DC116 Russia EGS - test_gm   (Sep 13, 2007, 12:00 am)
I don't know how many more times I can thank Trout for
doing what he could to turn a two-way draw into a
five-way one, as well as generally manage a
superlative game.

This game never had a midgame. In the east, I was
instantly invaded by A/T. I built in Sev, securing my
border with four units, and left StP wide open and at
England's mercy. Jason in Nwy decided it was worth
keeping Russia alive, and it was all downhill from
there on. Turkey joined me and stabbed Austria. This
allowed me to attack Germany, who had been playing
power broker with England and France. At this point
Turkey stabbed me, rejoining Austria, and the first
German leader quit for the usual pathetic reasons.

The turn that set the stage for the rest of the game
was F05. A/T had the advantage on me, but I managed
to slip one army behind their lines, while
re-establishing my own defense perimeter. In the
meantime, I thoroughly stabbed Mikael in his first
turn as Germany, knocking him out of the game before
he could even consider his options. England could now
focus on finishing off France, and heading toward the
Med.

Turkey was forced to resign and was replaced by Mike,
but nothing ever changed. I saw no reason to switch
allies from England to Turkey, given that I could win
either way, but was already positioned to do so with
England. Jason and I made some critical headway in
the first few turns as I kept Austria and Italy
focused against Turkey. By the time Mike peeled off
Italy, and finally Austria, Jason had just enough
momentum to squeeze us through a crack in the
Mediterranean door. I say a "crack," because I/T did
a terrific job holding us off.

I would say that the key points in this game were
Russia surviving the first year (creating the
beginning of an unbreakable bond with England), and
that Italy took a bit too long to cast its lot with
Turkey.

Hi All
Id like to chip in and say thanks for the game, my
first in something like 17 years I think. Not my
last that is for sure. It took me awhile to get used
to the usual diplomacy promises and stabs but that
all part of the game. Ive still got a lot to
relearn and learn so once again thanks for the game.
Id also like to give a special thanks to Trout as
without him this game would have happened. If you
could get back to me trout and tell me how the
mapping system works for the ordering Id be tempted
to give GMing a go.

I am so glad this game is over. I came into this
game with high hopes for a thrilling game as I took
over a Turkey with around 7 dots, and was up against
some great players. Little did I know that 10 years
would play out, I would end up on approximately the
same 7 dots, and the game called a draw.

It started off ok, there was some discussion going
on, but ultimately it boiled down very quickly to
England and Russia that wouldnt consider anything
other than their own alliance. Therefore I have to
say there wasnt too much Diplomacy in this one.
Italy and I came to the understanding that if we
flinched at all, wed simply be overrun faster, and
Austria eventually bought in too, that ER were
playing everyone else, and so it became the 3 small
powers defending, waiting, losing ground bit by bit.

I think had Italy and Austria committed to a trio
sooner, while Germany was still alive, we could have
gotten a jump on ER and done something w the game.
But once Mikael / Germany was out, we had no more
forces behind enemy lines and it was over -- the
next 5 years were all kind of a drag.

Therefore Im happy the draw passed, cuz I wasnt
looking forward to another 5 years of slow grinding
moves, nothing changing on the Russian front, and
England gaining slowly in the west. Im also happy
it passed, cuz the only alternative was that England
or Russia would eventually make a solo move, but it
would have taken 10 years to get to a point where
they had 15-16 ish each.

So good game all, especially to England and Russia
for a well deserved draw, Im happy w the survival
cant complain for enduring such an onslaught. As for
the Trout, another flawless game GMd as usual. See
you all next time,
-mike

I just wanted to thank all for a great (if long)
game.
But especially to my partner Jorge, for sticking
with me for a very strong end, to Mike, who stepped
into a weak turkish position and held the line far
longer then we could have expected (and teaching me
a few things along the way) and Doug, who stuck out
an impossible position for longer then I can credit,
and playing the sides off to perfection to keep his
micro-empire alive. No one earned a survivor credit
more.
And I would like to note, the turning point, from my
perspective was in the first years of the game when
I did not take a vulnerable St Petes when Russia
would have fallen to Austria and Turkey, forming the
alliance that lasted the entire game.
Good Game everyone, see you all on the next board!

EOG England - test_gm   (Sep 13, 2007, 12:00 am)
I want to thank France as well as congratulate. When I was a lost soul, and even when Russia decided the opportunity to take my pitifully few remaining centers was more attractive than my potential alliance (after all I was weak and friendless) France listened. Though I normally vie to prevent a solo, I favor survival over elimination. France offered me survival though I sweated those draw proposals leaving me out.

However, France was mainly responsible for my weakened state. Up until I trusted him for one season, I was playing fairly good defense. His stab, while not unsuspected, caused my demise. I took a gamble on him and lost.

I enjoyed taking Germany down through timely sacrifice and deft shifting of forces.

Bottom line, without the French solo I would have come in 5th and been eliminated. Though I may have been a puppet, I remain a live puppet. I also find (for me) England a difficult country to play. I'll keep trying.

Thanks to all.

Hello, everyone! I am your temporary GM while Andy deals with a serious real-life issue.

As Andy had noted in his last game e-mail, the next phase of the game is winter 1901 adjustments. While it appears that at least some of you sent in build orders, I don't have a copy of those, so I'll ask that everyone please send your winter 1901 builds to me.

In the interests of getting this game moving again, but also being fair to those (such as me!) who don't have regular Internet access on weekends, I'll set the winter 1901 deadline for Tuesday, March 4, at 3pm Central (US). That translates to 21:00 GMT, if I have converted properly.

Winter 1901 adjustments due:
Austria - build 2
England - build 1
France - build 3
Germany - build 1
Russia - build 1
Italy - no change
Turkey - build 1

Yes, even though Turkey suffered an NMR in the fall, the Sultan is still entitled to that build. Thanks for your patience, everyone!

DC140 "Never Ending Story" fall 1904 res... - test_gm   (Sep 13, 2007, 12:00 am)
The vultures set upon Austria quickly, as 3 different powers swoop in to grab Austrian-controlled centers. Germany succeeds in hanging on to Munich, but is not able to regain control of Kiel and Belgium. England defends London as well. The big winner is Italy, who gains both Trieste and Greece while retaining control of Bulgaria.

No retreats are due, so we move directly to the winter 1904 adjustment phase, for which orders will be due Tuesday 3/4 at 3pm Central (US).

England - build 1
Germany - remove 1
Italy - build 2
Russia - build 1

I have taken the liberty of retreating the Turkish army to Constantinopole (it's own retreat).

Now due to either very careful planning or Keller throwing a 'spanner' in the best laid alliance at the end of the game, but Germany has acquired his 18 SC and won this game.

Congratulations to Kevin.

Final Positions.
1st and SOLOing with German - Kevin Douglass on 18 SC.
2nd and Surviving with England - Jeff Shannon on 12 SC
3rd and Surviving with Turkey - Keller Hoak on 4 SC
4th and Just Eliminated this Winter - Shawn Douglass
5th Bill Barrett as Austria and Marc Gidwani as France eliminated in 1905.
7th Frank Gidwani as Russia eliminated in 1903.

DC161 - Short One Longboat for the Full Fleet - test_gm   (Sep 13, 2007, 12:00 am)
Heya Raiders,

Just letting you all know whats going on. Unfortunately we find ourselves short one longhorn for the DC161 saloon. The player in question has been notified, and I'm very confident that we'll be receiving the missing orders imminently.

Not an auspicious beginning, but life does happen. I, for instance, found myself having to borrow a laptop myself this evening - the old warrior I normally use having decided to cash in its chips. So, thanks for the patience all, the adjudication will be out before you know it.

Cheers,

Trout

Dc132 - Correction Pay Attention to this email Rus... - test_gm   (Sep 13, 2007, 12:00 am)
Dear Dc132 Players

It has been brought to my attention that i have not followed my own house rules in a situation (curse me for beeing too good at what i do..lol)

Because there are 2 Autumn retreats, I cannot automatically retreat russia to Prussia (and i've check my own house rules and I am right on that so I have to be firm with myself).

So I will need Russia to submit a reteat to Prussia or face a disband.

However with a stroke of luck to russia, I cannot adjudicate this tonight so he has just over 24 hours to send me his moves.

Autumn 1906 is due in 24 hours. Australian EST but i will adjudicate as soon as I have both retreats in
Russian A Berlin can retreat to Prussia or oTB

Turkish F Ionian Sea can retreat to Albania or Aegean Sea or Eastern Mediterranean or OTB.
I already Have Turkey's retreat

Winter 1906 will be due this Tuesday 5th at 9pm, Australian EST.
England: Remove One

France: Build Two

Italy: Remove Fleet Apulia

Turkey: Build One (or Build 2 if disband in Autumn)

Russia: If Disband in Autumn, Build A Warsaw.

sorry for the stuff guys, I'll be tougher on mysef next time.

Let Slip the Dogs of War! dc163 - test_gm   (Sep 13, 2007, 12:00 am)
Greetings to the Stalwart Seven,

I have named this game "Let Slip the Dogs of War!" (I always liked that quote from William Shakespeare's play Julius Caesar.) Other than that it has no real significance.

The countries have been assigned, I did the best I could to get you something on your list, but the random starts took out a few choices.

Please include dc163 somewhere in the subject line for any correspondence to me, as it helps me spot it faster (actually my mail program sorts it into a separate folder).

Below is the player list with your country assignments and all of your email addresses. If you have email filters, check them to include these emails. Also if you email dc163(at)diplomaticcorp.com (dc163(at)diplomaticcorp.com) the mail will post to our forum at Diplomaticcorp. That is a great way to taunt your opponents. If you want to send press to me to be published with the next adjudication feel free and that will not have your name attached to it. That is a good way to point out things you don't want others to miss, and yet not take credit for it. For fun try to make it sound like a headline in a newspaper.

So get ready, get set, and lets go play!!!

Spring 1901 moves will be due on Monday 03 MARCH 2008. That will give you a little more time to ask questions of me and diplome with your new allies/enemies.

Absolutely correct - and my apologies for the error. The German army in Denmark is forced to disband which frees up a build for the Kaiser.

Thanks to the players who caught the mistake. Sorry about that gang... The gamepage will be updated as soon as time permits.

Cheers!

This is just for fun....but all the news above is from a historical website. I might have tweaked it a bit for the second lines.

Anything is fair game. Lets have some fun.
