I can say "without a doubt that HL has NOT been sporadic and flip flopping all game and show proof"

: without a doubt that HL has NOT been sporadic and flip flopping all game and show proof :

There I accept your resignation.
-mike

PS...
However accepting that this is yet another statement not intended for the "truth" column in this game's tally of New Yorker verbiage, I'll assume it's more of that gibberish and you didnt intend for the words to arrange themselves into sentences when you spewed them out.

Andrew,

firstly I think you are thinking of the wrong foolproof plan as our communication when HL fudged it wasminimal long before my "easily manipulated" statement. And the funny thing about your declaration of my statements further solidifies my statement regarding HL. If there is anyone on this board than can say without a doubt that HL has NOT been sporadic and flip flopping all game and show proof then I will resign... right I guess I play on...

And if you accurately read what I wrote - not interpret what you want and how it suits you best - you will clearly see, and I quote "unless BC and Cali crack or Mexico makes immediate moves to flex some naval muscle in the Pacific, then the game is over." If those things happen then yes there is much to play for. But last seasons moves show Mexico edging more and more into the Caribbean and shows only the faint and probably staged movement north of a lone Cali fleet.

So like i said, and again I quote "another season or two on the current course..." and there won't be much left to discuss.

Just to set the record straight Rob (in case you or anyone else is interested) - the HL 'fudge' of the foolproof plan came at least in part due to my instigation - I thought he might be interested to know that you thought of him as being (I quote) "easily manipulated" and passed along those words of yours.

I have to admit, once I found that you viewed your relationship with your allies as one of mere manipulation, I lost interest in any long term relationship with you, even if that meant risking HL and Quebec combining to hit me in the future.

Frankly I wonder why Florida still sticks by you, and how manipulable you think he is.

That all being said, I don't see how this game is at the point of being proposed as a BC/Cali draw, when there's an alive and powerful Mexico and Florida that could easily contest that draw. And nothing says Cali or Florida couldn't pursue a solo venture. There's a lot of game left, methinks, and I'm sure there's plenty of chance that I'll also enjoy the feeling of clinging to a last few provinces (Artic Pirates Ho!) at some point...

And I hope you'll enjoy that feeling as well, before the end.

Andrew

Our sage guru of all guru-ness plucks this from his Spring 2006 Fortune Cookie: You will soon be more aware of your growing awareness.

Course, we're all aware of hind-sight. Mexico puts on an eye-patch and peg-leg, moving into Carribean waters. New York continues to struggle against the wrath of the previously-stabbed and the weather channels split in disagreement over the coming Canadian cold front or Sunny Californian glow...

One retreat required after all of that - the New York fleet in the Gulf of St Lawrence finds itself finding a new port. Either Newfoundland or Quebec , the American sailors will soon find themselves in a land with strange-speaking people. Deadline for the Summer 2006 retreat will be set for Sunday, March 16th (11:59 PM GMT).

Cheers all. Please just let me know if you spot any mistakes.

Subject: Re: DC138 Winter Of Our Discontent - Spring 2006 - Hard On Equipment

Sims,

All in the perspective of the wronged. I have played this game long enough to know that a geographic situation like ours would not sustain a long term, successful 3 way alliance. In the same way a E/G/F alliance or a T/I/A alliance in Vanilla Dip cannot last. A wise friend of my tought me this valuable piece of advise (occasionally the hard way) in some FTF games. An ally is no longer an ally if they have a shot at 2 or more SC's. And in 8 years of actively playing this game I have found that theory to be true 95% of the time. Sooner or later our borders would have ended up establishing that exact status.

If you want to see whether I am capable of being a solid and secure ally, look at DC136 where I have worked with Germany from the start to both of our benefit. Germany unfortunately made a wrong guess one turn that hurt him significantly and is just climbing back up from that with the trusted help of yours truly. So yes it can be done. But more often than not, it falls apart.

Lastly before you go blaming me for my choice of adjustments, I suggest you look more at HL and him vacating his line and cooperating with BC dispite my continued support and petitioning to ensure he did not lose MIS to Cali 3 years ago. So don't point the finger on me for the advance of Cali and BC. The line that fell apart which will open the door for them was and is HL. Period. so cus him out too while you are putting the blame on me handing the game over to them. I did my level best to restore peace and support HL and he chose to side with BC. Now tell me who is handing the game over?

Perspective.

Rob

Please refrain from declaring my moods. I am not mad, or upset. Rather I've been enjoying the game since you (Rob) devoted an empire 4 times my size to eliminating me, and you have nothing to show for it... and in fact lost 2 centers last round. You're so worried about BC rounding that corner or me living to say "hah" that you are conceding the center of America to California and BC so as to ensure my demise. That is in a way the ultimate compliment that you are giving up your own game to take mine.

However in the same breath, you're bitching about how Cali and BC wont stab each other, when you're bailing on the center of the map in favor of retaining an army in Gas is just handing them more centers and growth w/o having to stab the other. You are feeding the monster that you're complaining about, while getting very unlucky in the battles agaisnt me.

"You're just mad and upset that you were jumped on first - before you got yourself established enough to turn on HL or I."

I think Andrew's comments are right on, and this edifies them. For had you (and Heartland) not stabbed our trio, we would be in the 3 power positions, and everyone else on the map would be encouraging us to stab the other. See this is where your logic falls apart, for you ASSUME that an alliance wont work, and that someone will stab it. However we can see that if players stick to it, then it works. You didnt give ours a chance. You basically stabbed, admittedly so that I couldnt stab you first, and anyone who approaches an alliance like that, will find themselves often alliance-less, facing those who are stronger, urging them disappointedly to stab the other.

"Your in a position to lose both your SC's this turn "

Are you proud of this? You've spent your whole game trying to elim one player, I've survived way longer than I should have, and you're coming up on the short end of the alliance stick after our trio had the best opening possible in this game. Andrew would be toast if you hadn't turned, and Heartland and myself would now be beating on the door of California (sorry Ray!). However, yes, I am in a position to lose my SC's, so kudos to you for a great start well squandered. Smile

Subject: DC138 Winter Of Our Discontent - Spring 2006 - Hard On Equipment

DC138 Winter Of Our Discontent - Spring 2006 - Har... - test_gm   (Sep 13, 2007, 12:00 am)
Guys,

Whilst I admit that I was slightly sporadic in my gameplay in my defence I have never played online diplomacy before, never played a variant of this size before and most of all have never been within 2000 odd miles of the American continent. I may take a few days to reply to emails and did miss a deadline as I have exams to work for in May and coursework due in almost every week.

Rob, your email about my being "easily manipulated" and being a "weak player" annoyed me enough to stop your "Foolproof" plan. NB It didnt need to be foolproof, just Ski-proof.

I have enjoyed this game but resent the accusations of my former "ally" NY.

Cheers
Andy

Hello again, sorry for the quick follow-up. I have been informed that for the Winter Blitz tournament, there is a separate forum to which you should subscribe, there won't be a separate forum for each individual game of the tournament.

Subject: DC170 Winter Blitz game start!

Welcome to DC170, everyone. For most of you, this is your second game of the Winter Blitz tournament, so I'll get right down to business. My name is Cory Burris, and I will serve as your GM in this game. I have been involved in Diplomacy and this group for nearly 2 years now, which I suppose makes me a veteran around here. I hail from Chatham, Illinois, USA, and work as an analyst in our Governor's budget office. If anyone out there can spare $1 billion, please send it our way...

When sending me communications regarding this game, please be sure to include in your e-mail's subject line the following info:
DC170 [power] [season] [year] [version of orders]
For example, Germany would send his first set of orders for fall 1902 with the subject line "DC170 Germany fall 1902 orders, v1". I am currently serving as GM in two other games as well, so for my e-mail filter to work properly, the game number is critical! Also, since Yahoo mail is not 100% reliable, I encourage everyone to send orders to both my e-mail addresses, coryfucius (at) yahoo (dot) com and coryfucius (at) gmail (dot) com.

My usual house rules are attached; these are also available on the DC website with the game info. Since this is a tournament, rather than a stand-alone game, I do need to notify everyone that the timing will be different from what the house rules state. Orders will be due at 3pm Pacific / 23:00 GMT, which actually is 2 hours later than the deadline listed in the house rules. Also, this is a blitz tournament, so the rapid-fire season deadlines are as follows:
Monday - Spring
Tuesday - Summer (if necessary)
Thursday - Fall
Friday - Autumn and Winter

Please be sure to subscribe to the DC170 forum, to ensure that you receive all game-related messages from me, and feel free to introduce yourselves to the other players. I find it interesting to find out where everyone is from; one game I am running began with players from 6 different countries.

Thanks for playing, everyone, and good luck!

Cory

One thing is for sure, the sheep is not a creature of the air. They have enormous difficulty in the comparatively simple act of perchin'.
(Baaa baaa... flap flap flap... whoosh... thud.)

-----------------------------------

Ouch. The Danes discover a new world of hurt as they get slammed from all three directions. Two automatic disbands result from the Fall action - both Danish. After the smoke clears, one sole Danish center remains standing.

Winter 826 Adjustments will be due after the weekend, as I know a couple of players will be out of contact over the next few days. Please have your adjustments in to me by Monday, March 24th (11:59 PM GMT).

Cheers!

Round and round and round and round we go... he said she said that so and so did this... Easy to argue issues when they suit the purpose... but I am confident that you are not that much different than I. Seasoned, experienced, tainted and above all a thorough knowledge, through experience, of the various tactics and scenarios that make this the game it is. I have ridden the iron clad alliance and the stabbing lying bastard to various levels of success and failure.

No point in arguing this any further. As you said: Choices. As I said: Perspective. And the all powerful hindsight.

Play, but unless the wind changes in the caribbean or a new fault line is discovered on the west coast... the outcome is fairly obvious.

Ah yes - glad to have the expert here to declare what alliances can or cannot work. Shall I take notes? EGF or AIT can and do work in the standard game. In fact they are well-documented. But you say they can't so maybe 30 years of history and thousands of games were wrong. EGF (or in our case NHQ) alliances work if you make them work. If you discount any alliance as impossible, then you're simply playing with a smaller deck of options than the rest of the players. I will keep that in mind for future games! Perhaps you should consider that they dont work for you, cuz you think they dont work and so you preemptively break them. You also think that BC/Cali shouldn't work and one should stab the other, to the extent that you're whining that they should, yet it continues to work to your dismay.

They're simply choosing not to stab. Sorry. That probly hurts your eyes to read.

Now tell me who is handing the game over?

Oh, I don't think you alone caused the predicament that the whole northeast is in. However you were certainly an instigator in the happenings. I know that Heartland moved on me first, and I tried to work w the trio again after that, and then the two of you moved in, and I tried to work w HL yet again, and he still took a center on a retreat. But I chalk that up to inexperience, whereas I know you're a veteran who's supposedly been thru this before. I am pretty certain that without your prodding, if instead you and I had stood solid, HL would not have moved against us alone. As you put it, he probly could have been "manipulated" into sticking w us indefinitely, but you played that card to our destruction instead of our growth.

I'm guessing in dc136 you probly got hit from the other side, and so didnt have the chance to stab. No doubt if say Florida or Cuba had come up at you from the south, you'd have been all for our alliance. But when given the choice, well... it is a game of choices so we need not beat that one. Unfortunately there is no disputing that I gave both yourself and Heartland a huge effort to make this work, whereas your diploming was from the start of the alliance to get HL to stab me, since I outright told you I wouldn't stab him. That was truly my mistake in this game, when you asked me to stab Heartland so early, I should have realized you were playing that both ways, and Heartland wasn't as resistant to giving in.

What was the word... yes... perspective.
Or in your case, perspecttive.

Smile

Aw Sims... in this game there was no disconnect between my words and my orders to anyone until HL decided to fudge a foolproof (or so I thought) plan to take MON and QUE from you. And not since I sought retribtution for his actions has there been disconnect. Twice HL screwed me since (justifably) and for several turns BC has spoken great things towards peace in the NE, yet his rush of units to the region paint an entirely contrasting picture.

You're just mad and upset that you were jumped on first - before you got yourself established enough to turn on HL or I. I'm just mad because I had too much confidence in the compotence of HL. I put too much trust in BC when clearly he didn't deserve any, and at present you are just an extension of him.

The fact of the matter is HL will lose his centers before he gains anything significant from me. Your in a position to lose both your SC's this turn and surprisingly even after my misorder, I am not in terrible position in the short term.

In the long term, unless BC and Cali crack or Mexico makes immediate moves to flex some naval muscle in the Pacific, then the game is over. Not one to throw in the towel, but another season or two on the current course and our little love triangle in the NE will be a distant thought.

Rob

Ya know if you’d stop dropping your front line units maybe you could stop those huge empires in the west. I’m sure you’ll keep going at me tho, the little guy with two measly fleets just trying to stay alive, and Cali/BC will keep expanding. But of course you prefer me as your enemy, you’ve made that clear.

guess I have swallowed my words eh Sims

I didn’t know you used words. Based on the complete disconnect between what you’ve said this game and what you’ve ordered, I figured you were just speaking gibberish.

Fuck... Fuck.... Fuckitty Fuck Fuck Fuck!!!

…pretty much confirms that.

Subject: DC138 Winter Of Our Discontent - Spring 2006 - Hard On Equipment

DC138 Winter Of Our Discontent - Spring 2006 - Har... - test_gm   (Sep 13, 2007, 12:00 am)
Andy,

You misfired on the foolproof plan long before those comments were made. But judging from you track record and your own confession, you are in fact (at least in this game) easily manipulated and you have been very sporadic in your gameplay. If it's all the same, BC was in strong agreement over my statements.

I did try to reconcile. I did support you in MIS for several turns. And though you never followed through, I ordered around MON/QUE as I told you and you chose not follow through.

And lastly it was your choice to overlook the advances of BC (which were much more ominous than our earlier tussle) and hop in bed with him.

Choices. Perspective. Hindsight.

.hmmessage P { margin:0px;padding:0px;} body.hmmessage { FONT-SIZE:10pt;FONT-FAMILY:Tahoma;} Guys,

Cheers
Andy

I was in strong agreement? Of course I was - to you. Once I'd decided to work with Mike and Andy to thwart you, I needed to stay on your good side to get all the information I could.

Ominous BC advances, whoooo scary! The guy with a behemoth just to the south of his home centers is of course the threat to everyone. Not Mexico, who is almost secure in his position. Not Florida, who has more centers than anyone, and a nice corner.

But I do enjoy the propagandizing efforts to portray BC and Cali as the evil alliance. If you keep it up, it might save your skin, if we'll all turn on one another rather than march through the US Northeast.

Dc120 Fall 1907 is due Friday 26th, 8pm American EST.

This is your current deadline but the problem is I am attending the
Australian Diplomacy Championships during this time.

I will not be in internet access Thursday 25th till at least Tuesday
28th.

if you want to submit sets of 'final' moves earlier in the week.. i can
adjudicate before I leave

(approx 24 hours before the deadline).. if not.. you are going to have
to wait until I return.

DC 134 WOT - Vote results - test_gm   (Sep 13, 2007, 12:00 am)
The results are not all in, but the majority of players have already voted for a replacement.
So we will look for another player until the end of the month.
If we do not have someone by then we will vote again between CD and the random order rule (where everyone issues orders for the WCs and one set is randomly selected)
The goal here is to keep this game moving before it stagnates and loses its charm.

Dc120 Fall 1907 is due Friday 26th, 8pm American EST.

This is your current deadline but the problem is I am attending the

if you want to submit sets of 'final' moves earlier in the week.. i can
adjudicate before I leave

(approx 24 hours before the deadline).. if not.. you are going to have

One retreat due to me no later than 3pm GMT tomorrow (Wednesday): Austrian A Munich can retreat to Silesia or Bohemia.

Fall 06 is due next Tuesday 29th Jan at 3pm GMT.

A note on submitting orders: It is common courtesy to supply your orders in their own email with the subject header listing the game name (DC127) followed by the name of your power and the season for which you are ordering - lastly include the version incase you update them

ie: DC127 German orders Fall 06 V1

If you supply your orders to me in this manner it really helps administrating the game...
also - its always worth double-checking your orders before sending.

Thanks again

DC152 (wb0817) - Retreating Units after an NMR - test_gm   (Sep 13, 2007, 12:00 am)
Hi folks,

A player has pointed out to me that I missed an important section of the Tourney rules. Specifically, under the retreats section:

An NMR on a retreat phase means the units disband.

Therefore my previous statement that I would auto-retreat the Austrian units if no orders were forthcoming was in error. If Austria does not submit retreat orders, I will remove the two red units OTB.

Apologies for any confusion, and my thanks to the player in question for pointing me in the right direction. =)

Cheers,

Trout

dc130 ~ Imperial1840 ~ Spring 1843 - test_gm   (Sep 13, 2007, 12:00 am)
The Ottoman did not NMR. His orders were hung up on my mail server "in error" since 1/20. Because of this and some other recent corrections the Spring 43 turn has been readjudicated and retreats applied. This overrides the previously posted Spring 1843 adjudication.

Please, if you do not get a confirmation of orders from me, assume I did not get them and send them again using the Private Message feature of the Diplomaticcorp.com forum.

The current map images and DPY file are at: http://mainecav.org/diplomacy/dc130
