You should Sean! Wink

Hello Dirk,

I never GMed before, and I haven't toyed with the alternative mapping tools to realpolitik files yet (due to my computer being unable to read realpolitik files, it comes up looking like computer giberish).
Any GM interested in starting a Colonial Game (Open Games) MMGreenwich Aug 21, 12:26 am
It looks interesting. This was produced for real and available in stores?
Any GM interested in starting a Colonial Game (Open Games) FuzzyLogic Aug 22, 09:57 pm
Supposedly yeah, tho I've never seen Colonial played face to face. It's been played 8 times here at dc...

Any GM interested in starting a Colonial Game (Open Games) FuzzyLogic Aug 22, 09:59 pm
Have you actually installed the Realpolitik software? It is fairly straight forward. You go to Resources -> Downloads, download the RP 1.7, unzip it, then run the installation / setup file.

Yeah if you just open a .dpy game file without having RP installed, it will just be sorta jibberish. It's a textual coding of everything that's happened in a game, that Realpolitik can interpret.
Any GM interested in starting a Colonial Game (Open Games) Sean2010 Aug 25, 03:22 pm
1). Yes, I've finally been able to download Realpolitik files, but I haven't been able to download files from diplomaticcorp yet.

2). Yes, Colonial had actually made rounds through the stores. I had gotten mine from "Hobby Town USA" before the store closed down, but this was before Hasbro had bought the rights from Avalon-Hill.
Any GM interested in starting a Colonial Game (Open Games) garry.bledsoe Sep 03, 03:09 pm
Not sure if you know or not but for a MAC you actually have to go and change the extension of the file when you download a .dpy file from the DC site. The Mac tries to do the "right-click" download as a .dpy.txt file and thus opens it with a document type of program. Rename the file without the .txt and you can open it in RP.

Hope that helps.

GM's remarks:

Ok people, I would like to request that you take an extra moment when you hit reply to delete the body of the previous message and/or change the subject.  I really do not need to have the adjudication sent back to me with one or two lines of your orders.  And, while most of you resent your orders if you sent them under the adjudications subject line, I have at least three sets of orders with the same subject line as my last email to you all.  You are risking an NMR if I cant find your Orders.  Thanks.

Congratulations on making it to Year 4 of Winter Blitz 2010!

dc316 fall 1903 results! - coryfucius   (Apr 16, 2010, 5:29 pm)
Unfortunately, we suffer two NMRs, from both Austria and France.  However, the Archduke was already out of luck in the face of 3 enemies - thanks for playing, Matthew.  What might France have done, though?

As it stands, Russia and Germany trade control of centers in the north, as Germany convoys through both his fleets from Berlin to St. Pete.  Meanwhile, Austria is wiped out in one fell swoop, with each of his 3 hostile neighbors gaining at least one formerly red center.

The only dislodged unit is Austria's army in Vienna.  But since it would have to be removed during the winter anyway, I'll retreat it OTB.  We thus proceed directly to winter 1903 adjustments, which will be due tomorrow, Saturday 4/17 at 3pm Central (US) / 21:00 GMT.  This time, I won't be out of town when the deadline arrives.

The Winter 1903 adjustments are as follows:
  Austria:  remove 2 / eliminated
France:  build 1  (banked from 1902)
  Italy:  build 2
  Russia:  build 2
  Turkey:  build 1

Hello to All -

I have just made a request of Charles.  I have asked him to not schedule any deadlines between 2 May and 9 May.  During that period I will be away from home, having a medical procedure done in Los Angeles.  Although I will likely be hospitalized for just two days, I am not certain how much internet access I will have during the entire week that I am there, nor am I certain as to how much energy and focus I will be able to devote to the game.

1648 091010: Winter 1656 Retreats/Adjustments - charlesf   (Apr 16, 2010, 3:17 pm)
Hallo zusammen,

the good burghers of Frankfurt are revelling in the celebrations
surrounding the imperial coronation, hailed by pamphletists in the pay of
Mazarin as the restoration of Charlemagne's empire (and to be sure, the
Bourbon-controlled territories almost entirely match those under Charlemagne's
rule). Meanwhile the cardinal is busy coordinating an ambitious armaments
programme. Both wharves in Brittany and in Flanders have been furiously working
on state-of-the-art ships-of-the-line for the Sun-Emperor.

Alarmed by rumours of a possible French naval descent and planned royalist
risings, the Lord Protector has hastily scraped together a bunch of armed
merchantmen in the "capital of the West country" as the bulk of the
Commonwealth's forces remain engaged in Eastern affairs. Is it "1588" all over
again?

Down in Castile, bards are immortalising the long march of the valiant Army
of Flanders that recently surrendered to pursuing French regiments. And these
songs and tales evidently have resonated with Castile's youth as they've joined
the king's regiments in great numbers.

I'm curious what 1657 shall hold for us!

Spring 1657 prelims are due on Monday and the final deadline shall
follow on 21 April, 6 PM CET.

Liebe Grüsse,

Charles

RP on Macs Variants - former.trout   (Apr 16, 2010, 2:23 pm)
Yeah - after I wrote the explanation I looked back and it seemed a little complicated - but once you're used to the process its really very simple. You just have to direct the RP program to use the variant files.

Once you've loaded the plug-in, you can click on and off which variants you want. Thats a good functionality. Most won't run into this problem, but at one point on my old PC I had so many variants loaded that the program bugged out on me. I think being able to turn them on and off without having to relocate the files on your hard drive is a nice feature.

Anyways, glad its working for you now. Cheers,

T.

Gentlemen,
We see an epic battle of Waterloo, where the Germans lose against the united forces of France and England. On the other side of the continent the Italians march on and the Austrians manage to take Bulgaria.

No retreats are needed since the defeated armies were crushed to oblivion.
We have two builds due:Austria Build 1France Build 1

Is the game moving too slow / too fast? Any other comments - feel free to tell me when you send in your orders.

Dc302 Spring 1904 (dc302) psychosis1973 Apr 19, 08:36 am
As has been pointed out to me by one of the players, Austria's NMR for Spring 1904 is his second consecutive season with an NMR (as no remove orders were received for Winter 1903). As such, Austria should be in civil disorder. I'm going to impose this, as it's in my house rules.
As Austria only has one centre remaining, I'm not proposing to seek a replacement player.

Blitzers,
Fighting continues from the trenches of last year, as almost all advances are stopped. The only units changing position from last season are some of the Russian units and the Italian Fleets. All others are stopped. Special notice goes to the French, who manages to stave off all German advances with his four troops.

Needless to say - no retreats are needed, and we move into the Fall movement at once.

dc318 - Winter Blitz 2010 Fall 1903 results - bielf11   (Apr 16, 2010, 8:42 am)
From beyond the grave - Austria's "famous" last words:
Never before have I been eliminated this early in a game. But I knew it from the start. I had been cursed.
I had played Germany in WB Rd 1, and only barely survived it. Yes, my NMR at the worst possible moment might have played a role in that, but I also like to think that having to play Germany had put me at a disadvantage. So you can imagine my relief when WinterBlitz Round 2 was announced and Mike said that they had managed to assign an outer Power in Rd 2 to almost every player who had played an inner Power in Rd 1. Then I found I had been assigned Austria. Yes, I was one of the few exceptions. That a given I decided to play an aggressive Austria. An Austria that would quickly conquer the Balkans, leaving it to Russia and Turkey to fight over the leftovers. So I ordered all my units south, leaving Budapest and Vienna at the others' mercy. The gamble I took was that Italy would not attack me the first year. And that's where I went wrong: Italy did exactly that and ordered to Tyrolia that Spring with a combined Venice/Tyrolia attack on Triest in the Fall. And again I had gambled wrong: since defending Triest would be the obvious thing to do, I had decided to defend Vienna. One Home SC down after the first year. But at the same time I had taken Serbia and Greece: still +1 SC overall. The bad news was that the England player had abandoned the game (or actually he never showed up in the first place). Big setback for me as Russia no longer would have England's threat in the Nordics and St Petersburg.

Now in 1902 I set out to stop Italy's threat to me. At the start of Spring I had a unit in each of the SCs and used all of them to put pressure on Italy: in Triest and by going for the Ionian Sea. I bounced with Italy in the Ionian but managed to take back Triest. But at a huge cost: Turkey and Russia had allied to drive me out of Serbia. And in Fall Italy returned and took back Triest by force while my units were under attack from Turkish and Russian armies. It was like the whole world had turned against Austria; even the Russian fleet in Sevastopol had been given orders to attack Budapest! Can you imagine?
And with all those units tied up in a very tight spot I had no place left to retreat to. At the start of Winter 1902 I had lost 2 units; half of my army! Then in Winter 1902 I had to disband one more unit as all but one SCs had been taken from me. I had an army sitting in the one remaining SC but knew that hostile armies were sitting in all bordering countries. Chances of survival for that army were less even than none. A disband seemed to most humane thing I could do for them. And I knew that this was the beginning of the end; no chance of recovery with 3 hostile neighbors.

At the start of 1903 with only a fleet left, I decided to give Italy a hard time. Perhaps Italy would make a mistake and I could survive in Tunis. Italy didn't; and that was it for Austria.

Guys, thanks for playing. Joe, you played Italy exactly right, much to my dismay. Again I learnt a lot.
Frank

Now one more year left for me. Probably will be denied access to ION, and ADR - VEN or TRI is highly unlikely either, so that's it for Austria.
And for my WinterBlitz. Ah well, I had a good time with Rd1 and still have DC302 left and waiting for The Dark Ages to kick off. And still GMing DC300. Always fun.Fredrik, thanks for GMing both my WB Rds. Hope to meet you as a rival, uh ally, in another game.

dc294 Fall '14 results - notasb   (Apr 16, 2010, 7:11 am)
They have changed the site and it took me a bit to find the DC House Rules, you will not have to change your will to include continuing orders for this game:

If a game appears to be stalemated, the GM may choose to declare the
game a DIAS if there appears to be no substantial change to the board
dynamics for 4 consecutive turns (2 years). This rule is most likely to
apply where some power(s) have demonstrated a stalemate line that cannot
be broken given a fixed set of defensive orders. If the No Substantial
Change rule is to be invoked, the GM will notify the players after the
2nd season (1 year in) of effect, allowing them at least one full year
to consider the implications of a potential stalemate. Any declared
stalemate will be a DIAS where all players in control of at least 1
supply center will share equally in a draw. Some things that may break a
stalemate are:
The capture of a supply centerDislodging a unitPlayer request, with explanation of why the game is not
stalemated

According to this I need to declare that some players have demonstrated that a stalemate has been reached and you have 1 year, 2 Season, in which to change the situation or agree to a DIAS.  At the end of Fall '15 I will call the game if there has been no change in the board.

Christine,

What are the rules here? How many seasons of not changing any sc's ownership are needed for a draw to be declared?

Or are there no such rules? Assuming Sam will happily continue his game, should I put in my will that my grandchildren and their successors should continue to copy-paste always the same set of orders in this game until the end of times?

Dc302 Spring 1904 reminder - bielf11   (Apr 16, 2010, 4:08 am)
No sleep all night?Wouldn't that give you an extra 7 hours?  Wink

2010/4/16 Michael Thompson <psychosis(at)sky.com>

This has been terribly remiss of me (again), but i'll be adjudicating at about 5pm GMT today - super duper busy last night (having two boys under 4 who wouldn't sleep last night didn't help!)

Apologies again for the delay...

Michael
