DC91ers,
Thanks obviously to Mike who GM’ed like a star and helped answer my questions when I asked them.
So Russia’s story,
As soon as I saw some newbies joining the game I thought this was the one for me ( I had only 2 previous games of standard under my belt) and it was about time I got back to standard Diplomacy. Ron joined up and even before we were assigned our countries we agreed to form some form of alliance. It was this alliance that kept me in the game and eventually gave me a part of the 3-way.
So Austria and Russia had an agreement and it was from there that I tired to form some sort of alliance with Germany and England so that I could get into Turkey. I wanted to share Scandinavia with them. The opening moves from them were ok but Turkeys’ move was immediately aggressive and meant that my fleet was stranded in the Black Sea trying to support Sev. Germany and England moved in on stp after bouncing me out of Sweden. Then Germany stopped playing. It’s always a shame when this happens as it totally changed the game. I managed to side with Cory/England while we cleared up Germany and meanwhile in the South I managed to knock out Turkey with a lot of help from Italy and Austria.
It was then that I had to make a decision. I know a lot of players would have stabbed Austria as there were many opportunities for me to take unguarded centres from Ron. I am probably too honest for this game and honoured our agreement which resulted in the 3-way stalemate. Well done Ron on your first game and well done Cory for always being in with a shout of a solo until the very end. I hope to work with you both again.
Thanks again to Mike
