DC141 - Replacement GM The Second Coming... - former.trout   (Apr 05, 2008, 9:54 pm)
Folks of DC141,

Alex has asked me to temporarily step in as GM of the game once again while he gets his internet and technical capabilities back on track. My apologies to all of you, but it looks as though you're stuck with me for just a little bit longer.. =P

The last few turns have been a little turbulent, I know.. Hope you are all hanging in there however. Unfortunately, I cannot publish the Fall turn at the moment as I'm missing orders from Italy, France and Russia. I'm going to reset the Fall turn deadline to Tuesday, Apr 6th (11:59 PM GMT). However, in this instance I'll adjudicate earlier if I receive FINAL acknowledgements from all players...

One other note - there was some minor confusion as Alex published a Spring adjudication following mine in which a minor difference in the French orders was seen. Please go with my original adjudication - Alan had sent in an order revision that Alex did not receive. Specifically - the French fleet is in the West Med, NOT in North Africa.

Thanks for your patience and perseverance everyone. =P

PS s03 results - The Arcolian Shuffle - FuzzyLogic   (Apr 04, 2008, 11:06 pm)
Just like the 86 Bears, the Arcolians flex their defensive might - denying every move of Boeotia, sacking the future capitol Athens, and coining the phrase "Da Arcolians"... little knowing that nearly 3 millennium later a football stadium will be built on the other side of the globe to mirror the Parthenon in their honor... and a MUCH more catchy phrase would result.

No retreats, so we move on to Fall: 1 week - Friday 4/11, 2pm Pacific! Remember prelims folks… great habit to get into.

Enjoy,
-mike

Re: Cleaning up the Player Roster - FuzzyLogic   (Apr 04, 2008, 12:54 pm)

Is there a way to either subdivide the list or eliminate players who signed up but never played and haven’t logged in recently.

Yeah the player list does load a bit slow as the number of players grows.
Three options...

- Purge players who sign up but never play a game. (greatest speed improvement)
- Change the player list to only show players who have played a game. (moderate speed improvement)
- Remove some of the columns from the player list. (speed improvement at the cost of some information)

Guns, Germs and Steel 1264 / DC110 - Sweets - roback80   (Apr 03, 2008, 10:54 am)
Small, inconsequential error Mr. R. Trout (Yep R is for Rainbow!!)

A Krasnoyarsk (kra) - Kasala (ksl)

Would succeed as opposed to be dislodged... but don't worry about adjusting the new map.. I will just order the retreat there...

Hey gang,

Further action in South America, Asia and even some in Europe this turn. Retreats are required from Brazil, Austria and Russia. Deadline for Summer 1871 will be set for Saturday, Apr 5th (11:59 PM GMT).

I'm attempting something different with this turn and just trusting the RP adjudication. Please give it a once-over and let me know if you spot any mistakes. Cheers!

I still need moves from two countries (they have received personal emails reminding them so I don't need to mention Austria an England by name). I'm looking forward to this seasons moves!

DC141 - Winter 04 Orders - GM Gaffes A-Plenty - former.trout   (Mar 27, 2008, 11:15 pm)
Better belay that notice folks. Apologies, but we seem to be short one set of orders for Spring 1905 - the player in question has been notified. I would normally follow Alex's HR's and NMR the position this turn, but due to the dual-GM nature of the last couple turns its possible that the orders were sent but simply not CC'd to me.

Whatever the case, if the last year has taught me anything it is that it never hurts to delay just a few hours to seek clarification. (Lesson learnt the hard-way.) I have given the missing player notice that orders are due by 11:59 AM GMT, or approximately 8 hours from now.

Cheers everyone. We'll get this game firing on all seven cylinders yet. =P

[quote:87df8d4ea4] Heya folks,

Truly sorry about this. Turns out I already had the missing adjustments but had mis-filed them in a different game-folder. My bad - the slight delay is on my shoulders...

Winter adjudication is below. England builds a pair of armies, Turkey a pair of fleets. Russia pots a pair of boots in Moscow and Germany removes in Helgoland. And with Italy non-responsive, I took the liberty and removed his non-SC unit in the Tyrrhenian Sea.

Have not heard from the possible replacement players as of yet, but I will let everyone know ASAP what the situation there is. (They are blind-CC'd on this adjudication.)

Spring 1905 orders will be set for Wednesday, March 26th (11:59 PM GMT). Please send your orders to Alex, but copy me in on them in case he is still busy and cannot adjudicate.

Cheers!

- RUSSIA GETS SERIOUS ABOUT DISBANDING IN SYRIA

- WORLD-WIDE MAP SHORTAGE DRIVES CARTOGRAPHY EXPERTS BONKERS

Let me tell you all how much I'm in love with this Mac - except in one itty bitty detail... While there is a version of RP for the Mac, the 'Special Build' patch to allow for large-scale games only works on the Windows version. And there doesn't seem to be any RealWorld program written for Mac. Creating a map of the GGS Winter 1870 turn is the ONLY thing I have been unable to do so far on this machine.

Before you all cry foul, however, here are the steps I am taking:

- I've signed up for the RealPolitik forum on Yahoogroups. My membership must be approved first before I can post or search through the forum however.

- My AC power adaptor for my HP laptop is on its way here from the one tiny store in San Diego that stocked that particular part. When it arrives tomorrow or Friday, I will use the HP to create the Winter map and .dpy file

Alternatively, if there was a kind player out there that wanted to pop out the .dpy and map and distribute it, it wouldn't go unappreciated. =P

In any case, Winter builds follow below. Please let me know if there are any errors spotted. Otherwise, Spring 1871 orders will be due Tuesday, April 1st (11:59 PM GMT).

Cheers!

Oh boy... here we go again... the current state of the game is all my fault... Okay I'll shoulder the blame... just to put and end to this childish bickering...

I can pin my failure on myself.

I think HL can carry his own load and you too.

Cuba was just relentlessly stabbed... hats off to Florida for his timing.

BC and Cali and Mexico have just been fortunate that the rest of our mistakes made their direction and gains so much easier of a choice.

Such is life... now enough of the childish bickering... NY, HL and QC are all to blame for the mess in the NE.

Yes but when we complete the story, we also recall that NY orchestrated the stab… and you’ve since admitted that you don’t think triples can work, so you entered the alliance knowing you’d stab it (or try your best to arrange where 1 stabs 1 so you can join in on the side of your choice) well in advance of it even being an alliance. You can’t pin this failure on anyone else but yourself.

Well. I guess you CAN. But then I’d reference my previous post about getting a clue.
Quebec.

Suddenly Mexicos dominance in the pacific has dissipated to the point where the 3 fleets of the Giant can sail a little more south and effectively shut of the Pacific to Mexico.

Yes, but why would we want to when the Mexican is so intent upon stifling the New Yorker?

This makes no sense. You state you’ll shoulder the blame to end the bickering, but then you state all are to blame. Truly indicative of what diploming with you has been like.

Mike,

In your great home state the 9th circuit has ruled that a pool in a yard completely fenced, but where the fence is less than 8 feet tall, constitutes an "attractive nuisance" and it is the pool(owners) fault if a child enters (attacks) the pool and drowns. Following that logic, you are at fault if Rob attacks you and drowns in his own self pity.

(Although I do have some trouble thinking of you as "attractive." No problem with "nuisance," however)
