Rulers of the far reaches of Europe…

The continent has mobilized and war though this Spring season saw minimal conflict of arms, the foretelling of battles to come were foreshadowed by the clash of soldiers in Galacia and sailors in the Black Sea. Those were our only two bounces in an otherwise conventional spring turn.

I also apologize for the slight delay in adjudications. I was enjoying the inauguration in Washington DC on Tuesday and had a needed day of recovery from the past week of events. I hope to keep pace moving forward, but I warn that I may disappoint on occasion.

I do want to ask you all to send press. If you want to declare war (well, after you've made the move) or beg for peace, warn of impending victory for another or just to rib or taunt your fellow rulers, use the white press opportunity. Given your chosen characters (all but Justin have taken on an ulterior identity), it should be much fun to write a few sentences to share.

WHITE PRESS:

Alaric I, King of Visigoths (Josh):
Alaric I, King of the Visigoths, first ruler of the Balti dynasty. He's most famous for sacking Rome in 410ce. (Don't worry Bruce I won't be taking any ideas from historical events.)

Suleiman the Magnificent (Jeffrey):
I've decided on the persona of Suleiman the Magnificent who doubled the size of the Ottoman Empire (to 2 billion acres) and expanded his lands to the doorsteps of Vienna before being turned away. (The Battle of Vienna gave rise to the croissant, which was a symbolic gesture by Viennese bakers to "take a bite" out of the Ottoman crescent each morning.) Suleiman the Magnificent also expanded culture, law, and learning during his 46 year reign.

Phillip the Good of Burgundy (Michael):
Phillip the Good of Burgundy. Son of John the Fearless and is known for his efforts during the Hundred Years War, in which he vacillated between supporting the French and the English… eventually capturing and sending Joan of Arc to her death. Besides having 3 wives and 18 children (the man must have lived well), he was known for being a patron of the arts, who liked long walks on the beach and starry nights.

Prince Eugene of Savoy (Nathan):
Prince Eugene was a famous Austrian military leader, who was also well know for his skillful diplomacy.

King Romulus of Italy (Bruce):
King Romulus, along with his twin brother, Remus (circa 771-717 bc) were, according to mythology, fathered by the god of war, Mars. Romulus was the first king of Rome, founding it, after slaying his brother, in 753 bc.

Romulus not only created the Roman Legions and the Roman Senate, but also added citizens to his new city by abducting the women of the neighboring Sabine tribes, which resulted in the mixture of the Sabines and Romans into one people. Romulus would become ancient Rome's greatest conqueror, adding large amounts of territory and people to the dominion of Rome.

King Alfred of England (Aidan):
From England my selection is King Alfred, the only British monarch to be known "the Great". Because of his military and diplomatic skills. He did, unfortunately, have an issue with baking cakes.
