“seismicing the hell out of”… I checked
www.m-w.com, and they have no record. Is this going to become a
www.dipwiki.com entry?

Subject: (DC) DC99 Seismic - Austrian EOG
Well, well, well. The ribbon wrapped on another just in time for Christmas. =)
Big congratulations to Warren for the very well-deserved solo. I'm not sure, but at the end of it he might have had everyone on the board doing what they could to make sure that he won. That, my friend, is a true diplomat at work. It was some crazy voodoo that you laid down on us Warren, but it was effective. And with the pedigree of my fellow players on the board - its definitely one to be proud of.
And my thanks to those who shared the savage beating with me. I laughed, I cried, I shook my fist in Penger's general direction. This one definitely hit all the highs and lows.
But - to business. I made a lot of mistakes in this game - that's fo shur. I believe Austria's high point was Winter 1901 after I had kicked off to a three-build start. After that, it was a real rocky ride.
Mike, what can I say bro? After stabbing you brutally at the beginning of the game, you were still willing to come to the table and help me trot out the Turkey. That was true sportsmanship, man. Between our alliance and the central-power agreement that I had between me, Steve and Kevin - things looked very promising. But after Turkey was wrapped, the big question surfaced: stab east or stab west?
My first instinct was probably the correct one. I ensured a truce with Mike and moved against Steve. But then our month-long break happened over Summer, and Steve literally chatted at me every day to work with him instead of fighting him. I made a screw-up and moved out of the territory I had taken of his and found myself in doubt. Moving east and securing that map edge sure seemed like a good idea to me...
Thus, I stabbed Mike yet again, this time stabbing Kevin too. Helping Steve and Warren out against Kevin, I moved north against Mike. The deal was that I would attack Mike, and Steve would attack Warren - who at this point was quickly becoming the true threat of the game. As such, as an act of good faith, I spent three turns seismicing the hell out of the Med so that Steve would have an easy crack at getting fleets out against England.
All the while I did this, Steve tightened the noose around me. Things were happening in real life at this point as well, which proved a distraction. I missed a builds deadline and got NBR'd which hurt. Steve moved in even tighter and at that point I realized that he had NO intention whatsoever of attacking England... I had been played for a total patsy.
Due to some pretty intense RL stuff going on at the time, my usual stoic reserve was completely shattered. I admit that at this point, I may have over-reacted. The short story is that I resolved to do everything in my power to keep Italy from even placing in a draw in this game.
The last several game years, I played like a putz. I threw every road-block I could in Italy's direction, stalemated his every avenue of expansion that I could possibly plug up and did what I could to throw the game to first Mike, and then when that went sour to Warren.
My efforts were only a SMALL part of why Warren soloed - please don't get me wrong. (His kick-ass play was the major reason..) But I like to think that the efforts of Mike and myself might have made some minor things easier for him in the end.
Anyways, it is what it is. My thanks to Sims for running what must have been a hell of a game to adjudicate, and my thanks to my fellow players for putting up with me for yet another one. Congrats Warren - it was a great game.
Cheers,
Trout

Warren is on Santa's good list and Italy's not-so-good list as he takes 3 from Italy and 1 from Austria, catapulting him to an 18 SC SOLO VICTORY!
Congrats Warren!
I'm picking some random retreats for Italy, tho they are irrelevant as the final resting spot of the Italian units cannot change the outcome.
Italy:
Retreat Ber (can only go to Sil), retreating to Sil
Retreat Mun (can only go to Sil), retreating OTB
Retreat Rum (can go to Ukr or Gal), retreating to Gal
Since the 18 are captured, the final SEISMIC turn is not adjudicated, tho these were the orders (all 4 would have succeeded):
Aus: Join Mao/Tyn, Split Spa/Wms
Eng: Join Ber/Kie, Split Sil/Bal
Ita: Join ion/rum, Split ser/gre
Rus: Join Ion/Edge, Bar off the board
FINAL STANDINGS:
Warren (England): 18 (+4) SOLO
Steve (Italy): 9 (-2) SURVIVAL
Trout (Austria): 6 (even) SURVIVAL
Mike (Russia): 1 (-1) SURVIVAL
Kevin (Germany): ELIMINATED Fall 09
Martin (France): ELIMINATED Fall 04
Matt (Turkey): CIVIL DISORDER Spring 06
NMR's:
Matt: 2
Kevin: 1
This has been a great game, my first attempt at both Seismic Diplomacy, and using Cyberboard for adjudications. Cyberboard gave me the freedom to move the units around randomly, as well edit the map constantly. Overall tho I much prefer Realpolitik since it does the adjudications for you.
EGS from the surviving 4 are highly recommended, and from our solo victor it's of course REQUIRED.
