DC270: Spring 1905 Results - dipknight   (Nov 21, 2009, 5:24 pm)
GM’s remarks:

Ok, people . . . a few issues to go over here.  First, some of us are getting complacent about changing the Subject line of the email.  When you reply to my previous messages without changing the Subject line it makes finding your orders later difficult.  So, please take a moment longer when replying to one of my previous messages to change the Subject line . . . please.

Second, a couple of you are going to find you accidentally sent in illegal orders.  Again, I encourage you to look at your orders once again after I have sent you my “received” return mail to avoid these errors.  Or, perhaps the error was that you did not have an updated map to work from.  The DiplomaticCorp site will always have the most recent map available if you want to check there once in a while.

And last but not least, I am not your baby sitter.  I trust that all of you are old enough to be out on your own.  I will often allow last minute extensions for no more that 24 to 48 hours (and sometimes provide my own excuses to cover a 24 hour delay).  But, it is your responsibility to get me your orders or the request for an extension on time or you will end up with all of your units holding with a No-Moves-Received (NMR).  I will only allow two NMR’s per player before I replace you . . . no questions asked.

I hate being a total ass . . . but if that is what it is going to take . . . trust me, I can be an ass.

I would like to have the Russian retreat as soon as possible.  If I hear nothing from Joe before Wednesday (11/25), I will assume the position has been abandoned and begin seeking a replacement player.

DC-224 Slaughter At StoryTime - Fall 13 - I Know W... - former.trout   (Nov 21, 2009, 11:22 am)
Quite the hullabaloo this turn as the Trolls begin rending the Rogues limb from limb, the Undead shake and rattle their bones to reclaiming their homeland and things get even grimmer for our Elven and Archer friends.

Three retreats are needed once the chaos is sorted - one each from the Dwarves, Rogues and the Pirates.  Which brings us to the scheduling department.  Another end-of-year trip has sprung up amongst our players - but no retreats or builds are required from our travelling team member.  So I'll see if I can stretch out the Autumn and Winter turns over the next week or so and this should allow for a Spring turn of standard length.

The short story is that I'll set the Early Winter (Autumn) retreats deadline for Wednesday, Nov 25th (11:59 PM GMT).

Please let me know if you spot any errors.  I think this adjudication is clean - but then that's when I get in the most trouble...  Cheers everyone!

Guys,
Thanks for getting all your orders in on time, effectively showing me that there's no reason to worry or throw childish GM-fits. Sorry this wasn't out last night - life is throwing the book at me right now. No more excuses, though, so here's the turn.

"There is nothing more difficult to take in hand, more perilous to conduct, or more uncertain in its success, than to take the lead in the introduction of a new order of things." - Niccoló Machiavelli, The Prince. 1537

DC 260 (Asian): W1908 - AceRimmer   (Nov 20, 2009, 8:10 am)
Item 1: On account of the Thanksgiving holiday, S1909 will be on Monday, November 30 at 10:00 am CST (unless I have *final* orders from everybody by this Wednesday night).

Item 2: In F1908, Persia ordered F Red Sea - Eastern Mediterranean because, well, the map suggests that's possible. Mike did not know (and I forgot) how badly the map is drawn there. So, to remind everybody: Egypt-Red Sea-Arabia-Syria all meet at a point. Egypt & Arabia are not adjacent. Red Sea & Syria are not adjacent. Red Sea to Eastern Mediterranean is right out.
Because (a) Mike had no reason to know the map peculiarity and (b) Mike's intent was clear, I therefore am readjudicating Mike's order to F Red Sea - Egypt.

Item 3:
Indonesia:
Build A Borneo
Build A Sumatra
Build F Java

Persia:
Remove A Warsaw

Siberia:
Build F Kamchatka

Heya folks,

Just came from watching 2012, so your humble GM is in a nice cheery end-of-the-world mood.  (Yay!)  In any event, just thought I'd brighten up the doom and gloom by sending out a 17 hour deadline reminder for the Fall 13 turn.

Salut!

DC 262: Angstskrik - Fall 831 Adjudication - Kenshi777   (Nov 19, 2009, 6:04 pm)
Honored Kings of the Dark Ages:

Many pitched battles rage across the continent and on the high seas
this fall, but few result in a transfer of dots. The Scots regain the
North Sea over Danish opposition, though the Danes advance their
fleets successfully along the coast. The Danes also advance
successfully in the only transfer of dots this season, seizing
Rogaland and Hordaland. Meanwhile, back in the south, the
Anglo-Saxons advance along the coast to enter the fray in the central
seas...

We bid farewell to our Breton player this season, as his last SC falls
to the Anglo-Saxons. A big thank you to Matt for playing Dip as it
should be, and fighting to the very finish. You are welcome to a seat
in any future games I GM. I would appreciate an EOG statement from
both you (and Mark!) if you are willing to provide one.

No retreats needed, so we move straight to the next deadline for
Winter 831, which will be extended until Monday, November 30th for the
US Thanksgiving Day holiday.

I have received prelims of all required adjustments. I am willing to
adjudicate early before I depart on Tuesday if all remaining players
(Norse/Danes/Anglo-Saxons/Gaels/Scots) agree. Please email me before
noon Tuesday to vote in favor or against this proposal.

I know Thanksgiving is a great time for Dip, I'd rather give you all a
Spring season to enjoy.

If I receive five yes votes, I will adjudicate immediately. If I
receive any no votes or receive less than five votes, the Monday, Nov
30 1700 EST deadline for Winter 831 will stand.

Hey gang,

FYI we now have a number, and I think I've got everything up to date as far as assignments, SCs etc on the game page.

Remember the deadline is next Wednesday at 5 pm my time. That is Wednesday night at midnight GMT. I still don't have much in the way of preliminary orders, so get 'em in!

DC 281 Spring 1901 - psychosis1973   (Nov 19, 2009, 3:03 pm)
And the Spring 1901 moves are in...many thanks to all for getting moves in on time, and for getting us the first season in successfully

And a very interesting set of moves it is too, with a mix of orthodox and unorthodox openings...in the West, France seems to be attacking everyone, but finds himself bounced in Burgundy, whilst England commits to the north, and Germany opens fairly neutrally.

In the East, Austria annexes Galicia, but finds two Italian forces knocking on the door in Trieste. Russia sends an army north, and a bounce in the Black Sea suggests Russia and Turkey haven't resolved their differences

Attached are the RealPolitick file for the game, and files detailing the Spring moves and resolution of the moves. The game page on the DC website has also been updated.

We move straight on to Fall 1901, for which the deadline is Tuesday 24th November, 2100GMT

I'm ok, except I'd like to point out that Thursday is Thanksgiving, at least for us Americans. Might I suggest an extension until Thursday morning/noontime? That gives a bonus day but doesn't put us Yanks at any disadvantage against any last minute squabbling by you slimy Brits/Canadians/etc. It also means, after a wonderful day of family, we'll all come home to the grim realities of a cruel, heartless, backstabbing and lying world. How wonderful!

DC 281 Spring 1901 (dc281) psychosis1973 Nov 27, 06:56 am
And the Fall 1901 moves see more craziness and strife across Europe...

Bizarre goings on between Italy and Austria as armies clash in Vienna but an Italian army elsewhere seems keen to help an Austria army back into Trieste. Russia and Turkey clash in Bucharest, with no victor, whilst in the West, the French fleet likes the look of the Belgian beers, only to be replaced in the channel by an English fleet. Germany seems to be the only power not engulfed by conflict, and is also the only power to get two builds...coincidence?

As a special treat, I've received some rumours from an unidentified source

MESSAGE STARTS
The unpleasenttries of the past seem to have started to resolve themselves -- The Italians and the Austrians -- The Russians and the English --- The French and everyone else. Rumour has it that the Russians are seeking to build a small Tea-Room in London and is taking reservations -- Rumour has it that the sultan is at a loss as to whom to move against --- May of Old Man of Europe find his way -- The Dauphin is indeed a crafty person with support from the Italians and the Austrians --- Oh, What Tangled Webs we weave.

Subject: DC 281 Spring 1901

"It's like in the great stories, Mr. Frodo. The ones that really mattered. Full of darkness and danger they were. and sometimes you didn't want to know the end because how could the end be happy? How could the world go back to the way it was when so much bad had happened? But in the end, it's only a passing thing. The shadow, even the darkness must pass. A new day will come. And when the sun shines it will shine out the clearer. Those were the stories that stayed with you - That meant something. Even if you were too small to understand why. But I think, Mr. Frodo, I do understand. I know now. Folk in those stories had lots of chances of turning back only they didn't. They kept going because they were holding onto something."
"What are we holding onto, Sam?"
"That there's some good in this world, Mr. Frodo. And it's worth fighting for."

DC 262: Angstskrik - Deadline Reminder - Kenshi777   (Nov 19, 2009, 10:44 am)
Having heard no objections to the late publication of the retreat, the
deadline for Fall remains tonight! Get 'em in!

On 11/18/09, Benjamin Hester <screwtape777(at)gmail.com> wrote:

Massive apologies from me to the players, I did not follow up on the
Breton retreat in a timely manner.

A Powys retreats to Chester.

If anyone would like an extension on the next deadline due to this, 24
hours will be allowed. Otherwise, the deadline for the Fall remains
1700 EST tomorrow, Thursday.

Also be advised that we have our Anglo-Saxon player Nick travelling
overseas right now through 12/2. Limited net access is to be
expected.

Spring is upon us, and it definitely appears to be a time of new

Gaels and Scots agree to an Anglo-Saxon presence in Powys, perhaps as
a buffer between them? Meanwhile - the Danes are handed their first
defeat in Neustria, but don't shed too many tears for their destroyed
army, as they successfully advanced into Rogaland. An interesting
fall season is ahead of us, but first - a single retreat - the
dislodged Breton army in Powys may retreat to Gwent, Pengwern,
Chester, or OTB.

Matt if you will please broadcast that retreat to everyone, we can
proceed to the next deadline - Fall 831, November 19th, 1700 EST.

.ExternalClass .ecxhmmessage P {padding:0px;} .ExternalClass body.ecxhmmessage {font-size:10pt;font-family:Verdana;} All,
We have a Turkish retreat from Black Sea to Ankara and one new Fleet and Army build (StPnc and Vienna).

Most interestingly, we have a 3-way draw proposed between Russia/Austria/Germany. That would mean survival for Turkey and Italy. Please vote on these for our next turn. IF the draw passes, it occurs before the turn's moves. IMPORTANT: a lack of vote by one of the 5 remaining countries simply counts as an abstention and does NOT affect the passing of a vote! Thus, if someone forgets to vote or has an NMR, it would not reject an EGP if all of the other 4 vote yes.

I will send out a map later tonight.

Spring04 deadline - Monday November 23rd at 6pm CST.

DC269 - Fall 1906 Unexplained Delay - Viper   (Nov 18, 2009, 7:38 pm)
Hey guys... sorry for the extended silence. Here's what happened. One of our players suffered from a broken computer screen and then by the time those orders came in, I was out for three days getting some training for my job and rather without internet access. Now, I'm back... I've got everyone's orders (the proposal failed, BTW) and I'll get those out as soon as I can. Also, once this season is finished, I'll be looking for a new Italy player, so it may be some time before we really get going again. Thanks for your patience.

DC-272 STILL Missing Four Order Sets - TheWhiteWolf   (Nov 18, 2009, 5:26 pm)
Folks,
The deadline is tomorrow (for real, this time.) I am STILL missing four sets of orders. I WILL NMR you. On top of that, with the false start I gave last week, it means you've all had a nice, early reminder, and therefore NO EXCUSE to be late. I will happily replace anyone who NMRs this season if they fail to contact me within 24 hours of the adjudication's publication, as is my standard policy.
