Persian EOG:
Many apologies for my tardiness in writing this EOG, especially when
you consider how little there really is to say.
The game started out with a lot of diplomacy flying around, but the
only neighbor really talking to me was Adam. An Egyptian / Persian
alliance seemed perfect way to start, nice and safe. Adam turned out
to be a great communicator and strategizer.
Sam (Greece) and I talked a (very) little bit, and by Spring 299, it
was clear that I'd be pushing full steam ahead against him. Gerald
(Carthage) was working up in Iberia and Adam and I careful crafted a
plan to split the Med.
Throughout the game, different partners were proposed to add to the EP
alliance, starting with Carthage, possibly Greece, ending with Rome.
But besides Carthage at the start, I felt EP had the game pretty well
in-hand. Maybe the game would end with a 2-way draw, or maybe we'd
fight it out once all others were gone.
At times, Adam and I backed ourselves into near-breakdown, but mostly
it was due to a misinterpretation of one or the other's thoughts.
Those usually lasted for one season at most, more often than not, we
worked it out by being slightly less aggressive. But we also were
both careful to keep enough units near our homes as detente against
major stabs!
In the end, when the EP Draw was proposed, we had the choice of end it
here, or drag the game on to a possibly "High Noon" shootout. Too
many variables, and truthfully not enough free time, made my decision
easy: take the points and run.
Great quick game all! Lots of fun!
