Players -
The public peanut gallery option has been voted down, but no worries there, we proceed with the game.
Mike - if you still want to participate in a private (sent to GM and other kibitzers only, not the list or players) kibitzer panel, I can assemble one (I think I know a few others that might be interested) and receive all commentary privately, which I will collect and publish with a full Realpolitik game history upon completion of the game. Let me know, and I'll be glad to do that.
In other news, we have our game number! This is game of Dark Ages V3 is now officially branded as DC 262: Angstskrik, with much gratitude to our hosts at Diplomatic Corp.
Enjoy your game!
Your GM,
B.

I had not yet posed that question to the players Mike, but this seems a suitable time to do so.
Players - there has been some discussion of possibly running this game as a peanut gallery game, where a set panel of commentators maintains an ongoing public commentary on the DC message board on anything and everything with the game - their thoughts on the strategies and tactics of the players, their predictions of what they'll do next, map design and variant dynamics etc. etc. plus of course, all the comical press they can think up.
This can be very entertaining, and is priceless from a variant design perspective, to iron out any bugs in the variant. First and foremost however, this is *your* game, set up for *your* enjoyment. You seven have absolute veto authority over this, and need not identify yourself publicly with your vote. Please contact me privately with your preference on whether or not to run this as a peanut gallery game. I will announce the results when all votes are in. Peanut gallery games can be great fun, but I have also found some people that did not like them in the past. So if anyone is opposed, we will not allow this feature, but I do ask all to consider the option.
That said, we have received confirmation from all seven players, so Mike, if I may have a game number, we'll get the game underway. Once I have all the votes, we'll see if the peanut gallery option is enacted, and if so, assemble a panel of commentators.
Everyone was able to get either their first or second choice of position, courtesy of a few kind souls that voiced no preference Without further ado, may I introduce:
Nick Higgins - Cyning of the Angles and Saxons (Anglo-Saxons)

and me, your humble GM, B. (Benjamin Hester) - please send all messages to me to BOTH

Please send all orders (preferably all messages to me) on a new message (not a reply) with a subject line as follows:
DCXXX(game number to be announced): Angstskrik - (Country) (Season + Year) (Prelim/Final Orders)
Appears as: DCXXX: Angstskrik - Anglo-Saxons Spring 825 Final Orders
This helps me ensure that only your final set of orders are used in adjudication. Thanks for your assistance with this.
Finally the all important part - Spring 825 deadline is Thursday, June 23 2009, 1700 EST. Please send prelims as soon as possible, to ensure that we have no NMRs. I ask that everyone submit prelims as soon as possible after adjudications to ensure that this is an NMR-free game enjoyable for everyone. Don't forget to send your votes on the peanut-gallery option ASAP too. Please use and check the Diplomatic Corp page often for most current maps and all other game materials. I have attached the starting map here for your convenience. I also encourage everyone to download and use the Realpolitik files for this variant, available on the Diplomatic Corp variant page. This game is being played on the most current version of Dark Ages, Version 3 - *be certain YOU are using that version* - on both the map and the Realpolitik files.
*whew* - that should be it. Please, if anyone has any house rules, DC core rules, variant specific, or any questions at all - let's hear them as many of them as possible during this period before the first season is adjudicated. That aside, have fun - let the negotiations and the plunder of nations begin!

Subject: Re:002 - Dark Ages Confirmation
All right gents -
Just a quick confirmation before we kick off the latest round of Dark Ages -
please give me a reply to this email to confirm that you are still on board
and committed to playing this game. Include a copy of your country
preferences (if any) if I do not have them already.
If anyone does need to back out for any reason, we do have an 8th player,
Jorge Saralegui, ready and waiting. Please advise if so...otherwise...as
soon as I have 7 confirmations, we'll open this game and get it underway!
Welcome to the Dark Ages!
