PREV  Fall 1902 Adjudication:  NEXT

It's been a busy turn, and I want to preface this by saying that Windows 8 and Realpolitik apparently have some sort of feud, wherein the latter simply refused to function yesterday. So if the map appears different than usual, that's because it is. I had to download the RealWorld adjudicator and wrestle with the right compatibility mode before that functioned. The saga continues, but for you the important thing is simply that I can continue to fulfil my responsibilities.

Regardless, plenty has happened on the map this Fall turn, proving yet again that my analyses of the situation are not to be trusted. So much for the Eastern Triple; Turkey and Austria team up against Russia to take Sevastopol at the same time that Russia turns south against Germany in tandem with England. In fact, one of the only stable places on the map is one which looked set for trench warfare! Situations elsewhere force Germany and France to abandon their apparently-hostile positioning in favor of efforts elsewhere. Italy also feels the brunt of the A/T, and with France joining in the fun in Piedmont, we may have the splendid opportunity to see a few rare alliances in action. [cue nature documentary voiceover] Here we see the usually unstable A/T in its natural state; expanding to the sides rather than forward, it pushes out against its neighbors with great ease but not without some degree of paranoia and josteling for positioning.

As we have some new players, I want to take this opportunity to point out something which is not expressly stated in the rules, yet is still not permitted here. Italy ordered two units to move, Venice and Ionian Sea, and gave orders to two more units to support the moving units to hold. Some of you may know this scenario from house rules, where it can be permitted for a unit which is ordered to move but doesn't, to be successfully supported to hold in the event of an attack against it. It's an effective defensive measure, but one which I have never seen used in a competitive match, and will not allow here. A support hold can only be successful if the unit in question actually does hold, or support another unit. Movement voids the support. This is not Italy's fault because no previous mention was made, but the rules are the rules.

Two units are dislodged! I need retreats from England and Italy. The adjustments this year are few; so we can go through this with some haste as well. As last year, a dislodged unit can be disbanded in exchange for another build.

Autumn 1902 retreats are due 2nd August, 20:00 GMT.
Winter 1902 adjustments are due 3rd August, 20:00 GMT.
