PREV  Fall 1902 Adjudication:  NEXT

The following is a letter from a were-hamster soldier in Warsaw to his wife in St. Pete:

"The Hamster Ball-Tanks roll implacably westward, leaving wide furrows in the ground. My unit takes point, watching for the two-legged enemy. After the skirmishes in Siliesia in the spring, we expect to see more action soon. We march on, but my thoughts are with you and the pups nestled safely in the wood-shavings back home. We are making a new world for our children. Instead of being forced to pretend to be simple pets like we had to, our children will grow up masters of their world. They will not have to know the shame we endured in the years after the virus. Pray to Mesocricetus Auratus that we will have victory."

The Were-Hamsters appear to have a small strategic advantage on the map, but so far they have exhibited an overwhelming flat-out dominance in the world of public press. Beware, ye nations, lest ye be talked into unwitting submission!

[And on that point, I should probably point out that the last game I GM'd was for the Winter Blitz... John won with a Homeric jump from 10 to 18 centers in one year, as he successfully talked his allies into total negligence... beware his tongue! Then again, it appears that Dan Dzikowicz managed a similar feat in _his_ Blitz game, thus vaulting him over John in the final standings. So, come to think of it, don't trust anyone. It's just safer that way.]

Back to the game... it's a good year to be a Were-Hamster. Sweden and Ankara join the Habitrail. Blurbia (+Con, +Rom, -Gre) and DRE (+Par) also have positive years. But it's a zero-sum world, so somebody must be getting smaller as a result of all of this (though Paris was neutral). The losers? *Not* Nilleidewsia. In spite of loses in Belgium and Sweden, he compensates with gains in Denmark and Munich... The Celts must disband. The Wu Tang, however, pass along their losses to the poor homo sapientans. Sapienta manages an SC swap with Blurbia (Gre/Rom), but there is no recuperating the loss of Vienna. Down 1.

Finally, it sucks to be Zonotrichia. The sparrows lose both Constantinople and Ankara but do find temporary lodgings in Belgium thanks to DRE assistance.

However, before we worry about adjustments, we should do retreats. Due to the American Independence Day holiday, there will be no adjudication tomorrow. Instead, retreats will be due on Thursday and adjustments will be due on Friday. Both at 2:00 p.m. CST.

We have *four* retreats. The auto-retreats are:
Celtic fleet Denmark retreats to Helgoland Bight.
Nilleidewsian fleet Belgium retreats to Picardy.

Either of those can be over-ridden but *will* occur in the absence of orders.

The other two retreats are:
Sapientan army Vienna may retreat to Bohemia (but why would anybody want to?), Galicia, or off the board.
Zonotrichian fleet Ankara may retreat to Armenia, Black Sea, or off the board.
