A&E 090205 / DC240: The Fall 1767 season has been adjudicated, resulting in jubilation on the streets of Copenhagen and Istanbul, with each player earning multiple builds this winter. This marks the second straight successful campaign for the Danes, who grabbed the sure SC in St Petersburg, and then managed to sneak in Breslau as well. Turkey has 3 builds, with 2 taken at Austrian expense in Barcelona and Two Sicilies, and the third gain in the Crimea. With those gains, Turkey moves into a tie for the lead, along with Great Britain at 8 SCs.
There is less joy in Moscow, which fell to Prussia, such that the Tsar's subjects were forced to follow him north to the last remaining Russian redoubt in Finland. Turning to Austria, is it possible for the same player to stab you in back-to-back seasons? Apparently, as Austria has twice submitted orders indicating a Habsburg-Ottoman partnership, but twice Turkish orders have been hostile to Vienna. This was doubly painful because Austria wasted the support of the Papal States to re-take Two Sicilies. Nonetheless, this season was not disastrous for Austria, who dislodged the Polish invaders from Vienna while covering the possible Polish retreat to Venice. Despite an opportunity for the British/French forces, Austria lost no ground on the battlefront stretching from Dresden to Switzerland, although the destruction of their ally Spain's army in Languedoc is a significant setback due to the inability of Spain to rebuild that unit.
Only one retreat order is needed, from Poland & Saxony, and I will adjudicate as soon as I receive it. The following deadlines are Winter 1767 on Mon Apr 27th and Spring 1768 on Thu Apr 30th.
Before the adjudication, we have two dueling sets of entertaining press between the British and their anonymous critic.
PRESS #1 (British)
Press from England:
Pushy: Austrian Diplomacy
Push-back: When neighboring countries get so tired of pushy diplomacy that they start acting against it.
It is a day for the friends of England to shine in the sun. We congratulate Turkey for a wonderful stab. We congratulate Denmark/Norway on rising to a position of power after being at two centers for so long. We congratulate France from coming back from the brink of death. We look forward to celebrating next year with a big French-run gala in Marseilles.
Of course, it will get bloody between us friends at some point in time. But best to battle for the spoils between friends, right?
Press #2 (Anonymous)
Read 'em and weep:
Spring 1767
England to Anonymous: Nice definitions. Only real problem is that I’ve “stabbed†one person in this game, and it’s the Frenchman that I’m currently supporting. It’s a pretty far stretch to say I stabbed Spain when I knew he was actively working against us.
Spring 1766
England to Spain: You might be surprised (shocked) at these moves, but the English government felt they were necessary. In short, the consensus feeling was that you were more concerned with getting centers immediately than focusing on the task at hand...
Fall 1764
London to Austria: Jorge, you're either stunned, not very surpised, angry, or you were looking for it (or told about it)...
Spring 1763England to France: Sorry Mike. I had to pick a target, and truth is, your neighbors wrote and coordinated a lot more...
