A&E 090205 / DC240: The Fall 1768 season has been adjudicated. First, allow me to apologize for the late adjudication. I severely sprained my ankle playing soccer tonight, and I've spent the last couple hours on my bed with my ankle iced and elevated, and with my head a little dizzy from pain and then painkillers. I debated waiting until tomorrow morning to adjudicate, but this season is too juicy to wait.

Where to begin...! The most earth-shaking event has to be the apparent breakup of the western triumverate of Britain, France, and Turkey. H.M. Frank decided he had waited long enough and seized Brest, while Roi Mike ejected the Turks from al-Andalus. The Habsburgs managed to hold onto their gain in Two Sicilies, and fend off a Turkish-Polish attack in Vienna. The final result in the Med is that Turkey is down two supply centers, Austria is up one, and the alliances are scrambled now that the British-French marriage appears to have ended in broken crockery and divorce. Turkey has a very tough choice to make with the disbands, as their hordes are on the rampage in eastern Europe, but the Sultan cannot afford to surrender ground in the Med either, with half of the Turkish SCs located in the Maghreb.

Turning to the east, Prussia has the dubious accomplishment of having all 3 of their armies dislodged in the same turn. Prussia still hangs on to their SC in Warsaw, and will face an interesting decision regarding which unit to retain. Although the Tsar lost Abo, he surely was willing to sacrifice his Finnish sanctuary in order to return to his capital in Moscow. Most impressive is the Danes, who seemed to be facing a potential catastrophe after the spring, and not only averted disaster but actually netted 1 SC gain this year, despite losing Berlin to the Brits. Speaking of the Redcoats, Frank quietly had a huge year, with 3 SC gains scattered across Europe that have pushed him into the clear #1 spot.

Retreat orders are needed from Prussia and Turkey. They are due Fri May 8th. Winter adjustment orders are needed by Mon May 11th.

We have two sets of press before the adjudication.

Press #1 (Peanut Gallery)
"The Peanut Gallery to Britain: Frank, playing for a shared victory with Dave Denmark & Norway?
How would you sleep at night? A shared win? PLAYING for a shared win? I
will be truly disappointed in you, Frank, if this game ends up in a
some antiseptic draw.
Is the day where people play to win the
game now past? Am I in an ever-shrinking pool of players who would
understand if I were stabbed by another in the search of SOLO victory?
Maybe I just need to stick with playing chess on-line. There, draws
actually mean something."

Press #2 (British)
England to France: Sorry Mike.

Diplomacy games may contain lying, stabbing, or deliberately deceiving communications that may not be suitable for and may pose a hazard to young children, gullible adults, and small farm animals.
