Not sure what happened to tfletch (hopefully preparing for computer Waterloo; Gettsburg; etc). Good news/bad news for French in Pic. Adjs due along with rets. As some rets affect what the builds will be, I leave it up to you to cover the possibilities. Some may build 1 or 2. Some may disband 1 or 2. listing it out may be seen as to impact on ret choices so I won't.

DC292 Fall 1903 Adjudication - sam_buck_productions a...   (Jan 28, 2010, 6:01 pm)
Wow... Russia supports England into Kiel, while grabbing Sweden back
from her at the same time. England get into both Kiel and Holland,
forcing the former to retreat and the latter to disband. Turkey's
capital also falls to a long-range Italian convoy, while Austria's
support from his newly-conquered Bulgaria seals the deal. We have a
somewhat complicated retreat/ build season, so pay attention!

Retreats:
German F Kiel: Helgoland (Auto) or Off The Board
English F Sweden: Finland, Denmark, Skagerrak, OTB

Presuming Neither retreat is to OTB:
Austria: 6/5 Build 1
England: 6/5 Build 1
France: 6/5 Build 1
Germany: 0/1 Remove 1
Italy: 6/4 Build 2
Russia: 8/6 Build 2
Turkey: 2/2 Build 0

Please Remember to CC the order box at: orders-at-diplomaticcorp.com, We
don't want a repeat of last friday (Although I will be running the
turn saving an unforeseen circumstance). Builds/Disbands and retreats
are due exactly when you think, 1/28 -at-7ET. Conditional builds will be
accepted.

dc291 fall 1903 results! - coryfucius   (Jan 28, 2010, 5:45 pm)
Unfortunately, we have another NMR to report... the unordered French units are all assumed to hold. Another player's orders were somehow lost in translation, but thanks to the Orders box, the Swiss ambassador was able to deliver a copy to me.

England sails into the undefended Portugal and supports a German advance into Burgundy... but elsewhere, Germany fends off attempted English moves to Denmark and Sweden. Russia advances into Silesia, vacated by the German army marching to Galicia. The Russian fleet in Finland stays at anchor.

Meanwhile, in the south and east, Turkey finally gains the Black Sea, as Russia's fleet instead bounces the Turkish attack on Rumania. Turkey sails unopposed into Tunis, but appears to guess wrong and runs into the Italian army defending Rome. Italy and Austria join forces to boot Russia back out of Vienna. Turkey moves out of Serbia, leaving it under Austrian control.

Two units are dislodged, and it's possible that neither will survive through the winter:
The French army in Burgundy may retreat to Marseilles, Picardy, or OTB.
The Russian army in Galicia has no valid retreats and is destroyed.

Jonathan, since your army has multiple retreat options, I'll leave it up to you where to take your autumn retreat.

Winter 1903 adjustments will be due as follows:
Austria: no open center, build is (again) banked
England: build 1
France: remove 1 (no change if retreat OTB)
Italy: remove 1
Russia: build 1 (rebuild of destroyed army)
Turkey: build 1

Both the autumn retreat and winter adjustments will be due tomorrow, Friday 1/29 at 3pm Central (US) / 21:00 GMT. Since there is a retreat, you may submit winter adjustment orders conditional upon that retreat.

Cory

Press from England:

A buoyant young sailor from York
bobbed about in the sea like a cork
he splashed to and fro
then decided to go
to the south - to east Portugese pork!

Said he "Where's that French fleet I knew?"
It seems to have slipped out of view!
It seems rather odd
they'd be fishing for cod
way out in that NAO blue!"

Nearby on that famed "Western Front"
things got quite severe, to be blunt
as scrambling French soldiers
hid behind boulders
to whimper and grumble and grunt.

.ExternalClass .ecxhmmessage P {padding:0px;} .ExternalClass body.ecxhmmessage {font-size:10pt;font-family:Verdana;} Hey all,

Checking with the masters again, but to my knowledge Italy failed to submit moves. Once again I stress two things: prelims, and CCing to the orders box. But anyway, Greece was dislodged, and the only available retreat was Albania, so I took the liberty of placing him there. Alan, if you'd prefer OTB just let me know.

In other news, it looks like some discernable alliance structure is forming in the east with A/T each grabbing an talian dot and apparently moving into position vs Russia, while the west looks like every man for himself this turn. Lots of bounces as Germany and France foil all of each others moves.

Next deadline is tomorrow at 9:00 AM CST (3:00 PM GMT). Again, remember the retreat to Alb is subject to Alan's approval, so feel free to make contingecy builds if needed.

Thanks all!

Hi Guys,

Firstly a big thank you to our patient and tireless GM Hugh Apolley. For over a year Hugh dealt with us all in a friendly and cheerful style, never once complaining, and always reliable. Hugh, take a bow please, a truly great GM. Moderators please note!

This was my first Gunboat game, and I found the dynamics completely different to the regular game. Not knowing who your opponents are is one thing, not being able to communicate other than thru public press makes the game a different challenge altogether!

Early on. I as Germany misread French intentions, got stabbed and lost MUN as a result.... I held on, but by the time I had stablised things, England had conquered the North, was in denmark, and to survive I had to become his vassal. Bill's press was a highlight of the game, witty, entertaining and diversive, I looked forward eagerly to any words of wisdom he cared to share...

After the early elimination of the slightly boastful France (sorry Rob!) and Russia (Sam), Italy and Austria held on for quite a period but eventually succumbed, (thanks Tim and Mike) leaving me, (Germany) Bill(England) and Gregory (Turkey) to fight it out.

Myself and England struck up a relationship thru press and over the board tactics, while Turkey ploughed ahead on his own, very successfully, with little or no press for us in the West to feed on..

This policy appeared to pay dividends as England and I had a couple of crisises and our alliance nearly fell apart. Bill as England with all those fleets always had the whip hand on me, despite my best efforts. Eventually I decided I could only win with Bill, as Turkey was too strong for me to be able to fight on two fronts.

Once Turkey saw that our alliance looked unbreakable, some mischevious press started to appear, trying to break the tenuous alliance, but really, it was too little too late. While England luxuriously sent his fleets (at what looked to me a very slow pace) into the Med I was engaged in a torrid land battle with Turkey. I have to say that Gregory was a worthy opponent, seeing my every weakness and with an incredible eye for the sharp counter attack. So despite having overwhelming forces myself and England were taking years to overcome Greg.

In the end, it was inevitable that Turkey would fall. A three way might have a fairer result, but I felt that while myself and Bill worked hard on our relationship, and came thru many difficult moments, I felt rightly or wrongly, that Turkey had not fully participated in terms of press and communication, (sorry Gregory) and so I held on for the two way.

A great game, I learned a lot, my thanks to all the players and to an outstanding GM, Hugh.

Thanks guys,

Joe Hackett Very Happy

"Greece expects you not merely to die for her, for that is little,
indeed; she expects you to conquer. That is why each one of you, even
in dying, should be possesed by one thought alone – how to conserve
your strength to the last so that those who survive may conquer.
And you will conquer, I am more than sure of this."

- Eleftherios Venizelos speaking to Greek sailors at the beginning of
the First Balkan War.

PM Venizelos would be proud of his Greek sailors this season, who with
their Serbian allies have seized the initiative in the war against
Italy by launching a daring convoy into the Italian homeland. Serbia
does not fare so well herself however, and faces a combined
Austrian/Romanian attack from the north. The fields of Serres turn
red, as Serb, Buglarian, and Ottoman forces clash in an inconclusive
battle, causing a massive chain reaction of bounces across the
Bulgar/Ottoman front. Romanian and Bulgarian fleets take to the sea,
and threaten the Ottoman rear guard.

As always, my thanks to all who have been CCing me on player
negotiations - please keep it up!

.ExternalClass .ecxhmmessage P {padding:0px;} .ExternalClass body.ecxhmmessage {font-size:10pt;font-family:Verdana;} Hey all,

Thanks all!

case in point that these message boards don't get enough attention -

First, allow me to welcome you to DiplomaticCorp, albeit belatedly, and suggest that you monitor the webpage often, particularly the "Open Games" option at the top of the page. Selecting that link will take you to a listing of the games that are currently open and looking for players. Selecting Join this game! there will trigger the email process between the GM and yourself. The GM of the game will typically explain everything else you need to know (other players, deadlines, maps, etc.)

Once you have a game going, browse the site for all the cool gee whiz features like the statistics, DipWiki, variant listings, and of course the rankings.

It's also a very good idea to have an adjudicator program (I suggest Realpolitik) on your computer for use in games. Google "Realpolitik Sourceforge" and you should be able to download the most recent version.

Aside from that, I would also invite you to join the Facebook page for the group (search for Diplomaticcorp).

If you're still looking for a game, and open to variants, I have open slots in my game of Sengoku available right now...jump on in, as long as you're willing to commit to playing the game through to completion.

DC224 Slaughter At StoryTime - Spring 15 Revision.... - garry.bledsoe   (Jan 28, 2010, 1:28 pm)
All,
It seems that our Troll King wished to disband his A at Anvard in lieu of retreating. Unfortunately the map I have still shows an A in Dancing Lawn so I will get that corrected later (there is NO A in Dancing Lawn!). The other two retreats stand:
F Grs can move to OwlwoodF Thw can move to Far Far Away

Given this change, let's push our Fall deadline from the 2nd to the 4th at 6pm CST.

OH...and one more piece of business...the fabulous Undead Lady pointed out that my original email only contained the orders as written but not with the action that resulted. Those with results are included here.

Thanks.

DC 293: F1903 and F1903R Adjudications - AceRimmer   (Jan 28, 2010, 10:31 am)
Two retreats. The German army in Belgium may retreat to Ruhr. Therefore, it does. The German army in Holland may retreat to Ruhr or Kiel. Since it would be silly for the Holland army to also retreat to Ruhr, it instead retreats to Kiel:

A Bel-Ruh
A Hol-Kie

[Note: this retreat adjudication would've been far more entertaining if Germany were not looking straight down the barrel at three disbands, since OTB-plus-rebuild would've become an entertaining option].

Austria is officially eliminated, though it may not have happened exactly as planned...?

Winter orders are due tomorrow from England (2 builds), Russia (2 builds), and Germany (3 disbands).

Thanks all!

Well in that case if we are going to colour coordinate (which I'm all about!!!) I will definitely have to go with Coldplay -"Yeah, they were all yellow!"

Not very warlike I know. But what the hell...

Yay Team Purple!
I played in Penner's first draft of this map and got hammered, so I figured why not get hammered again. Has everyone picked their national songs? I must admit being purple I now cant stop humming "He's a one-eyed one-horned flying purple people-eater..." so that's ours. What's going on here? It looks like I'm attacking - well almost everyone. Go me.

Hey there guys. So, we've got ten players once again. Please welcome Michael Sims as the new Congo. We'll get the Fall 2001 season up and running one more time. Here are your competitors:

Next deadline: Fall 2001 orders are due on Friday, January 29, at 1pm CST. Most of you already have orders in, but they are allowed to change between now and Friday, especially considering the regime change in the purple states.

Carry on!

Keep your friends updated— even when you’re not signed in.
