DC212 - Spring 1912 - former.trout   (Jun 09, 2009, 11:59 pm)
<Mike, please post this on the game-page.>

Heya folks,

Our French and Italian friends surface long enough to send in their orders and the war blasts on.  No Austrian solo is declared this round, at least.  Meanwhile, the lines tighten up everywhere except in Kiel where a bounce leaves the shattered countryside startlingly free of troops.

No retreats and no surrenders to speak of.  Deadline for Fall 1912 orders will be set for Monday, June 15th (11:59 PM GMT).  Please shout out if you spot any errors.

Cheers,

Tightened Lines Trout

DC212 - Two Missing Sets For Spring 1912 - former.trout   (Jun 09, 2009, 12:20 am)
Heya all,

Unfortunately, we still seem to be running into NMR issues.  I've notified the two players whose orders I'm missing and hopefully I will hear something from them later this evening.

There is one change to procedure though, that I need to advise you all of.  Due to recent site policy changes, I will be awarding our two late players an NMR in their NMR column.  As per my HRs, I will still seek out the orders and incorporate them into the turn.  However for stats tracking purposes, if you miss a deadline then you will technically be awarded an NMR.

If anyone has an issue with that, then please just let me know.  If I do not hear from our missing players by this time tomorrow evening, I will seek other means at that point.

Cheers all.  Thanks for the continued patience.

DC212 Winter 1911 - Fleets and Kiel Disbands - former.trout   (Jun 02, 2009, 12:53 am)
Heya guys,

New fleets are ordered for Edinburgh and Trieste.  No Russian disband was received, so Kiel was auto-disbanded as this unit was the furthest away from any home SCs.  (Three spaces.)

We'll keep the Austrian solo vote going.  I have some votes in hand, but haven't heard from everyone yet.  Deadline for the solo vote and for Spring 1912 orders will be set for Monday, June 8th (11:59 PM GMT).

Cheers!

DC212 - Fall 1911 Deadline Extension - former.trout   (May 28, 2009, 11:59 pm)
Heya folks,

Unfortunately due to some internet connectivity issues I had last night, I was unable to get a 24 hour deadline reminder out for the Fall 1911 turn.  While I don't guarantee that I'll get one out every turn, I did want to make sure that they were issued for these first few adjudications with me at the helm.  Just to make sure that we all get back into the cycle of things properly...

As such, we'll push the Fall 1911 deadline back 24 hours and I'll ask for all orders to be in by Friday, May 29th (11:59 PM GMT).  That gives those of you who have not received a confirmation from me roughly 19 hours to resend your moves my way.

Thanks for understanding everyone.  Cheers!

DC212 Spring 1911 - Swimming With Sharks - former.trout   (May 23, 2009, 11:47 am)
Heya guys,

Austria makes some gains into the Russian proper, but the Western Med remains locked.  Not everyone agrees with calling the game as a two-way draw so we play on.  Meanwhile, I couldn't find any orders from Jimmy.  This is the last turn we play by the default DC House Rules, so I merely accorded Jimmy an NMR and we will move on.

Please note, however, that my House Rules will take effect with the Fall 1911 turn and due to this the NMR policy will change.

One retreat was due from Russia in Moscow, but with only Livonia to fall back to I took the liberty.  Joshua, please let me know if OTB is preferred.  Deadline for Fall 1911 is set for Thursday, May 28th (11:59 PM GMT).

Please let me know if you spot any errors.  Cheers!

Heya folks,

Austria recruits two new troops - one in Trieste and one in Budapest.  Those are the thrills and the spills of Winter.  Deadline for Spring 1911 orders will be set for Friday, May 22nd (11:59 PM GMT).

On the diplomatic front, an Austrian/English 2-way draw has been proposed.  Please let me know how you feel about this with a yay or nay vote.  If you don't submit a vote, that will count as a no.  If you could send in your vote with your Spring 1911 orders, that would be great.

Cheers all!

DC212 - What Can I Say? - Fall 1910 Redux Redux - former.trout   (May 16, 2009, 6:40 pm)
Heya guys,

Well - never a dull moment I guess.  My apologies for all the confusion, I guess we misinterpreted Greg's intentions.  With William's blessing, we'll revert back to the original Fall 1910 adjudication including his orders for England.  The Winter adjudication will still be put out tomorrow afternoon.

Sorry for all the fuss, folks.  I haven't had this much fun since being kicked in the head by that cross-eyed donkey at the Carnival.  =P

Cheers!

Folks,
The King of England and the Czar of Russia have both sadly stepped down from the throne the weight of the war too much for their shoulders. The new King was sworn in today and King William IV takes the throne. A new Czar should be chosen shortly and should also be sworn in within a day or.

Headlines:

- All but a few units try to move only one makes it back home.
- Austrian troops finally take control over Sevestapool and much celebrating is done by the Austrians.
- The English try to support the one remaining Italian unit but the offer is ignored.
- The French manage to rally the Austrian's for help.

DC-212 GM Changes - Reinstatement of England - yeeha77   (May 16, 2009, 3:17 pm)
Folks,The End Game statement were my comments on my departure from the game.  The decision was made to move the game forward and we all know that once things are done they are done.  Behind the scenes I did ask for my abandon to be changed to something else or annul my participation in the game for accuracy, but I did not ask for the clock to be moved backward.

The offer of staying was unexpected, but a punishment I deserve.  But I have to decline. Sometimes in Diplomacy your goal is just to take out the person who took you out.  Nothing more, nothing less.

Jesus is about the only thing that has been successfully resurrected.  Everything else that is buried just smells real bad when you dig it up.

I am aware of the unpleasantness and hurt I caused on this forum.  But don't underestimate how I felt when I saw Abandon by my name and a new player assigned when I checked on the game on the boards.  It hurt a lot to see everything gone.   I know you only heard my rant, but there is a Chinese saying- 'It takes two hands to clap."

This hasn't been the greatest experience for many of us who started the game.   I wish you all a great experience in finishing it.

Heya guys,

With regrets, I have to let you all know that Rachael has voluntarily resigned as GM of DC-212.  She has asked me to step in for her and bring the game over the finish line.  Both she and I apologize for this slight bump in the road.

With regards to the English situation, after much review it has been decided that Greg will be allowed to resume the position of England.  The Fall 1910 turn will be re-run incorporating an English NMR.  William will be offered the very next spot in a standard game.

Please note that this does not mean that Rachael did anything wrong in replacing Greg originally.  That was her call to make at the time.  The decision to reinstate Greg was made for game continuity purposes, the theory being that if they still wish to play then it is better to go with the original players.

My house rules are attached - these are what we will be following.  However, in order to give you time to review them we will not implement them until after the Spring 1911 turn.

If there are any questions, please just let me know.  Thanks for your understanding, everyone...

Cheers!

DC212 Fall 1910 - Redux with English NMR - former.trout   (May 16, 2009, 1:09 pm)
Heya guys,

As promised, here is the re-do of the Fall 1910 turn.  The English NMR doesn't seem to hurt them too badly, and the Winter results remain the same with Austria potting two builds.

Please let me know if you spot any errors.  Since I already have Winter orders from Fredrik, I will most likely put the adjustments out tomorrow afternoon.

Thanks everyone.  Cheers!

DC-212 England Debacle - TheWhiteWolf   (May 15, 2009, 5:08 pm)
Greg,
I'm going to quote a few things you said and then argue them. I will do so in as dispassionate a tone as possible, since there are still over 20 emails about this situation that I have yet to read. I am only replying to this because I find fault with a few points, and personal attack in one.

"I asked politely to go back into the game and was told NO."
- I've seen the emails you sent to Rachael. There was nothing polite about them.

"For the record, I am sorry for offending and if my spirited discussion was taken personally."
- Spirited discussion? The use of caps lock in email correspondence generally indicates a raised voice. By that merit, quite a bit of what you call spirited discussion was actually interpreted (not just by me, I'm sure) as shouting. That's beyond discussion, and well above spirited, at least in my book.

"I think Racheal can speak for herself."
- I'm well aware that she can, when she wishes to. I do live in the same house with her, after all.

"I have yet to hear a peep."
- This is only true if you mean 'since my last abrasive email'. I know she's had plenty to say since this whole situation cropped up.

"And by the way, I tried to reserve Fignorant(at)rocketmail.com for myself, but it was taken. Maybe you have it?"
- Now you're attacking my character. I don't appreciate the label 'ignorant'. That label implies a non-understanding of a situation, a lack of knowledge or awareness, etc. You know nothing about me personally, except that I have complained about your treatment by your GM, who I happen to be married to. If that leads you to conclusions about me, then perhaps I'm not the ignorant one in this equation.

More replies forthcoming, I'm sure,
Andy

Oh Please the game has gone on. I asked politely to go back into the game and was told NO. Insofar as my language is coming out of my ass, that is where I took it.

If someone makes a mistake, they should admit and move on. That is character in my book. I didn't deserve my punishment and when you start a game you expect to finish not be eliminated on a whim.

I have been involved in countless games with worse language.

Ban me, insult me- but don't tell me I deserved what I got.

For the record, I am sorry for offending and if my spirited discussion was taken personally. But yes I am pissed and I think any other person in my shoes would be pissed.

DC 212 Error in adjudication - Verticallychallangedcutie   (May 15, 2009, 3:32 pm)
Folks,
Fredrik noticed another error in the adjudication, and I have fixed it. He did not order

Austria:
F Black Sea Supports A Sevastopol - Livonia

He actually ordered:
Austria:
F Black Sea - Constantinople

I have fixed the map and dpy file and the change is reflected in the map. Please note that with this change Austria receives 2 builds not one.

Moderators and players of 212,
As an upstanding member of the community and Rachael's husband, I hereby officially request that Greg, the player causing the huge problem for this game, be removed from the community.
Mods, let me explain myself:

- If a player NMRs, for whatever reason, it is the GMs decision whether to keep the player or not. Knowing how to correctly spell the work "challenged" is, while commendable on Greg's part, immaterial to the case at hand. That is not how it's spelled in Rachael's email addres, so he screwed up. Plain and simple. Going as far over the deadline as he did, and with no communication with the GM, adverselt affects the game and the other players, and is thus justification for replacement.
- On that note, replacing a player is the GMs decision. There are several good and justifiable reasons to replace a player. Being that overdue on orders, and holding up the game, is one of them.

However, neither of these points is justification for removing someone from the site. Let's get into that.

- Greg personally insulted Rachael. I would have been offended even were she not my wife. Personal attacks are beyond the pale. "fugly(at)rocketmail.com", "the GM is being a baby", "your integrity is pathetic" ... I think Greg's integrity is what should be under the microscope here, but I wouldn't go so far as to say pathetic in a public forum. That would be a personal attack, which I would like to think I'm mature enough to keep out of the Dip community.
- Greg complained that he had put up with countless delays and inconsistencies. He is now the cause of the delay, while the whole game is paused to listen to his rant. He is continuing to be a detriment to the game, even though he's no longer a part of it. He is also becoming a detriment to the site, by showing every party involved how childish he is, and by affecting opinions about the GM.

Mods, if you don't feel Greg's removal is warranted, please let me know privately. I made this call public to spur immediate action. If that action is refused, I'd like to know as soon as possible so that I can take appropriate personal action. That may range from blacklisting the offender, which will be done anyway, to leaving the site myself. I don't wish to be part of a site that allows or encourages this behavior.

DC-212 England Debacle (dc212) TheWhiteWolf May 15, 05:08 pm
Greg,
I'm going to quote a few things you said and then argue them.

Andy, I think Racheal can speak for herself. I have yet to hear a peep. And by the way, I tried to reserve Fignorant(at)rocketmail.com for myself, but it was taken. Maybe you have it?

Folks,
The King of England and the Czar of Russia have both sadly stepped down from the throne the weight of the war too much for their shoulders. The new King was sworn in today and King William IV takes the throne. A new Czar should be chosen shortly and should also be sworn in within a day or.

- All but a few units try to move only one makes it back home.
- Austrian troops finally take control over Sevestapool and much celebrating is done by the Austrians.
- The English try to support the one remaining Italian unit but the offer is ignored.

Folks,
Russia has asked to be removed from the game and replaced. He is leaving for a few weeks at the end of the month and doesn't wish to hold the game up. I have orders from Russia already so I will go ahead and use those as soon as England sends in his orders. So while we are waiting for a new Czar you guys can get your turn out.

Thank you.
