DC 281 Winter 1902 - psychosis1973   (Dec 15, 2009, 3:01 pm)
Adjustments have been made after conflict in Europe during 1902, with Turkey raising three forces, Russia an army in Moscow, and France a fleet in Brest

Unfortunately, England didn't notify me of which force he wanted to disband. As such, I applied the guidelines in my house rules, meaning that the English fleet in MAO was disbanded as it is the furthest force from England's home centres. This doesn't count as an NMR, as it's not a major (Spring or Fall) turn.

We now move on to Spring 1903, with a deadline of 2100 GMT on Monday 21 December. I'd be looking to get any retreats in by Wednesday 23rd, and then set a deadline for Fall moves of Wednesday 30th to avoid the holiday weekend. Anyone with any problems with these indicative deadlines, let me know.

ORDERS

England:
Remove F Mid-Atlantic Ocean
France:
Build F Brest
Russia:
Build A Moscow
Turkey:
Build F Constantinople
Build F Smyrna
Build A Ankara

OK, if everyone gets moves in by Friday that they mark as final, I'll adjudicate at 2100 GMT. For clarity, I'm treating all moves received so far for this turn as prelims. If you want them made final moves, you'll need to indicate that in another email to me.

Otherwise, I'll adjudicate on Monday

This doesn't count as an NMR, as it's not a major (Spring or Fall) turn.

We now move on to Spring 1903, with a deadline of 2100 GMT on Monday 21 December. I'd be looking to get any retreats in by Wednesday 23rd, and then set a deadline for Fall moves of Wednesday 30th to avoid the holiday weekend. Anyone with any problems with these indicative deadlines, let me know.

DC 281 Autumn 1902 - psychosis1973   (Dec 14, 2009, 3:36 pm)
Retreats have been made, and the English fleet sets sail for Iberia, whilst over in the east, the Tsar chooses to scuttle his fleet rather than be forced to sail to Armenia

We now move to the Winter 1902 adjustment phase, with orders needed from four players (albeit one has already submitted an adjustment).

Can we have these adjustments by 2100 GMT tomorrow please (15th December) - short deadline, but this was notified with the Fall 1902 results

Russia:

DC 281 Fall 1902 - psychosis1973   (Dec 11, 2009, 3:35 pm)
Fall 1902 sees the first real clashes across the map, with a Turkish army taking Sevastopol thanks to Austria getting involved in Ukraine. Russia compensates in the North by taking Norway from England, whilst in the west, England and France continue their dance. England sees a convoy fail, whilst in the south Italy and Austria continue to face off over Trieste and Vienna.

Unfortunately, this turn saw our first NMR - Germany didn't submit orders by the deadline, so all their forces hold. This is Germany's first NMR, and a second NMR will see them declared as being in civil disorder, and a replacement player may be sought. Can I remind folk of the important of submitting preliminaries to avoid close to the deadline problems?

First retreats of the game are needed this turn...can we have these by Monday 14th at 2100 GMT from England and Russia please. I'd look to be getting Winter adjustments in by Wednesday 16th, but if the retreats are in early, I may be able to make the winter deadline for Tuesday.

Attenzione, attenzione! Vistoso stato trasmissione! We would like to alert all Western powers of the operating status of our transmission towers. They are fully functional and awaiting your call. Operators are bored as hell and standing by. Italian alliance now 50% off, cooperation a staggering 85% off. We have a grand history of conquering everything in sight. Julius Caesar, Augustus Caesar, Charlemagne if he was actually Holy Roman. Remember those crusades? Want the good old days of murderin' and pillagin', and without any worry of "international backlash?" So do we! Unless you don't. Then screw the old days, we welcome the future! Whatever it is you want, we'll also tell you we want! It's just that simple. Input desires, output results!

DC 281 Spring 1902 moves - psychosis1973   (Dec 07, 2009, 3:12 pm)
Conflict continues across Europe, with another set of strange moves - France and England continue their dance around their borders, with lots of bounces resulting. Germany edges forces west, whilst in the south, Italy tries to take Trieste and the Ionian but is rebuffed by Austria. The only power who seems to have done well out of the Spring 1902 moves is Turkey, who takes two vacant Balkan provinces in Rumania and Serbia.

Amazingly, no retreats in the game as yet, so we move straight on to Fall 1901. Folk indicated they'd like a fairly fast moving game, so let's see if we can get another turn in by the end of the week, with a deadline of Friday 11th December at 2100GMT.

No one's shouted to object to deadlines over the holiday period, so I'll keep the game running through the end of December, but avoiding the weekend of the 25th - 28th.

Only a few hours early, but everyone's sent in their builds, so I've run the winter adjustments. Three armies and five fleets are raised across Europe, as the intentions of some powers become clearer...

Deadline for Spring 1902 moves is Monday 7th December 2100 GMT

Can I also ask everyone to email me with their preference for deadlines over Christmas. I'm available throughout the Christmas period, but I recognise that others may have arrangements that keep them away from net access...

I would absolutely hate to think that we've had a supreme diplomat abandon ship at this early stage of the game.

And the Fall 1901 moves see more craziness and strife across Europe...

Bizarre goings on between Italy and Austria as armies clash in Vienna but an Italian army elsewhere seems keen to help an Austria army back into Trieste. Russia and Turkey clash in Bucharest, with no victor, whilst in the West, the French fleet likes the look of the Belgian beers, only to be replaced in the channel by an English fleet. Germany seems to be the only power not engulfed by conflict, and is also the only power to get two builds...coincidence?

As a special treat, I've received some rumours from an unidentified source

MESSAGE STARTS
The unpleasenttries of the past seem to have started to resolve themselves -- The Italians and the Austrians -- The Russians and the English --- The French and everyone else. Rumour has it that the Russians are seeking to build a small Tea-Room in London and is taking reservations -- Rumour has it that the sultan is at a loss as to whom to move against --- May of Old Man of Europe find his way -- The Dauphin is indeed a crafty person with support from the Italians and the Austrians --- Oh, What Tangled Webs we weave.

And the Spring 1901 moves are
in...many thanks to all for getting moves in on time, and
for getting us the first season in successfully

And a very interesting set of
moves it is too, with a mix of orthodox and unorthodox
openings...in the West, France seems to be attacking
everyone, but finds himself bounced in Burgundy, whilst
England commits to the north, and Germany opens fairly
neutrally.

In the East, Austria annexes
Galicia, but finds two Italian forces knocking on the door
in Trieste. Russia sends an army north, and a bounce
in the Black Sea suggests Russia and Turkey haven't
resolved their differences

Subject: DC 281 Spring 1901

And the Spring 1901 moves are in...many thanks to all for getting moves in on time, and for getting us the first season in successfully

And a very interesting set of moves it is too, with a mix of orthodox and unorthodox openings...in the West, France seems to be attacking everyone, but finds himself bounced in Burgundy, whilst England commits to the north, and Germany opens fairly neutrally.

In the East, Austria annexes Galicia, but finds two Italian forces knocking on the door in Trieste. Russia sends an army north, and a bounce in the Black Sea suggests Russia and Turkey haven't resolved their differences

Attached are the RealPolitick file for the game, and files detailing the Spring moves and resolution of the moves. The game page on the DC website has also been updated.

We move straight on to Fall 1901, for which the deadline is Tuesday 24th November, 2100GMT

I'm ok, except I'd like to point out that Thursday is Thanksgiving, at least for us Americans. Might I suggest an extension until Thursday morning/noontime? That gives a bonus day but doesn't put us Yanks at any disadvantage against any last minute squabbling by you slimy Brits/Canadians/etc. It also means, after a wonderful day of family, we'll all come home to the grim realities of a cruel, heartless, backstabbing and lying world. How wonderful!

How could the world go back to the way it was when so much bad had happened? But in the end, it's only a passing thing. The shadow, even the darkness must pass. A new day will come.

"It's like in the great stories, Mr. Frodo. The ones that really mattered. Full of darkness and danger they were. and sometimes you didn't want to know the end because how could the end be happy? How could the world go back to the way it was when so much bad had happened? But in the end, it's only a passing thing. The shadow, even the darkness must pass. A new day will come. And when the sun shines it will shine out the clearer. Those were the stories that stayed with you - That meant something. Even if you were too small to understand why. But I think, Mr. Frodo, I do understand. I know now. Folk in those stories had lots of chances of turning back only they didn't. They kept going because they were holding onto something."
"What are we holding onto, Sam?"
"That there's some good in this world, Mr. Frodo. And it's worth fighting for."

DC 281 Spring 1901 (dc281) psychosis1973 Nov 27, 06:56 am

Can we extend the deadline? I've been at a conference this weekend, and wi-fi was $10 a day, which I consider a bit outrageous. So I've been out of touch. Can we have another few days? And sorry everyone, I have not bee ignoring you. Right now I am on a 20 minute complimentary wi-fi at O'hare, so can't respond right now either. Thanks all. Sorry for the delay. I thought I'd have access.

This is a test of the Tzar's new computer system Smile Oh Joy ---

I am assuming this goes out to all on game (DC 281) -- I must appologize that I have never had such communications with the other player in a game --- my experience being mostly face to face and the earlier judge programs where all communications (white, black and grey) were by e-mail.

Do not assume you need to respond --- this is an old man (or dog) trying new tricks.
