First, thank you for waiting. I know it's been awhile since the game officially started, and I promise that the following turns will be quicker, especially if all of you get in your preliminary orders and I don't have to come track you down. Last turn I specifically requested them as an indicator of who would play and who would not. I have a good feeling about the eight of you; please don't let me down. And if I ever start to slack on adjudications by more than a day, give me a nudge! I hope that I won't have any troubles with the conflict in Crimea spreading, but if America gets involved, I have a very unfortunate passport for a resident of Moscow, and I might be unable to run the game properly. Let's cross that bridge when we come to it.

The first phase of the great medieval war comes with bad news for some, not so for others. The most notable event is the assault by France, with Danish support, upon Burgundy, trapped between Eastern and Western Francia. Charlemagne will return! Elsewhere, moves seemed rather tentative--I thought that the Independents at Budapest might be the first to go, but I was wrong. They will linger on for several years, as the powers try to one-up each other rather than worry about harmless roadblocks. But now that France has seen fit to make Burgundy a Mediterranean power, the first individual test of the game will be to see what Burgundy can do to make up for lost time and territory.
