Player list dc135 - holyyakker at gmail.com   (Jan 17, 2008, 2:23 pm)
Okay Boys and Girls (my apologies to any hermaphrodites whom I failed to mention). It looks like we may be back on track, again. My apologies for the numerous delays and such but with luck we'll be able to get back on a season a week schedule. Below is the updated contact information, please play nice with the new Turkish ruler (or don't, this is Diplomacy I suppose).

DEADLINE FOR FALL 04 IS FRIDAY JANUARY 25th AT 8:00PM EST! This gives you over a week to work it all out and figure out what you all wish to do. Please send preliminary moves - since it's been causing more confusion than enjoyment I'm going to nix the idea of speedy turnaround and stick to regular schedule from now on.

Those who have already submitted moves I will consider them valid, but if you want to change please feel free to email me updates.

Again, my sincerest apologies for the delays and hangups.

ORDERS/RESULTS:
Russia:
F Berlin - Prussia

Turkey:
F Black Sea - Constantinople
A Serbia - Bulgaria

As I have not heard from Turkey and I have a player waiting in the wings I'm going to go ahead and replace that player. My apologies for replacements and delays. It is frustrating when a player falls off the face of the earth without a single messages.

I will issue a deadline for Fall moves as soon as the new Turkey is confirmed and set to go.

Build A Liverpool

France:

I would tell you all to play nice - but I know that isn't going to happen.

There is still an outstanding build order from a few people. I will be sending individual reminders following this email. I would like to get build results out to you for Wednesday January 3rd.

The next move will not be due till Monday January 7th - this should give you plenty of time to discuss your situation with your neighbors.

DC135 Fear & Loathing - test_gm   (Sep 13, 2007, 12:00 am)
I'd certainly like to add my thanks to Trout for taking over the game and steering us most capably through to a conclusion!

Three of the four of the survivors were replacements, and the game does show how much easier it is for replacements to put the strategic situation ahead of the personal history (at least to begin with!). When I took over Turkey things were pretty desperate - down to 4 centres with the Italian in Smy and an E/F on the way to conquering the world. Clearly until the E/F could be shaken our only chance was for everyone else to team up....

Fortunately Andy as the Austrian was also new and we managed to make the unusual A/I co-operation work through to game end. The 2 SC Russia was also willing to help, but there was no shifting the Italian and, sadly, during the year or so it took to eject him from Turkey and the eastern Med, France managed to secure a lock on the western end. I worked with F for a few turns to remove the Italian, but with an eye firmly on getting to the ION-Ven-Sev statemate which Andy and I came within one SC of securing...but we had to gamble to get the last unit in place and it didn't quite come off.

We'd tried everything we could diplomatically to shake the E/F but with no success right through to the original England's unexplained disappearance. England had the best position and hence the upper hand; whether the original E ever intended to break for the solo was never clear, but certainly Jorge was blessed with as good a replacement position as anyone's ever likely to get..and he handled the opportunity very well.

With a new England everything changed - since F appeared closed to anything other than the original E/F and we weren't strong enough to hold out alone the only option was working with England for long enough to gain the upper hand against F but not so long that the solo became unstoppable. It was good working with him whilst it lasted, and Jorge is probably right that we decided to act one turn too late - but with F determined to hand over the solo by throwing his position, rather than playing the game, really the end was inevitable whatever we had done. Except for the last spring turn, I think Andy and I read Jorge pretty well, and I hope he feels we at least gave him a run for his money....congratulations to the winner, and thanks again to Trout for rescuing us mid-game.

Ian

DC135 Fear & Loathin - test_gm   (Sep 13, 2007, 12:00 am)
To all my foes,
This was a great game. You all missed it, but the swift destruction of Germany from 6 to 0 in one year by Russia, England, and France, about 1903 (all orchestrated by France) was awesome. I can say that I defeated six of my enemies, and I lost when England, my puppet left. I could have won easily right as the old England left, but the replacement Jorge came so quickly. As each player was eliminated or quit, my zeal to play waned. England had always had a better position over me, and the fact that Turkey kept sending all his reinforcements into the Med as fleets spelled out that he was not capable of fighting a war against England, but only against me. Sorry Turkey, it could never have worked. Alas.....

I do have one point to brag on. None of my home cities were devastated by the horrors of war. In fact, none of them were even attacked by any alien army. Only Piccardy was ever occupied, and at the very end, but briefly. Edinburgh was sacked and burned by marauding Germans, and the Turk city of Smyrna was occupied in a similar fashion by the Italians. The invaders probably smashed all of the fine art they could find, and may have shot the mayor or something.

I must say that I am glad it over. I had always wanted a short war so as to not upset my other duties in life. I spent a lot of time early on writing relly long letters to almost all the players. Once vistory seemed to be out of reach, I thought I would try to settle for a quick end, but the English war-monger opted for a longer and bloody war.

Congrats to all you replacements: England for the vistory, Austria for never dying, and Turkey... I have no kind words for you.

-Eric

One final note to put the finishing touch on DC-135. England wished to change their retreat from Ukraine to Rumania. This adds a center to the English SC count, upping them to 19. In addition, it ties Turkey with France for second place at 6 centers apiece.

DC135 Fear And Loathing - One Final Loathe, No Mor... - test_gm   (Sep 13, 2007, 12:00 am)
Hey Everyone

Thank for a very enjoyable game and for keeping me involved. Right from the point I took over as the Austrian leader the situation was grim and I could never get my feet planted but I guess I must have done something right to make myself more useful than to be eliminated. Congratulations Jorge on the solo, I think we all knew it was inevitable, Ian had a plan to force a draw but I made a mistake and we lost our chance to get that set up. Sorry Ian.

A special thank you to Trout for a game well run, we always appreciate the effort put in by the Gm's that make these gaming experiences possible.

Thank Again

Andy

DC135 Fear And Loathing - One Final Loathe, No Mor... - test_gm   (Sep 13, 2007, 12:00 am)
Thanks everyone,

My first attempt at dictatorship was quite a challenge, just as I
expected it to be, but this was a good group to have that experience
with. Who would have thought a game could be this stressful? (Or long?
LOL To think we started back in November...)
In the end I think I've decided the game is not for me (though I suppose
never say never...), but I'm glad to have had the experience.
My thanks to all the other players, and especially to the Trout, and to
Nicholas whose colorful narratives of the moves really added a little
extra something to the game.

DC135 Fear & Loathing - Fall 1913 - A Wave Bre... - test_gm   (Sep 13, 2007, 12:00 am)
ENGLAND OEG

First of all, thank you to Trout for running yet another superlative, entertaining, near-flawless game - this time in relief. His first act was to let me replace England, and I'm grateful for that as well, since England was in very good strategic position.

The only point in taking it was to solo, and France effectively stood in my way. I contacted Turkey and Austria, and learned that neither were big fans of France. Austria said he's be neutral, and Turkey agreed to work together, starting with dispatching the last Russian unit. France wanted me to work together for a draw, and we both raced to secure our lines against the other. I got there first and attacked. Given that A/T rarely got in my way, and usually helped in some way, France didn't have much of a chance. I took advantage of the geopolitics to just grind him down methodically, and he graciously accepted the inevitable. A/T decided they didn't want to make my solo so easy, and moved against me just after it was too late. I don't know why they didn't do it earlier, but I'm not complaining. All in all, I thought everyone played their hand as well as they could have, and I was the beneficiary of the baggage that preceded me.

DC135 Fear & Loathing - Fall 1913 - A Wave Bre... - test_gm   (Sep 13, 2007, 12:00 am)
Folks,

All good things come to those who wait - and for Jorge of England the good thing that comes is a solo victory. Yes, DC-135 Fear And Loathing wraps in the days of Fall 1913 as England forces the door open in Spain and gains the coveted 18th center. Congratulations to Jorge for the solo win. Kudoes also to the survivors - Eric, Ian and Andy - for hanging in there. And thanks also to all the players who contributed to the effort of the game. Admittedly, I wasn't around to watch it from the beginning but it was quite the ride when I got here. =)

A note about the final SC count - The English army in Sevastopol was dislodged and had the option to retreat to Ukraine or Rumania. For the end-game result, I auto-retreated to the Ukraine. However, if Jorge wishes to pursue the Rumanian route then the English SC count will rise to 19 and the Turkish will lower accordingly. (Jorge, if this is your choice then please let me know ASAP and I will change it.) The game result would remain the same, but what would change would be the statistics maintained on the website.

Once again, congratulations to Jorge for another impressive win, and hats off to all of you players for making quite a game of it - especially towards the end. End-Of-Game (EOG) statements are greatly encouraged.

Cheers everyone! See you all in the next one.

DC135 - Winter 09 Adjustments - test_gm   (Sep 13, 2007, 12:00 am)
Hey folks,

Well, this adjudication was a long time in coming. My apologies for that - I admit that I might have waited a little too long here for Nick to get back in contact. Game-wise, Turkey builds in Constantinople and England in Edinburgh...

A DIAS has been tabled for your consideration. Please have your yay or nay vote on that turned in with your Spring 1910 orders. I'll set the deadline for Monday, June 23rd (11:59 PM GMT). HOWEVER - if all sets of orders are turned in and marked final, I'll adjudicate early seeing as how we've already experienced such a long delay.

Please turn orders in to me. It looks as though I'll be running the helm for the forseeable future.

Cheers all!

DC135 Fear & Loathing - Fall 1909 - test_gm   (Sep 13, 2007, 12:00 am)
Hey folks,

The game flavour spices itself up a little with the Fall 1909 orders. It proves to be too hot for our good Tsar, however, as with Turkish support the English provide the golden bullet. A bullet is received by the Brits in kind, however, as Austria strikes back in Budapest - narrowly avoiding disaster in Rumania. And tempers flare between the Western powers with a bounce in the Irish Sea...

There was one retreat resulting from all of that - due from the Russian in Sevastopol. As the unit would be disbanded in the Winter phase anyways however, I took the liberty and retreated it OTB. My gratitude to Steven for playing this tune right out to the end.

Thus we move into the Winter 1909 adjustments. One build each is due from England and Turkey. Please submit these to both myself and to Nick - I believe Mr. Mercier will be taking the reigns back with the Winter as I bow out gracefully. I'll tentatively set the deadline for Tuesday, June 3rd (11:59 PM GMT) however stay tuned for word from Nick as he might change that up a little.

Thanks everyone. Just let me know if you spot any errors. Cheers!

DC135 - Replacement England - test_gm   (Sep 13, 2007, 12:00 am)
Hiya folks,

With regrets it looks as though I'm going to have to replace our intrepid English player - owing to his Spring NMR and my complete inability to get in touch with him. I'm extremely happy to welcome Jorge Saralegui to the game. Jorge has been good enough to come in to help us play this one out - his email address is below with the player roster.

I realize this Fall turn has seemed like ages in coming, but we're going to push it back two more days to allow Jorge just a little more time to diplome. Fall 1909 orders will be due Saturday, May 31st (11:59 PM GMT).

Cheers everyone. Game on!
