DC-184 Impending Replacement of England - camorse22   (Jun 24, 2008, 6:35 am)
Wolf -

Sorry, it wasn't clear to me from your message. Once the new England is brought in, you'll set a new deadline that gives him and us the chance to meet each other and discuss things, right?

Chris

Subject: DC-184 Impending Replacement of England

Folks,
I'm saddened to report that England has defaulted yet again. As per my house rules, there is no grace period this time - he will be promptly replaced.
I will accept revised orders until we've found a replacement and hit the new deadline.

Mods,
Would you mind putting 184 back on the recruiting list? Sorry to be such a pain. I promise this is the last time with this player.

Heya fellow Sinners,

On we go into Spring 1910 where England makes a surprise attack against the Baltic Sea and Turkey continues to inch slowly up the Italian boot... One retreat is needed from Russia as a result - deadline for Summer 1910 retreats will be set for Wednesday, June 25th (11:59 PM GMT).

As always, please let me know if you spot any errors. Cheers!

DC176 - Get 'm in, get 'm in - Fall 1905 deadline... - bielf11   (Jun 23, 2008, 2:44 pm)
Only 4 hours left. Yes, the deadline was set to Monday 23.00 GMT this time.

And I have only 3 sets of orders, so please get them in asap.
An NMR at this stage in the game would definitely change the balance of powers. Not that everyone would mind of course. But I'm sure you would if you happen to be the one that NMR'd.

Sorry for the blank e-mail, had a premature send... Wink
We had another NMR from Germany, that is his Second and puts him out of this game.
I will take a Vote on CD or replacement. Please respond by Tuesday, 6/24.
A non response will count as a vote for finding a replacement.

No retreats are needed, so as soon as we have a new German, or decide to CD him, we will move on with Fall 1905.

Awesome Frank!

We still need GMs tho come on folks 240 active players - where's the GMs out there? It takes much less time to GM a game than to play in a game, since it only takes time once per week... playing, you're writing all week long.

It's probly easier than you think...

The Time has Come... (Community) FuzzyLogic Nov 21, 05:26 pm
Once again the time has come... for all good Diplomats to venture forth... and offer up their pen, their computer, and their Realpolitik... and add to that their steadfast committment, their sound judgement, and their wisdom of the ages... and from those great things, beget more great things - a game - of Diplomacy.

Who shalt become the next glorious GM to blaze his trail thru this wilderness we call fun? Who is it that will provide an inspiration - leadership - a touch of humor - and most of all open the gates for those that surround us to enjoy their busy days at work... Days when people should probly be working - or cooking dinner - or writing their discertations, but instead - prefer to lie, cheat, and stab - all because you - the next GM - make it possible.

Come forth - oh ye great GM's... and run a game.

Hi folks,

As the gentleman said, my name is Ed Green and I guess I'll be running A/H for the duration of the game.

A bit about my background with Dip. Started playing back in the early 70s (in High School) and after entering the military lost touch with the game.

Started playing again last year via the Internet.

And, I'm *very* excited to be playing this game, because this is the first time I've had a chance to play this variant, although I've heard/read about it for years.

Thanks for allowing me the chance to join in!

Ed

Fall 1900 Correction! - douglasefresh at googl...   (Jun 11, 2008, 3:56 am)
Sorry players,

I made a mistake in my adjudication last night. Italy's fleet in Apu should now be in ION.

Good news is, I have heard from our Turkey and he is still in the game (hooray!)

I have a retreat from both Russia and Turkey, but want confirmation from Steve that he is still happy with his choice after this update. We have a little time to play with as Tsar Matt isn't back til the 17th. Winter adjustments will be due to me on the 18th. In the meantime if Steve can confirm/change his retreat, I'll sort out the mess I'm making for myself and update the maps.

If I don;t hear back from Steve in the next 24 hrs, I'll assume that his retreat stands and we shall proceed.

Kind regards

I'll send both maps to all of you in the following mail and post the adjustments needed with the retreat results tomorrow afternoon.

DC181 - Fall 1900 results - douglasefresh at googl...   (Jun 10, 2008, 10:52 am)
Dear Players,

Plenty of action this Fall. Overwhelming German forces have routed the solitary Russian garrison in Warsaw, The French have prevented the English from invading, while Austro-Italian collaboration successfully ejected the Turks from Greece.

I had it pointed out to me by one of our players that I have incorrectly been labeling our deadline time as GMT - which is 1 hour behind my actual British Summertime (BST) status. I shall label up the deadline as BST from now on. And so I am giving Sultan Steve one hours grace. (Edit: No response from Turkey - Steve: Please get in touch as soon as possible to let me know whether or not you are still interested in playing - failure to do so may result in your ejection from the game and all the rigmarole of a replacement being sought).

DC183 Spring 1903 moves - psychosis1973   (Jun 09, 2008, 3:59 pm)
Spring 1903 moves are in...and lots of activity across the board.

In the West, France is thwarted in her attempt to take Belguim and move east in the Mediterranean, but mops up one of the last two German centres. Italy sneaks into Munich, but faces three French forces and will surely be evicted before he can enjoy the Oktoberfest.

In the North, England loses Norway to the Russian fleets, whilst in the East, Italy and Russia combine to take on Turkey, and evict him from Serbia. In retaliation, Turkey moves into the Black Sea.

There's three retreats due after this turn, and all have only one valid retreat. I've taken the liberty of retreating said forces to their valid retreat province. Should Turkey, England or Russia want to disband instead of making their retreats, please let me know by 2000GMT on Wednesday 11th June. If all three confirm their retreats/disbands before this deadline, I'll progress to Fall 1903 earlier.

Thanks

Michael

éôáò-ôáóó Press Release

Anonymous sources with close ties to Russian government officials say that secret agents had successfully isolated Turkish and Italian leaders from any communication with the outside at their Winter convention they so provocatively had organized on former Russian soil, at an undisclosed location at the Krim. Governments of Italy and Turkey have not replied to our requests for a reaction. The Russian representative said: "We do not confirm nor deny these allegations.".

Bless thee Bottom, bless thee! Thou art translated...

There's high adventure in the North Seas as Denmark and England swap centers. Meanwhile our new Frenchman conducts business admirably despite the slight handicap while Sweden takes a hit and the Ottoman Empire gets diced. My thanks to Rob, the Chicken of Bristol, for stepping in and manning that sinking ship.

Two retreats are required, although one is slightly irrelevent. Spain has to relocate the army in Tuscany and the Ottomans need to relocate their unit in Constantinople. We'll space the Autumn and Winter phases out slightly longer, this time around, to accomodate our travelling players schedule. Deadline for Early Winter 1603 retreats will be set for Wednesday, June 11th (11:59 PM GMT).

Please let me know if you spot any errors. Cheers folks!

Colonization - FuzzyLogic   (Jun 06, 2008, 12:14 pm)
My next thought on games… (perhaps more practical than the previous one, and also more likely to attract mainstream players)

===== Colonization =====

The year is 2101. Europe has been at war for 200 years and nothing has changed… except technology: Every player has invented space travel.

Each player may now attempt to either play like normal (on a standard 7-player map) or, send a unit out to colonize one of two planets (moons?). The planets can either be pre-drawn and known to all, or hidden discovery.

Each player has 3 spaceports, one in each of his home centers (Russia-4). An army (not fleet) may order to colonize… (coloninze planet alpha or colonize planet beta)… in which case it would then go up into space, and land on one of the planets. The planets would have around 15 sc each. The player would choose their intended landing space (must be a city)… conflicting landings will bounce and result in a failed trip (no movement). If landed successfully, they can capture the sc in the fall. Then use that sc to build… either back on earth, or, in their spaceports on one of the planets.

Additional spaceports may be built by ordering an army to build a port in a captured supply center. That port then becomes a home center / space port, allowing the player to build on the moons if they so desire. Any unit in a space port may order back into space, either back to earth (again, choosing where to land – must be a city). If an enemy city, the enemy must approve it. If neutral, the neutral residents don’t mind you landing there. If your own, obviously ok.

To win: Capture 18 sc on Earth… or… fully colonize both moons. (i.e. capture 8 sc on both of them).

Some caveats:
The decision to stay on earth or travel abroad would be paramount. The first person to lay claim to a moon could get established there and have access to a swathe of uncontested neutral centers, which may be used to build at home. However sending units off in the first turn means you aren’t capturing neutrals on earth, and are sacrificing position there.

My initial take on balance is that the game would favor England and Italy, for they could send a traditionally useless first year army to colonize with little recourse… thereby ensuring them 2 builds instead of the usual 1 build. Central nations like Germany and Austria would be hard pressed to spare a unit away from defense so early.

Thoughts?

DC181 - Spring 1900 Orders Due - douglasefresh at googl...   (Jun 03, 2008, 6:18 am)
Dear Players,

I only have 5 out of 7 sets of orders for Spring 1900. I have sent a separate mail to the two players who have orders owing. I should be able to allow a couple of hours extra as I am not able to adjudicate until I have finished work today (damn w*rk - getting in the way), but I hope to see a complete set when I get back to my studio this evening

Kind regards
D
