Fall of 1901 closes out a peaceful year in Europe. After a spring of internal political maneuvering in Germany, a new Kaiser takes the reins and stakes his own claim in the frozen North, joining England and Russia.

In the Balkans, however, things are anything but peaceful. There continues to be squabbling in the border regions of Galicia and Rumania, while Turkey wins out in the Black Sea.

The big story in the region is the bold move undertaken by the Italians, sweeping out of their territory to gut Austria, left unaccountably vacant by the Austrian military.
