DC 262: Angstskrik - Spring 826 Adjudication - benjamin.hester at us....   (Jul 16, 2009, 4:33 pm)
Honored Kings of the Dark Ages -

Scott, our Norse player, has graciously agreed to step up and push the results through Realpolitik during my training away from home without RP access. So what you see below are the raw results of the orders, which Scott will run through RP and republish the results, map, and DPY file. I'll take a look at that, certify it as official, announce any necessary retreats, set a new deadline, and we'll proceed. Much thanks to Scott for helping out during this frantic time.

Fall 826 will be tenatively be set for Thursday, July 23, 1700 GMT+1. If a separate retreats deadline is required, I will follow up with that. Thanks to all for remembering to mail this account and for getting your orders in on time!

As always, for those just joining us or observing, here is the player list:

The map and adjudication are certified as official. As I cannot review the .dpy file for accuracy from my current sad state of affairs, I would have to advise everyone to ensure that it matches the map Scott attached.

I see no necessary retreats yet (correct?) so we will proceed with the Thursday July 23 1700 EST deadline. (NOT GMT+1 as I mistakenly entered in the last email...not sure where the heck I got that from, maybe habit from adjudicating old games in Iraq...getting senile in my 30s....)

Thanks!

After many seasons of quagmire and failed draw proposals, I'm proud to announce that this season's draw proposal finally failed yet again.
It's not that progress was impossible... it just didn't happen. So, the only three units that move are Turkish:

A Tri-Tyl
F Apu-Adr
A Con-Apu

Nonetheless, I am not convinced that this position is necessarily drawn -- indeed, I want to see some action to justify these long tense seasons! A good way to eventuate such action, of course, is to stab your ally. Just don't whine to me that you can't do. Quit talking about doing it, and do it!

But seriously... no retreats, no adjustments. See you on Moon Day.

dc238 - Game End!! (It was...) - MagDox   (Jul 16, 2009, 10:40 am)
Let me just add my thanks to Bruce, as well as to the rest of you for an
enjoyable game. I hope to play with you again.

Best for the future,

Gareth

Joey Pedicini wrote:

Hey Mike,

I really apprieciate you trying to fill in for Bruce in the end. It
was fine up until France suddenly dropped out without any notice. I
hope she is ok and nothing happened to her. But she was my one main
ally and when she dropped out I was basically just waiting to get
taken out.

I would really like to play another game with the same people who
stuck it out in the end, and you too Mike. I love meeting new people
and playing diplomacy, and diplomatticorp is such a great community of
people.

As an EGS, I would have to predict Gareth winning the game, as he was
already about to take me out and Russia as well. All in all, it would
have been a really good game minus the few dropouts and delays.

Thanks Bruce, very good job GMing this rough game, not sure if you are
a new GM or whatever. And thanks to Jorge, Jeremiah, Steve, Gareth,
and Trout for staying in the game.

Hope to play with you all again!

Joey

It was the best of times, it was the worst of times…

Whatever! Diplomacy is always fun, and this game wasn’t half bad.
Met with some challenges admitted, but we all got thru it, and in the
end, I have to say the remaining 5 were all a very active bunch.
Given how much everyone was wanting to jump up and say something about
getting some closure to this game, I kinda wouldn’t have minded to see
how it would have played out!

But that will have to be saved for another day, another game… for all
5 remaining players have voted for a 5-way DIAS!

Many thanks to all of you. Committed play makes for great challenging
games, and as a direct result of this game, I’ve added those who stuck
it out to the end, to my own personal list of players-to-invite to
special invite-only games that come up on rare occasion.

If you haven’t already, I’d suggest all of you who are interested in
the hobby, to give GM’ing a try. It will take your game to the next
level, as you learn a lot from running games that you don’t see as a
player. If you’d like to run a game, let me know! As a club we need
to always grow our talent base, both as players and GMs.

And now - the final stats!

Karl and Josh unfortunately had early game abandons.

(Thanks again to Trout and Jorge for covering)

Master Trout managed an elimination (is that “managing” something?)

And Jorge, Jeremiah, Joey, Steve, and Gareth get the 5-way Draw.

Bruce, I look forward to you giving GM’ing another go. Hope you don’t
mind me putting a bow on this one for ya.

I think that’s about it! Let’s see, the game played out over 176
days, or about half a year.

EGS (End-Game-Statements) are always welcome and encouraged, to
reflect back on what happened, or where the game might have gone.

Enjoy!

Romans take the royal bath this turn, as Sardinia falls to the Carthaginians, Ravenna becomes a home away from home for the Greeks, and they’re booted out of Athens by the Persian navy.

What lies ahead for the besieged Spartans? With 4 fleets surrounding of 3 different nationalities, will the Greeks live to build once more? And what’s going to happen to the love-fest in the desert – Can the Egyptians and Carthaginians share the same pyramids forever?

Find out – in 2 weeks! As one player is on vacation.

Friday July 17 is our next deadline for Fall 05. 6pm Central / 2300 GMT.

PS – there was one retreat, but Roman F Athens could only go to Epirus so I just nudged it there. Aidan, if you prefer OTB let the group know w/in 48 hours else the retreat will stand.

Subject: WWIV: the solo vote

Fellow world warriors,

I'm not happy that Andrew (USA) decided to make the solo so easy for Matt (Illinois), but no one deserves it more than Matt. And he will have it by the end of the year, no matter what any of us do. So if you have some goal you want to accomplish that takes two turns, or just can't stand the idea of voting for a solo, vote No. But if you want to accept the inevitable and move on to your next Dip game, vote Yes.

For what it's worth, that's what I'm doing.

Hallöle!

Nathan got his retreat order to me without much delay and now I'm able to publish it. I dare say it may come as a surprise to some.

BTW, if any of you know of nice Caslon-type fonts which feature diacritic marks (or otherwise suitably early modern font), I'd be grateful for such a tip. It bugs me that the extra-large map reads "Dauphine" instead of "Dauphiné".

I forgot to attach the Realpolitik save file to the last adjucation, which is probably just as well since there was a problem in how I had created the module. Since I gave all the minor powers the initial "M", Realpolitik believes they belong to one and the same power when determining victory. I previously thought the "Algiers has won" pop-up messages were merely a minor annoyance, but apparently at some point the programme no longer allows for any orders to be submitted (since it believes the game's over). Rather than not giving the minor power a uniform letter, I now chose to specify for RP that 58 SCs are necessary for victory - that being the most tolerable work-around for this issue. Michael Sims has posted the revised RP module on the DC site, where you may download it. Since the newer version is compatible with the almost identical older one, old save files work with either version. But if you're using Realpolitik, it's time to upgrade. (I'm afraid there's another glitch, the dates, that will be shortly fixed).

The Fall deadline shall be on 22 July. Please send in your preliminary orders as early as possible. You can always change them later. I trust I'm sounding like a broken record, but I can tell you that many mistakes were only avoided because there was still ample time to review orders and submit corrections.

Liebe Grüsse,

Charles

Hi guys,

Thanks go to the quick eyes of you players for noticing a total error in my adjudication.  The German army in Moscow was ordered to Sevastopol, NOT to St Petes.  The difference is that it bounces in Sev and remains in Moscow for the Fall turn.

I've attached the corrected map and .dpy file.  Deadline for Fall will remain on Monday.

Josh, please do me a favour and forward this to Mike Sims.

Cheers!

Still a couple of winter order sets shy of the full bushel.  If I'm missing yours, you just received an email from me.  Since we have a few of our number on vacation anyways, I'm guessing its all right to delay a day and hope the stray moves come in.  Adjudication will be out tomorrow night regardless.

Also, I'll need someone to volunteer to start forwarding the game adjudications and notes to Mike Sims for me.  I'd really appreciate it if someone would be so kind.

DC 218 SHIFT LEFT: Fall 1911- OOOOOPPPSSSSSSSSSSS... - packrat   (Jul 15, 2009, 10:16 pm)
Gentlemen:

For some reason the "corrected" map attached to the corrected email was NOT
the corrected map. For that reason I think more than one person wrote their
orders in error.

So, in the interest of doing this all correctly I am now attaching the actual corrected
map for Spring 1911.

I would like resubmitted orders from all the players as well as the VOTE for the AG draw.
No vote received counts as a vote of "no."

Deadline is set for Friday.

1648 090623: Spring 1650 Moves - charlesf   (Jul 15, 2009, 12:31 pm)
Juten Abend!

To date, outright conflict tended to revolve round the naval sphere. That no longer seems to be the case given the new conflict that has arisen between the Emperor and the Most Christian King (and perhaps now also a most unhappy king). Going west appears to be all the rage right. Now, the Polish king is following the example set by Austria, Sweden, Turkey and - for a time - Denmark.

At this stage, I ought to inform you that I shall be on holiday for 2-3 weeks in August. Cycling in Sco, Bri, Yor, Lon with perhaps some Fla or UPr thrown in for good measure. Smile Naturally I wouldn't want the game to suffer on that count and hope to find a kind soul who's willing to adjucate a season or two. If any of our observers feel the itch of what's going on behind the scenes with those DPs... I might also mention that any substitute GM would get his power preference in the next game I run he wishes to join. It's really very easy to adjucate with Realpolitik doing the heavy lifting. Hm, what else can I say to sweeten the deal? Smile

Now, our Summer Retreats are limited to A Lorraine. As soon as I get Nathan's order, I shall publish the Summer Retreats adjucation (unless he expressly asks me to wait until the deadline). The below map still shows some disbanded neutrals simply because Realpolitik doesn't know they're unable to ever retreat.

Thankyou for the considerable feedback I got on the various changes I listed in the previous adjucation. I am always interested in hearing your thoughts on such matters and appreciate a hard look at my choices.

Liebe Grüsse,

Charles

DC-239 Fall 1907 Adjudication Addendum - TheWhiteWolf   (Jul 15, 2009, 11:09 am)
Hey folks,
I forgot a couple important points in my haste to get the adjudication out:

- The AGI draw is soundly defeated by a 2-to-1 margin. Sorry, folks, you get to keep playing.

- An England/France draw has been proposed, and I'd like your votes by the winter deadline (as yet undetermined, but expect Monday-ish.)

Sorry about that,

WWIV: the solo vote - BRASIL VOTES NO - ndeily   (Jul 15, 2009, 8:44 am)
All:

For my part, Brasil is very firmly against this. If Matt meets the victory conditions, of course I have no objection to his victory, but I will not agree to grant it to him outright given the circumstances under which it's coming to pass.

I will vote "no" with my upcoming order set.
