DC190 - Spring 2008 - bielf11   (Jan 07, 2009, 10:43 am)
Michael,

odd, I feel I have been denied something I'm entitled to but I can't disagree with your analysis and conclusion.

Now for this scenario:
in addition to the orders BEN - SCS, SIA - SCS, and JAK - SIA, a unit is ordered into JAK.
What would have been the outcome then? Which of the rules prevails in this case: the unit moving out of the strait-controlling center giving up its control, or the 2 units moving in to those centers?

Frank

Dang it... I knew it would happen eventually, but I hoped it wouldn't. You guys have successfully poked a hole in the strait rule. Between South America's and Oceania's moves regarding the South China Sea, I ended up with a conundrum I haven't seen before. On the surface, it looks like F BEN and F Sia bounce in the SCS. But with that bounce, Oce controls the straight, restricting F BEN's movement. So perhaps F Sia moves into SCS... but then F Jak - Sia also works and leave the strait uncontrolled from the Jak side and we get the bounce all over again. Blech!

Fortunately, one of my friends who was involved in the testing was online and we were able to discuss the problem and came to a consensus about what we should do. We came up with this addition to the strait rule:

A unit that has control over a strait loses control over the straight if it moves to the same place as a unit moving through the strait in question.

In this situation, what that means is: SIA and BEN bounce in SCS. Because SIA moved to the same place as BEN, SIA no longer can stop BEN from moving through the strait. Had the support from HKG not been cut, BEN would've successfully gotten through the strait. I think this is the best way of resolving the current problem. Welcome to the 2nd annual Winter Blitz, I'm Christine
and will be your GM for this adventure.  I believe I have
met most of you at one time or another.  For those who
don't know me, I've been GMing Dip for 9 or 10 years
now, mainly here at DC and at Redscape.

Given the nature of this tournament I recommend that you
reacquaint yourselves with the rules in order to minimize
any misunderstandings or errors.  If at any time you find
an error or dispute an adjudication you must contact me
ASAP.  If any turn passes and there is an error on the
board, we play on – players have 24 hours from the posting
of any adjudication to contest it.
www.diplomaticcorp.com/winterblitz

This is a fast paced game with short turn around.
Spring deadlines will occur every Monday. Fall deadlines
will occur every Thursday, 3 days later. Then 4 days roll
around again to Monday.
Retreats and/or Builds will always be due the day after
results are out. That is Tuesday for Summer and Friday
Retreats, Builds & Disbands.  Autumn Retreats will
always be due at the same time as the Winter Adjustments.
There will be NO delays or extensions.
I may adjudicate early if all orders are received marked
final ( this mainly applies to the adjustment phases).

First Deadlines:

Round 1 Spring 01 deadline:    Monday Jan 12, 2009 8 AM
CST  (GMT -6)  1400 GMT
Round 1 Fall 01 deadline:    Thursday Jan 15, 2009 8 AM
CST  (GMT -6)  1400 GMT

All adjudications will be sent directly to you and also
posted on our game page
www.diplomaticcorp.com?game_id=dc231  and sent to the main
forum  blitz(at)diplomaticcorp.com

Possible duplicate entries? - RussellPA at corning.com   (Jan 07, 2009, 10:27 am)
Dear TD,

I am writing because I am concerned over possible duplicate entries for speedybunny and phantomas.
If you check the message board for Winterblitz DC167 Game over Correction, there is a message from speedybunny that is signed phantomas.
It doesn’t seem likely that two different individuals would make a mistake like that.

Regards,
Paul Russell (PARussell)
Sorry but the scores are wrong again :
These should be
England = 13.2
Germany = 12.8
Turkey = 13.4

Best,

DC 233: Country Assignments - AceRimmer   (Jan 07, 2009, 8:31 am)
Well, there has already been a minor snafu in the administration of the tournament -- I have been given the okay to lay it squarely on the shoulders of the tournament directors, which I am doing -- but apparently you were not meant to be able to specify a window seat versus an aisle seat versus a seat near the bathroom...

In other words, country assignments are to be random. So, thank you for sending me preferences, but I am going to totally disregard them. Instead, I am consulting the ouija board, and...

Michael,

odd, I feel I have been denied something I'm entitled to but I can't disagree with your analysis and conclusion.

If you have any questions about it, please ask. Now on with the adjudication:

To stop the whole world from exploding, I think I'm going to graciously let Oceania have SCS next year.

Didn't think trying to raid Taiwan for RAM chips again would be so complex...

In the case that another unit moves to Jakarta I'd have to say the SIA - SCS is successful along with all the subseqent moves... I'll have to try to come up with a succinct way of writing it as a rule to cover that possibility.

ps. Thanks for finding the hole in the rules... that's what test games are for. Incidentally, you can read about the development process of the map in the latest version of Diplomacy World Magazine... they've decided my story is compelling enough to share with everyone.
DC 226 - MISSING ORDERS STILL - packrat   (Jan 06, 2009, 8:59 pm)
Sorry gents, I am still missing two sets and I will not start a game out
with two NMR's in 1901. Both players have been notified separately
since I forgot to do that last night. They have until 2100 Wednesday.

Acutally, I will be in class until 2200 so I will likely slide it a bit. However,
if they do not have orders in the game will go on hold and they WILL be
replaced.

DC-184 New Deadline - TheWhiteWolf   (Jan 06, 2009, 8:49 pm)
Folks,
After player request, GM contemplation, and Moderator support, I've come to a deadline decision. German, when you finally get back from your trip and see these emails, please don't be offended at my decision. I'm honestly doing this for the good of the game, and waiting for your return wouldn't have made any difference.
Turkey's moves can't possibly affect the outcome of the game, so the new Fall 1910 deadline is Friday, 9 January at 2pm EST (7pm GMT.) Again, I'm sorry it's come to this, but the overwhelming opinion on the board is that a month is far too long to wait for the end result everybody seems to expect.

Welcome to DC 236, your first round of the annual DC Winter Blitz. I am Rachael, I will be your GM for this lovely game. Below is a list of rules that every player needs to read and make sure they follow! I also wanted to let everyone know that I will be incommunicado on Monday the 12th and Monday the 19th as I will be on the road driving to and from MI ( I live in GA ). You still need to send me your orders along with the other 3 addresses ( see below ) during my absence. Mike Sim or Former Trout will run the adjudications on those days for me. Please read the following

*** Send me your country preferences by Thursday afternoon, 7pm EST ( 12am GMT ). I am planning for this to be the hour of the daily deadline, but I can be flexible if enough of you prefer an earlier or later hour.

Timelines:

Now for the rules:

Please include "DC 236" somewhere in your subject line on all emails. I use filters on my email account, and this ensures that all "DC 236" goes to the right folders. Also, in case I cannot adjudicate, a tournament director will adjudicate from the backup orders email address -- your use of "DC 236" will make it clear to them which game you are in.

Please copy all orders to: orders(at)diplomaticcorp.com (orders(at)diplomaticcorp.com) address.

The tournament's web page is: www.diplomaticcorp.com/winterblitz -- please read the rules.

Our game's status will always be available at: http://www.diplomaticcorp.com/?game_id=dc236

Due to the daily deadlines, you will only have 24 hours to protest any errors found in the results. Please check adjudications as soon as you receive them.

Due to daily deadlines, I will not be sending out reminders (though I think the tournament directors may).

DC 217, Fall and Autumn 1903 - alwayshunted   (Jan 06, 2009, 3:39 pm)
I had a quick look myself, and I believe everything is correct. Germany has four units and three SCs. Keep in mind that I adjudicated the autumn retreat to Ruhr on my own. Make sure you're looking at the "winterdue" map, not the "autumndue" map.

Cheers,

Warren

There is an error in the adjudication. Germany is already on 3 units, so does not need to remove one (my friends and I had already done that for him- ha ha).

I had a quick look myself, and I believe everything is correct. Germany has four units and three SCs. Keep in mind that I adjudicated the autumn retreat to Ruhr on my own. Make sure you're looking at the "winterdue" map, not the "autumndue" map.

Cheers,

Warren

DC 225 Adjudication Correction (agan) - AlanRFarrington   (Jan 06, 2009, 12:49 pm)
Sorry to bother you again guys, but a flaw in my adjudication has been pointed out. Germany was supposed to build army in Munich and Berlin (as opposed to Munich and Kiel) New maps and RealPolitik files are included. Thanks for the catch, Jyri.

Orders are still due Monday January 12th at 12:00am GMT

Cheers,
Alan Farrington
