1648 090623: Fall 1653 Moves - Maps, Schedule &... - charlesf   (Sep 13, 2009, 8:45 am)
Greetings from good ole Berlin!

I'm finally back home after my cycling journey to and back from Scotland. For one, this trip certainly has further inspired me to redouble my efforts to push on with my non-Diplomacy-related boardgame project, namely a game covering the multiple Jacobite attempts to regain the British throne 1689-1745. Smile

So time to get that fall map files out and unburden Dirk from this task. I owe him a big thankyou for helping out in this crucial manner. You'll find the map further below.

I shall be updating the DC adjucation/slideshow later today with all the missing adjucations.

Once I have received a full complement of retreats/adjustment orders (without any request for waiting until the 16 September deadline), I shall go about adjucating the Winter 1653 season. So, if you guys wish to speed up the progress of the game, get those orders to me.

On another note, now that I am back home, I shall be starting to write a follow-up article for DIPLOMACY WORLD, roughly centering on the development of 1648. If you have any ideas as to what I ought to include in it - or whether you're interested in writing something of your own, do let me know. The deadline's 1 October. Yeah, wish I had more time, but I hope I'll have a draft done by next weekend and would then welcome your input on it.

Liebe Grüsse,

Charles

Dc: Modern Game On! - AlanRFarrington   (Sep 12, 2009, 10:40 pm)
.ExternalClass .EC_hmmessage P {padding:0px;} .ExternalClass body.EC_hmmessage {font-size:10pt;font-family:Verdana;Welcome everyone to what will be the 4th time a Modern game has been run on DC. (correct me if I'm wrong Sims)
Its a brand new game, a brand new map, same old diplomacy! Just to clarify we have 11 players for a 10 player board. I've told the last person who joined that if he wants to step in as a replacement if we need one he'll be the first I contact.

Now lets get this underway! My apologies to one person, I couldn't give you one of your preferences. Everyone else got one of their top 3 picks. All I can say is my condolences, I hope you don't take it too hard and play the game to its fullest anyway. To everyone else most of you got one of your top 2 picks so I feel I did pretty good considering everyone wanted to play Turkey or Egypt!!

First Deadline

September 22nd, 2009 at Midnight GMT (7:00pm EST)
*Note this will be the standard time of deadlines but you will have to pay close attention to the days as they will change according to different circumstances.

Realpolitik for Macs? - FuzzyLogic   (Sep 12, 2009, 9:51 pm)
Many people ask me if there is a Realpolitik for Macs. The easy answer is - yes - it's in the downloads section. But I am not a Mac-guy, and so I can never provide any insight regarding if this file we have works, or how to install it, or how to use it on a Mac.

If anyone does this or is familiar w how to do so, please speak up so that we can possibly gather some Mac-experts who could help other Mac-Dip-newbies with their questions...

Thanks!
-mike

Heya Mike,

I have installed RP for Mac about a year ago and am quite happy with it. I also still use RP on my Windows PC.
Just let me know if you need my help.

DC-239 DIAS Proposal - TheWhiteWolf   (Sep 12, 2009, 9:16 pm)
Good question. You should probably have checked my house rules, because they clearly state:

"9a. If multiple proposals all pass unanimously in the same turn, draws including fewer players or solos will take precedence over draws including more players."

Guys,
Since Andrew tossed out the DIAS proposal publicly, I'll ask for your votes now. It doesn't make sense to hold off until the results to open it up for voting, so I'll ask that everyone send me votes on both the A/E draw and the DIAS by the deadline (Monday, 14 September.)

Thanks,

DC266 Fall 1904 Results - MattTheLesser   (Sep 12, 2009, 12:52 pm)
It is a very interesting fall season in that no supply centers change
hands this year! But that is not for a lack of action, as Turkey and
Russia both increase their presence around Austria, Italy finds himself
in the English Channel with some help from England, and Germany reclaims
the North Sea.

There is one retreat: German F English Channel may retreat to Belgium,
Irish Sea, Picardy, or OTB. The deadline for that will be Monday at 9
eastern, but I will publish it as soon as I receive it from Charles.
With no winter adjustments, the following deadline will be for Spring
1905, and that will be due this coming Thursday, September 17, at 9 pm
eastern.

Matt

Subject: DC230 Lost Kings - Fall 1911 - Grow Your Own F*ing Mustache A**hole!!

Case any of you are wondering about the Subject Header, its a great song by a local Edmonton band named the Wet Secrets... =)

The bough breaks, and France sledge-hammers to a 20 Center victory! Not entirely unexpected, but still a very strong showing from DCs resident solo-King, Mike Sims. With this, he notches another stroke on his belt and earns our hearty congratulations.

Honourable mentions go to Josh and Darryl for hanging in there and surviving the light blue onslaught. And my thanks to them - and all players of this game - for making such a good show of it. Thanks to everyone for hanging in there during some of the trials and tribulations this game faced - some of the stretches were a little bumpy but we managed to find our way home to Paris after all...

So that's it for the Lost Kings! Congratulations once more to Mike for his win, and I highly encourage everyone to send out your EOG statements to let us all know what you were thinking...

Cheers all! From the Lost Kings Shout-Out Stand, thanks everyone for playing!

DC270: Fall 1902 Results - dipknight   (Sep 11, 2009, 10:13 pm)
GM’s remarks:

My apologies for my tardiness, all orders were in on time (thank you).  However Real Life intruded and took me away from my computer for a few hours.

A couple of you have asked for “General Logistics” help.  I have looked into whether the DiplomaticCorp site provides this service.  Unfortunately, it does not at this time.  However, I suspect that this service will be available in the near future (within a year or so) and may even include “Mentoring” for those whom are new to the game.

In the mean time, I am open to providing “General Logistics”.  How this would work is; you provide a hypothetical situation, I will provide you the results of the situation and the reason behind the results.  I will not offer input on alternative courses of action or what your opponents might do to counter your hypothetical.  You will get only the results of your hypothetical situation, no mentoring.  In my opinion, downloading RealPolitik would be more helpful; but, if you have no other option, I am available.

Also, per the house rules, it is your right to ask for a second opinion from another GM.  If you think I have miss-adjudicated something, I will never be offended by this request.

Enough of my jibber jabber (as if any of you really read all of this anyway); see the results of the season below and as attached.

Well isn’t this quite a diverse opening we’ve got here! Some players on 2 centers, others on 7. The big winner for the day has to be Brazil with 3 builds on top of a 4 to start, while Bolivia just manages to break even when their capital falls to Chile. Peru and Colombia bounce over the Galapagos Islands, while the other 3 manage a relatively uneventful pair of builds. Net results?

DC 218 Italian EOG - TheWhiteWolf   (Sep 11, 2009, 11:21 am)
I may as well, before I forget. I have a really terrible memory. Let's see what I can remember, looking back at the history of the RP file.

Well, I started off on the unenviable British Isle. Not much better than Italy is used to, really. Austria and I initially agreed to work our way home together, with me taking part of Iberia and none of his other centers. Of course I knew from the start that this was a bum deal for me, since there would be no units left behind to defend my British centers. At the same time, I believe I was negotiating with France to get him home through Turkish Germany without annexing my northern centers.
I believe around the time i pushed Austria out of France, I had started talking to Germany about our future prospects. He knew he was losing all his southern centers, just as I knew I was losing all my western centers. So I tried to help him out by offering him Spain, just as I was getting home. Germany got the jump on Austria and I in builds at home by a year, but we didn't see that as a warning sign, and immediately started in on each other.
The next few years were constant begging of France and Germany not to take any more of my undefended centers because who else was going to hold the line against Lytton?? In the frenzy to get even and strike back, I never noticed the rapid expansion of Germany. It's like I had tunnel vision that could only focus on my little war. Stephen and I came to accords a little late - a mere one year before Chris snagged his last few centers. I could have finally struck back, but decided to try to salvage the game after it was already decided.
Congratulations to Chris, against whom I harbor no ill will. It was a hard fought battle and well deserved victory. Thanks to the ever-vigilant Scott/Packrat. It's always a pleasure to sail on such a tightly run ship.

Best of luck in the future,
Andy/Wolf

EOG from Turkey...

i came, i saw, i ran home, i didn't do much else....i should have talked to my neighbors more early on..no point later on and i don't blame them for not talking to me at that point..unfortunately Austria  beat me home and Rus made it back around the same time as i did to Sev so wasn't very much i could do after that...congrats to germany--i thought aus/italy/ger all played very well...i'm glad the game wasn't ruin but the original french player's temper tantrum/resignation....

DC-224 - A Deadline Too Quickly... - former.trout   (Sep 10, 2009, 11:25 pm)
Heya all,

I guess our quick deadline was a little too quick - especially seeing as how I failed to get the advance 24 hours notice out last night.  Two order sets are missing - both players were notified earlier this evening.

There's a chance both sets of orders will come out in the wee hours of the morning - if so I'll do my best to get the results out before leaving for work tomorrow morning.  Otherwise, we will delay until tomorrow evening.

Cheers,

DC270: Fall 1902; Deadline Reminder - dipknight   (Sep 10, 2009, 3:32 pm)
All,

Just a few hours over 24 hours to the deadline.  I have received only 3 sets of orders.

I hope you all are not coming to depend upon this reminder to get your orders in to me.  This is merely a courtesy on my part and not a requirement.  Therefore, it is not an acceptable excuse that you did not receive the "Reminder" email for why you missed the deadline.

If you have not received my "Received" email, please resubmit your orders.  I hope to hear from the remaining 4 of you who have not submitted orders soon.

Best Regards,
       Darryl (GM)

DC267 Fall 2012 Results - DamienThryn   (Sep 10, 2009, 10:58 am)
Damn history!  Whenever Russia achieves a position of dominance...this happens!  Stupid revolutions...

Odd that the rebels managed to build their own fleet, leaving mine untouched.  Must have been the submariners out of Petropavlosk.  Never trust those glowing jerks.

[quote:74526bafe2]Not too much to comment on this season as most simply attempt to improve their positioning.  Russia is the only one to move into an enemy center as his armies march onto the frozen Beaufort Sea.

There are no retreats, so we move directly to Winter 2012, the deadline for which will be this coming Monday, September 14, at 9 pm eastern.  Don't forget to account for the freezing territories (listed below the adjudication)!
