clealry doesn't matter, thus I came up w a way to prove you would not go for a DIAS if one were presented in a way that the voting could be taken out of the picture.

And I will reiterate: if you had ever come up with a plan that didn't involve me allowing every other country to run rampant across my home centers, I'd have approved it. You didn't -- you came up with a plan that left both Suzanne and I vulnerable to your good graces and trusting you on your word. HA!
So, I did what I said I would: I moved Pwyll over to GGL and never attack Raz again. My line is drawn, and Pwyll is safe.
On the other hand, you also did exactly what you said you would do: you attacked Skel and now sit there and Uhl.
Are we just as safe now as we would have been if I had pulled Pwyll? NO.... but we're safer. Everyone is. So why can't we force that same draw you talked about?
I don't see how it can "force" a draw, and I never did. That's why I suggested just voting YES right then and there. Same as I'm suggesting right now.

Still trying to recall when I dismissed this proposed DIAS you suggested. I seem to recall something about giving up GGL, letting Faerie fleets sail down into RoD, give up any claims to the Underworld, and possibly throw in my first-born child. Not sure what surprised you when I said that wasn't so much a plan for a DIAS but a plan for the "death of the Ogres".
Anyway, I never suggested that your "advance" had anything to do with the center you gained. It didn't. But an unexpected attack on the High Seas? Now that *IS* aggressive.
I also never asked you to stab either the Trolls or the Faeries --- at least not this time. I said I was perfectly happy with the current 6-way, but if you came up with a plan for a 2-way or 3-way that didn't involve me inviting everyone to tea in my home centers, I'd be willing to listen. You don't want to give away your strategies, so no plan will be made.
So just Vote YES already and let's put this game into the history books.

I love your arguments Mike. Ogres take 2 centers and it's "securing their lines". Rogues take one center publicly stated, and it's "advanced".
What would you have me do? Do you want everyone to order Holds? I'm going to order my units, and you are going to order yours.
Oh yeah, and this message you post? It comes 10 minutes after you write me 4 paragraphs privately going over how you want me to suggest moves to stab the Trolls and Faeries and get a 2-way. Offer the world, give nothing, get someone to stab somoene. It is a good strategy Mike, tho now it's just boring and repetitive.
Once you refused the DIAS I suggested that we could have actually forced thru, I think this whole strategy of yours lost its impact.

Interesting! Faeries basically hold, Pirates *actually* hold, Trolls secure their line but get hit, Undead retreats behind Ogre lines, and Ogres secure their lines. Who advanced this turn??? I wonder who's voting NO to the DIAS!
(Oh, and Suzanne gave me full permission to take Caer)
DIAS resubmitted, and YES vote attached. Hope we can now all follow suit and end this game already.

Mike, go back and read it, this is a waste of time. Email, titled "an idea". You replied something along the lines of "what kind of plan is that" even tho it would have involved me *not* taking Suzanne's last home center, you not taking more from the Faeries, and us forcing a DIAS thru in 2 years flat. 2 more turns now and we'd be there if you had wanted it, and nothing could have prevented it.
You scoffed it away and went back to pointing fingers.
